Art in Detail: The Surrealists takes a unique approach to illuminating, in close-up the styles and techniques of the leading figures of Surrealism. Using a series of die-cut windows, this book allows the reader to browse twenty significant masterpieces—including Picasso's Three Dancers, Dali's Persistence of Memory, and Miro's Potato—from a variety of angles and viewpoints.
Each image is first looked at in full alongside the artist's biography and place in the genre's timeline.
Carefully positioned and reversible die-cut windows allow each image to be viewed as a spotlit and magnified detail with authoritative text summarizing the characteristic technique, tone, and colors of the artist’s work.
An innovative and irresistible art giftbook that reveals and revitalizes twenty iconic Surrealist paintings.
I imagine this book to be a perfect gift for someone who ever said wow in front of a surrealist work of art.
This book talks about 20 works of art and I really appreciated the fact that the analysis is clear, yet complex: artist, context and technique are boxes checked every time. However, we are talking about entry level knowledge (enough to enjoy a surrealist painting next time you walk into a museum, not enough to write you BA on the matter).
