Rate this book
Consulting oracles used to be difficult and dangerous. You had to make a pilgrimage plagued with hardship, trudging through the desert to a holy place or person. Or kill a calf to read its liver or a bird to read its entrails. Or study for years to read ink dropped in water. Who has the time? Traditional methods just aren't convenient today. What's a divine wonderer to do? Funny you should ask. The Book of Ordinary Oracles, Lon Milo DuQuette shows us how to use items lying around the house--from pocket change to chopsticks--to divine answer to everyday questions. He also tells us how to ask the right question and interpret the answer. The tools he provides will make consulting oracles as easy as reaching into your pocket or cupboard. Can one use channel surfing as an oracle? You bet! DuQuette's anecdotes illustrate various divination techniques. Laugh your way to wisdom while learning new ways to look at the I Ching and how to read tarot cards for yourself.

I really love this book!! The most useful thing this book does, other tha be wildly amusing, is remind you that all you need to know is inside yourself. It offers several anecdoteal stories of sivination that surprisingly woks, though by the "rules" it shouldn't, and shows you how to perform many different types of divination. The book itself has spots on each page, so you can open it at random and it will function as an oracle. Amusing, informative, reassuring, useful, you really can't ask much more from a book!

The Book of Ordinary Oracles presents masterful, original, interesting, funny and truly clever divination experiments which perfectly represent the true intent of oracles and so-called "fortune-telling" practices. This book is playful and astute and deliveries large ideas. The author applies arare gift of humor and invention to a wealth of esoteric knowledge without ever diminishing its value. Not only should you read this book, you should use it.

Fun and light-hearted, with interesting ideas about what it could mean poetically/philosophically to consult an oracle.
