For the beginners in fly tying this is an excellent start. Good deal of knowledge passed on in every aspect of tying various flies an the different tools and equipment needed to be successful. The step by step instructions to tying a fly are clear and easy to follow for beginners and above. A great reference book to have handy.

This book helped me tie my first few flies. The pictures and techniques don't miss any steps and are clear which is a step above many other books.

My only complaints are that the book doesn't prop open very easily, so it has to be propped open when you are tying, and it’s redundant with some of John Van Vliet’s other books.
