This book covers all aspects of yoga practice including postures, breathing, relaxation, meditation, lifestyle and fundamental philosophy. Provides two illustrated posture sequences and has 420 photographs.
Excellent primer for becoming familiar with the variety of postures in Hatha yoga. Also covers breath meditation and daily practice ideas. Illustrations are excellent. A DVD is available demonstrating all the postures in this book, which is also excellent. A reference that I will always have in my library.
This is a book always to refer to, it is not one that you ever truly put away on the shelf to ignore. But I am marking it done for now....it is excellent and has helped me a great deal.
Amazing and extremely useful for my Yoga Teacher Training. Continuing to use daily. Also great for people who are new to yoga and would like to understand what yoga really is.
This is still one of my favorite yoga primers. As I get older (over 45) I find that my recovery becomes harder and harder. Workouts are rougher on my joints and connective tissues. Yoga becomes almost an essential part of my routine. This book has proven to be just about one of my favorites on the topic
I have not read this book cover to cover (yet) but I have bounced around & read it in sections. I reference it often during my at-home-yoga-practice. The title summarizes its contents: “Mastering the Basics”. There are many simple & clear photos to go along with the written content. The sequences are broken down & include instruction on when to inhale & when to exhale with each movement. I needed that! I appreciate the slower pace of learning yoga from a book vs. watching a video. This book does an amazing job with the basics.
