This astonishingly inventive title allows young children to discover the inner workings of the human body in a gently humorous, yet wholly accurate way. Bright, original colour illustrations and diagrams display all the major organs of the human body and are accompanied by witty, clear and informative factual text. It contains over fifty flaps, which children can lift to reveal extra detail. Entertaining and authoritative, this is human biology for children at its very best - a book both educational and enjoyable. Follow your food as it travels through your body. Take a deep breath and explore your lungs. Let your mind boggle at what your brain can do. This exciting book, packed with lively illustrations and fascinating flaps, is bursting to reveal your body's amazing secrets.
Katie has been writing non-fiction children's books for almost half her life and loves questioning the world from a child's point of view. She's developed some of Usborne's bestselling series, including the See Inside books and the Lift-the-Flap Questions & Answers series.
I bought this for my 3-year-9-month-old who keeps getting out our human anatomy book because she loves "bones" (maybe I have a budding forensic anthropologist in the house?). Anyway, I thought this would be much more age-appropriate and it is superb. Lots of information in this book, with colourful illustrations and fun tabs with even more cool facts to learn. This gets a 5 star because I learned a fair bit as well.
In See Inside Your Body , Katie Daynes introduces young readers how things work inside the body. The book unpacks topics such as (1) eating and excreting, (2) breathing air, (3) pumping blood, (4) bones and muscles, (5) brain power, (6) the senses and (7) drinking and seeing. The book includes lift-the-flaps and detailed illustrations of the inner body with captions to help readers understand what's happening as their body performs different functions.
I loved this book more than I thought it would. It is a great resource to teach little ones biology (there was lots in here that I didn't even know). I found the illustrations and engaging components to be interactive and engaging.
On the page about eating and discerning, however, I found it problematic and off-putting that the author chose to write "Junkfood contains too much sugar and fat" alongside the illustration of a visibly overweight child eating.
This is a wonderfully illustrated information flap book which uses very simple language to describe the different functions, processes, features involved in different parts of the body. This would be a very useful book to use to introduce any topic which relates to understanding the biology of human body system. However the brief explanations and descriptions may not be so useful if you only intend to focus on one particular function/area of the body. I would say that this book is useful for any age and could be used as a resource for children carrying out independent research during lessons.
This book is a very amusing educational book for children. It teaches different main body parts with excellent illustrations. It has over 50 flaps you can lift up to get more information about a particular part. I bought it for a friend's child, but it was so amusing that I ended going through all of it myself, curiously lifting up each flap one by one! The publisher has other "See inside" books that I have already ordered for gifts, but I will surely read them beforehand!
My 4yo, flipping through this book: “Mama, I wish we could look inside YOUR body.” Me: “Well, but if we opened my skin, I would bleed and maybe die.” 4yo (reassuringly): “You won’t die! We would tape your head back together when we were done.”
'Each time you breath, you suck air into your lungs. All the cells in your body need oxygen from the air to stay alive.'
'Blood picks up oxygen from your lungs then carries it around your body.'
This book is aimed towards children that are 8+ because of the language that the book entails. I would recommend that this book is on display in the class we're doing about their body for their science topic. So the children can freely look at the book at one time.
The book is structured in an interesting way, with the body parts mixed in the contents page rather than working their way from the bottom to the top of the body. I like how the book has lots of flaps that the children can lift up and look further into the body e.g the lung lift the flap and see the veins that run in the lungs. However, having a content page is helpful for children to follow when looking at the book. The book is based around giving children information about their body and how it works so it only gives one view point. As it is not a book based around opinion but rather about facts. The book is written in a mixture of short and compound sentences that are easy for children to read on their own. Mainy on the sentences are accompanied by a picture or diagram so the book is very visual to help children understand the complex language. The text is laid out within the diagram, which again adds to the book being easy to follow. The child would need to have a basic understanding about the body for example the name of organs or know where they are placed in the body. As this book builds on this knowledge and looks at how the different parts operate and work together to keep a person alive. A child would also need to be able to confidently read on their own therefore the book is aimed towards children reading at the age of 8+.
There are many different teaching opportunities with this book. English Create a poster about the the bodies senses PE How our bones and muscles help us move around when exercising Poster about why exercising is good for the body
Science Investigation about digestion Science topic about the body Body pump investigation around blood cell (more or less) colour of blood. Poster of the body parts Art Drawing different types of layers of the body (skin, muscle, bones, organs) Maths In the investigation for science measurements
I wish I had this book when I was in school. The basic functions of the human organs are so clearly articulated along with images. A must for school kids and a good read for adults.
Genre: Informational Grade: Early Primary / Primary This is a creative book that explains the human body in a simple and creative way. I love all of the flaps on each page that show deeper in the body, and all of the facts on each page. I love how the book is hands-on with the flaps. The facts are dispersed all over the pages in smaller phrases that are easy to learn and remember. You can really discover and learn so many things on each page. It also shows in certain body systems what is good and bad for it! Overall, this is an interesting and fun informational book!
This book is useful to introduce children to parts of the human body and how it functions. It covers topics like digestion and the roles of organs like the heart.
The book includes scientific diagrams which are easy for children to understand. Also, it includes facts which are suitable for Key Stage 2 children as the topics relate to the National Curriculum for Science.
I would recommend this book because the scientific information is appropriate for children and will engage them due to the colourful and exciting layout of the pages.
Children in our school LOVE books about the body, and they especially LOVE books about the body with fold-up flaps to see what's inside. This is a durable, detailed exploration of how our bodies work, and while there is a lot of detailed text, both K1s and K2s will crowd around this book in the library, pointing out different surprises to their friends and talking at length about what is happening: "It's germs! It's blood! It's eyes!"
This book is a wonderful resource for a classroom. Filled with pictures, lift tabs and fun explanations, this book would work well in a classroom library for students to learn about the body and its various systems. This book would also be would be a great supplementary resource for a lesson.
My 3-year-old absolutely loves this! She doesn't understand much English, so I had to translate into Swedish as I read it to her. Later, her father did the same thing, but translated it into Italian and I heard her correcting him on how the kidneys work when he tried to simplify it too much. :-)
A great book for kids to get interested in the human body, I can't wait for my daughter to learn to read and understand it but for now she likes the pictures and the flaps.
Excellent choice for teaching young children about the human body. They will be fascinated by the cold out pages that detail everything, especially digestion!
The children in the class love this book. They like opening the flaps and finding out more about their body. They like to identify the pictures and then find the part on their body!

👂🏻🦶🏻👃🏻🧠🦷🦴👀👅👄🦶🏻👂🏻👃🏻🧠🦷🦴👀👅👄 Inhaltsangabe: Entnommen von: usborne.de Was passiert in deinem Gehirn? So erfährst du ganz genau, was sich in deinem Inneren abspielt!
"See Inside Your Body" by Katie Daynes is a work of nonfiction. It explains the human body thoroughly for kids. This book is intended for ages 3-5 and has won a Goodreads Choice Award. I rated this book 5 stars because of its “lift-the-flap” illustrations by Colin King. Due to its informative content, I feel like the interactive illustrations are very fun and engaging. It is well organized, and accessible for young readers. It is also colorful. There aren’t any characters in this story which I think is effective. I would use this book in a classroom setting when I need to refer to biology and health. This would be a good introduction book for those topics.
Kupovala jsem pro dceru. Z Usborne rozkrývaček (Peep inside /Look inside/ See inside) je série "see inside" řada pro pokročilejší malé čtenáře.
a very fun way to get to know the human body and feed the desire to know with a lot of tabs to discover many details about it.
giza gorputza ezagutzeko eta ezagutzeko gogoa elikatzeko modu oso dibertigarria fitxa askorekin horri buruzko xehetasun asko ezagutzeko.
My mom is an Xray tech therefore I grew up learning about the human body and parts. I think children should read this book or see the pictures. It may be able to help them learn their own body and if they are hurt, they can explain it better. The illustrations are good for the children to see and not too much information was shown but just enough for the age group.
This book is the one with the pop-up flaps, and there was one pop-up on the lungs that showed the effects of smoking, where you lift it and it shows how your lungs turn black, and it always stuck to me (to this day) and put me off of smoking forever.
This is a wonderful educational book which breaks down various concepts of the human body into simple, easy-to-understand text. Each page spread discusses one of the body’s systems, by covering the main functions of the relevant organs and walking the reader through a step-by-step process. What makes this book unique are the extra little side notes. The author uses these side notes to connect the concepts to everyday occurrences. For instance the first page, Eating & Excreting, discusses how the body processes food.
Technical: Your windpipe takes air to your lungs.
Side Note: If food goes down your windpipe by mistake, you cough to push it back up. (I use this line of my kids, when they are bouncing up and down at the dinner table.)
The illustrations are colorful, lively, and humorous. There are over 50 flaps which kids will love to look through and find nuggets of information. The book is a hardcover with board book type pages. There are only 15 pages but a kid could easily spend over a half hour pouring through the details.
Since the text and illustrations are quite detailed and the numerous flaps, this book is best suited for a classroom or home library.

Hey, another book about the body! I'm so original.
For such a short book, this is packed with information. While it is not in-depth, it would more than work for kindergarten, maybe even first grade. We're using it with the Joe Kaufman book. My kids love to lift the bazillion flaps and the pictures are very well done and very informative. The text, while short, is accurate and clear. I don't feel this speaks down to the kids like the other Usborne book does.
There is one small section (1/4 of a page) on the ear and it covers significantly more than the Flip-Flap book although it does say "ear bones" for the middle ear. Between this and the Big Body Book I feel like we're hitting it fairly well though.
I think this book would also be great as a review. Each body system has a 2-page spread and the pictures alone would jog the memory. The text would add to that even more.
I'm very happy with this purchase and would recommend it alone for the younger elementary years, and with another book for the older ones.
