Colt's perfect life crumbles when his girlfriend breaks up with him and looming academic ineligibility threatens his baseball career. For a guy who gets by on his good looks and talent with a bat, Colt knows that he could be facing his toughest challenge ever. Just as she did in her acclaimed novel Damage, author A. M. Jenkins strikes to the heart of an outwardly confident teenager to expose surprising sensitivity, uncertainty, and humor within. o Jenkins successfully tackles such common young adult themes as peer pressure and self esteem by addressing them through an inquisitive and likeable character to whom teens will easily relate. o Out Of Order will resonate with girls and boys, reluctant and avid readers. Ages 12 +

I'm not a big fan of reading but this book is a very good read and has amazing detail and keeps you interested while reading it. In the story the main character lives everyday fantasizing about baseball. His name is Colt and he is a sophomore in high school, and he is just about to start driving. So this character is very similar to me except for one thing. Colt hates school, he cant stand it. The class he really hates being in is biology. Throughout the story you are in the mind of Colt. There is a girl in his class that he calls greenland because she has green hair and she is smart but he isn't and she knows that. They argue over something just about everyday in class. Colt has a girlfriend named Stephanie and she is smart and just about everything that he has done in school is help from her. He says that the only reason he is in school is to see Stephanie and be eligible so he can play baseball. The conflict is that colts life is slowly going down hill. His girlfriend Stephanie is breaking up with him for another guy and it just turns out that that guy is pretty good at baseball. I can see myself being like Colt in some aspects but not all of them. One of my favorite parts about reading this book is how the author describes in the story. He shows you the story instead of just telling it like in other books. The author of this book is A.M Jenkins and once I finished this book I went to the library and desperately looked for a book that he had published and lucky enough I found one For once i am actually excited to read a book. I never thought that I would say/type those words so thank you A.M Jenkins
In this 256-page realistic fiction novel, Colt Trammel is the most popular kid in his grade. He is great at baseball, but that is pretty much it. He struggles in school and when his girlfriend breaks up with him his life begins to spiral out of control. His grades are suffering, and they threaten his baseball career.
I really liked this book, partially because I share Colt's love for baseball. The only part I didn't like about the book was the ending because it was hard to understand. Other than that, the book was well-written and interesting, although the it did get a bit slow at parts.
This book was about a teenage boy that loved baseball but was struggling with his life at home and school. Girls can be a big distraction to someone who wants to succeed and focus on something else. This made me feel like a teenager being able to read it and I was able to relate this book to my life. A lot of people could relate it because lots of people play sports or have girlfriends and boyfriends. Colt (the main character) will be struggling to do what he wants but hopefully it will play out for him.
This is a great book to read. It is very easy to follow and it is not cryptic or confusing how other books tend to be. The only reason I would not rate it a five out of five is that it seemed to lack events. Most of the book was very focussed in one area, but what helps to maintain a four out of five stars is the changes the character goes through and the turning points. Those turning points allow you to think critically about how exactly you think the character has changed and why. This is a good book for people who like to determine whether the ending ended positively or negatively.
Some what a decent book, but the author left many things unanswered as well as letting the characters be happy in their own way, the author never really explained, showed, or clarify the theme of the story.
3.5 This story is pretty good, but ended too quickly, without any real resolution which bothered me. Yes, Colt did grow up some and did learn some, but I wanted to witness more of the after, how he actually changed in his every day dealings with everyone. This needed to be a few chapters longer, imo. Colt isn't a very likeable character throughout most of the book. He is very full of himself, thinking he's at the top of the heap in his high school hierarchy and looking down on everyone else. He pushed people away with his attitude before they have a chance to push him away or find out that, in his opinion, he isn't very bright. He cares only about baseball and figuring out a way to get his on-again/off-again girlfriend into having sex with him. She confuses him and he's constantly trying to be what she wants, never measuring up and feeling bad about himself because of it. Even though Colt isn't a very nice character, he's written in such a way that he's still a sympathetic character. You'll have to read the book to see what I mean. I wanted someone to take the time to get past his attitude and figure out why he has such trouble learning. It seemed that maybe he had dyslexia or some other learning disability and I wanted one of his teachers to care enough about him to notice that he actually had problems with language skills. All in all, a good read, worth the time.
Oh, this is a teenage boy's thinking so there is swearing, etc.
OUT OF ORDER Colt Trammel is the main character. He is a super cool jock, playing varsity as a sophomore. He is very popular, has a smart beautiful girlfriend, and plenty of money. However, he is full of self-loathing and self-doubt that the rest of his school could never imagine. In fact, he comes off as an over-confident jerk, a persona he has worked at for years.
Colt, a teenager who's perfect life crumbles when his girlfriend breaks up with him. He was very upset with the break up, therefore, his grades dropped and academic ineligibility threatened his baseball career. For a guy who gets by on his good looks and baseball talent, Colt knows that he may be facing his toughest challenge ever. I recommend this book for ages 12 and up. This book shows that you need to keep your grades up and try to stay focused no matter what is happening. It also shows that you if you don't keep your grades up you can't play sports.

Chlo helps him study and when he gets his grades back up ,he can finally play baseball again if he doesn't still fail. When Grace breaks up with him because of Silver went to the movies with him, he finally starts to get his grades back up. Is it too late? Read the book Out of Order by A.M Jenkins to find out , it is a great book!
Colt Trammell is a high school baseball player who is convinced that he cannot succeed in school. When his mom says he can't play baseball until his grades improve, Colt's first instinct is to lie, cheat, and steal his way to the grades he needs. Colt quickly realizes this won't work and hires the strange, new girl Corinne as his tutor. While this is going on, Colt is also trying to win back his recent ex-girlfriend and navigating the complex high school social scene. In this engaging, first-person narrative, perfect for reluctant readers, Colt's tough facade makes him unsympathetic at first, but as his vulnerability becomes apparent, readers will be rooting for his eventual success.
Special thanks to Jayne and Victoria who helped me craft this in class!
This Book In My opinion was quite Amazing! It captures really what todays teenagers go through. This book is about teenager Named Colt Tremmel and His high school troubles. Colt Is a Trouble Making basball Player Who has a Girly Girl Of A Girlfreind. This Girl Named "chlorophyll" comes into the book as Colts "enemy" But over the course of the book "Chlorophyll" (from her green hair) starts to become one of Colt's Best Freinds. She Helps him through his breakups and his difficult decision making situations. Honestly, This book was great it really captured what high school students really experience and how some actually ACT! Great Book Overall!! 4 1/2 Stars!
Cleverly written, you love the character even though he does bad things sometimes. You feel his pain. Excellent use of voice. I love that they never mention that he may in fact have dyslexia, which to me explained the name out of order. i read it in literally 3 hours straight. I couldn't put it down. A boy so in love with someone who was so bad for him. He put her on a pedastool i personally think she was undeserving of. Definitely should read this, if you have ever been in a bad relationship, a lot to relate to.
Colt is only good as baseball and lying. He isn't intellectual like his girlfriend Grace. The only way he can keep her is if pretends to be smart and ignores that fact that he constantly is thinking about sex. When he meets Corinne a weird green haired girl, he doesn't realize that this new friend will help him grow up, but not only that, pass English. I though this book was to sexual. I felt uncomfortable reading it and it was difficult to see what the real theme was. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
I have no idea how I found out about this book, but I saw it listed on my "to-read" shelf and decided to read it. I'm really glad that I did because it is truly the kind of book that I enjoy. It has amazing use of voice and a narrator who comes across as a total jerk, but who has more depth and insecurities than people might suspect. I loved getting insight into this guy who was very much the opposite of smart and worked hard to hide this fact.
Out of Order is about a not so smart teenager that is very athletic. He is struggling in all of his classes and he ends up getting threatened but his mom to get good grades or he can't play baseball. I connect with him because this is actually me. This is exactly what is happening to me with math. This has a really confusing ending. It feels like it lacks a few chapters at the end. the detail is pretty good but then it just gets cut short.
Apparently, I read this one just a hair over 8 years ago. I don't remember it at all. I can say that I don't find the GoodReads blurb encouraging: It starts in first person, changes to second person, then changes again to third person. Perhaps this explains why I gave the book two stars, then promptly forgot about it....
I take a good look at myself in the mirror while i'm washing my hands. Hair looks good, like always. Face looks okay, not upset, not mad. It's a little pale, maybe, but nothing that advertises the whole story: this is a guy whose life has cracked open beneath his feet.
I am officially a fan of Jenkins. Her characters always connect with me. This one included. Cole is one you want to hate but just can't. He's funny, witty, and a total jerk. He is overly confident but he is in constant battle with his inner-self that is far from confident. THe book is short and sweet but for mature readers only!
Colt Trammel has learning disabilities in school but he is an awesome baseball player and that where he expects his future lies. He likes life organized by rules so that the order is maintained – but then his girl friend dumps him and he is helped by someone who is so far outside the accepted order that he has to re-evaluate who he is, where he is going, and how he will get there.
Colt Trammel is the main character.
A popular jock picks on people, moons after his smart girlfriend, tries to hide his fear over being “stupid,” tries to get laid, and is basically a high school asshole seen from the inside. Also develops beginnings of friendship with alternagirl. Pretty good.
This book was very interesting because it isnt your average girl story. Its viewing the teenage males perspective other than just the heartbroken teenage girl. It was nice for once to see what went on threw the guys eyes. I really enjoyed reading this book.
It was a light entertaining read, but I agree with the others who said the book ended suddenly. The author seemed to have wanted a happy open-ended story, but it just came off as abrupt. Which is a shame because I would have liked to keep reading.
