The third volume of the author's memoirs relates the events of her later life -- the deaths of her husband and daughter, love affairs, her bitter second marriage and divorce, and her travels.
Who can blame Kate Simon for being a little tetchy, grandiose and petty in this her third of three memoirs: she was diagnosed with cancer right before she starting writing it. The breeziness and generosity of spirit that made the first two installments so exhilarating to read is gone here, as she settles scores and sets the record straight on episodes from the near and distant past, once and for all. The death of her only child in her early twenties and two failed marriages also contribute to the tone. But despite the distastefulness of the atmosphere, her life is still interesting enough to merit a read; also, god knows we may all succumb to tetchiness, grandiosity and pettiness too, so maybe can't hold that against Kate Simon.
Intriguing and inspiring. A woman who moved forward like a steamroller through a life that opened to her a world of travel and enviable experiences. Now reading her earlier works and remain inspired by this strong and talented woman.
