This was an OK book. I really enjoyed the politics and Washington depiction in the book. I felt that the relationship seemed dry-for having Romance in the title, there wasn't much. Their relationship seemed to pick up very quickly after over a year of what seemed like they had barely spoken. As far as the drama of the story, I felt that it was way too unrealistic. Also, I think there could have been a little more meat to the historical past/fate/visions/etc. It seemed a little flat to me with not a lot of explanation.
I did like the couple of TJ and Jack, though. They were a perfect match of opposites.

I just can't take it any longer

I haven't had such a hard time reading a book since I can't remember when. The story was boring the characters were boring. I don't know if I've ever not finished a book. But this one is about 1/2 done. I just can't bring myself to read anymore.

This is a political romantic thriller that involves reincarnation. That's a lot and not necessarily a problem for me, but the issue that was the whole thing was so dull and contrived. I also realize that this book was published in 2012, but it's 2024 and the whole "Republicans and Democrats can work together and find common ground if they try!" line just doesn't work right now.

Yes, please. More like this! Ms Clark wrote an excellent story here; we all know who the psycho prez is. Great writing and topic; perfect theme for what we're going through.
My first story from this author and wouldn't mind reading more.

The first part of this short novel is no less than exquisite.
For once the constant banter between the two leads is not only meaningful and useful to let us know them: it is also quite amusing.

I was less convinced of both the supernatural element and the political mystery element that are introduced gradually.
The supernatural element obviously conflicts with my personal ideas about life and purpose but it is not just that: I feel it is not sufficiently developed to make it really meaningful to the plot. The final confrontation with the president could take place without it.

The political intrigue was a little underdeveloped. Of course to develop it further Ms Clark would have needed to deliver a fully different novel where the romance was more on the side than it is here. My idea would have been to downplay it further, to simplify it more, to make for a rush of political confusion over the span of two days or so.
I was also a bit perplexed by the portrayal of US politicians. It is not that I know any of them personally but I would expect them to be even sleazier and shadier than they are here. And reference to the fact that US politics is essentially controlled by lobbies and corporations should have been made even more blatant (because it is a fact acknowledged even by conservative media such as the Economist).
By the way I was amused by the fact that the out of the closet gay senator is a Republican and the widowed one a Democrat.

While the leads are delightful and the side characters well rounded I feel they could have been shaped further; the newfound love between the two better paced.

The author chooses not to portray any actual sex and I did not miss it: the romance is perfectly complete even without it.

This book could perhaps have been better but it is an entertaining read, easy but not silly. I am looking forward to other efforts by this author.

I'm not a huge fan of political drama especially when it's another country's political drama. I didn't expect that from the synopsis and critics I read, I read it until the end though because I liked the two main characters. I would have liked more romance and to me this isn't a romantic read at all; I could believe the friendship between Tom and Jack though and they really didn't feel to me more than friends even though they are in the novella. I wish this would have been less politics and more romance; I don't feel I know enough about the United States politics to judge if this was a good or bad political drama... I will leave that judging to someone a little more savvy on this subject.

Okay story about two politicians in love. One is the reincarnation of Thomas Jefferson, the other of John Adams. Together they bully some closeted politicians into endorsing gay marriage by means of blackmail.

I found the beginning very confusingly written, and there was no development to the relationship such that I cared if they got together or not. A fast read, and some of the political intrigue was interesting, but overall kind of meh.

This is a nice story of two friends, who both happen to be U.S. Senators. Their growing love and concern for each other, with a (sort of) mystery also.

The author showed what actually happens in the government, or what I believe happens.

There is a slight metaphysical aspect to the story that actually enhances the plot.

There is no actual sex in the book, but you know it has happened.

I enjoyed this book very much. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I don't usually read political books and didn't really realize this was one until I started it and by then my OCD wouldn't let me stop. The bright side is that besides all the political crap I actually liked the story and characters. My only complaint is: what's the story behind the otter?!?!? Come on! You can't leave an inside joke hanging like that...

I enjoyed very much reading it, but there were few niggles. For ex. the hint of paranormal was ok, but the whole became a bit too unbelievable.
