Kay Thompson (1909–1998) was an American author, composer, musician, actress and singer. She is best remembered as the creator of the Eloise children's books.

Summary: Eloise is six and the only thing she knows are her own experiences. She is playful and creative as she guides us through her daily life of eating, dressing, traveling, and behaving. She lives in her own little whimsical bubble and tries to find activities to fill her time. Many things she says do not make sense, but for a six year old it all sounds right.

Theme: The theme of this book is independence, and Eloise demonstrates her independence as she travels from New York to Paris and finds other activities to fill her time.

Response: This book is very fun and light hearted, and I can remember reading these when I was younger and thinking how I wanted to be her and have ample time to do whatever I wanted... anything besides school.

Recommend because: Kids can relate to Eloise's adventurous behaviors and some kids who lack parental involvement may be able to understand where Eloise is coming from. Also, it is good fro young readers who are looking for a book series.

How to Behave: "Getting bored is not allowed. Here's what I like to do - make things up." - Eloise

A guide to living well by Eloise. I got this at the Eloise store at the Plaza Hotel in NYC. Apparently sliding down the hotel bannisters is frowned upon, so I had to content myself with this cheeky little book from the gift shop instead.

Pages 18 & 19 were stuck together with something sticky & I did not realize this until I got home!! Managed to gently peel apart the pages with the help of a hand steamer. Somehow it seems perfectly appropriate.

This book is a tiny little book that takes excerpts & illustrations from the original Eloise books (I have them all) and edits them into a little guide. It is absolutely charming and a necessary companion for life long Eloise fans like myself.

What a strange book. I didn't really understand it. The sentences were not full sentences, they seemed cut off, and the writing was just weird and it really annoyed me. The illustrations were great, but the organization of this book was quite terrible. It was split into sections, but each section had just a bunch of words and the order just didn't make sense to me. Would not read again.
