Operation Terror

Probably best known for the novel that the Disney movie That Darn Cat , starring Hayley Mills, was based upon.
Gordon Gordon studied with Mildred Nixon at the University of Arizona and married her in 1932. After graduation, Gordon got a job on the editorial board of the daily newspaper Tucson Citizen. In 1935 he moved to the editorial office of the film company 20th Century Fox and remained there until 1942. From there he was hired by the Homeland Security Agency and Gordon worked in counterintelligence until the end of the war.
Mildred Nixon had studied pedagogy and worked as a teacher for some time after her studies. After her marriage, she began working for the United Press news agency. She also served as editor of Arizona Highways magazine for a time .
Gordon and Mildred Gordon's first literary attempts date back to their student days. After the first successful publications, their works appeared almost exclusively as a collaborative effort.
After Mildred Gordon died in 1979, Gordon Gordon remarried on March 16, 1980, to Mary Dorr.

Read this book and you will remember it always.
A brilliant robber decides to extort a beautiful
bank teller BEFORE he ever enters her bank.
If the teller does not hand him over a large sum,
the robber
will kill her and her younger sister. He has been
watching them for weeks. He and
his gang can kill them at any time.
The teller contacts the book's hero, FBI John
Ripley. Together, they
must out-think the robber, a college graduate, son
of a doctor and a well-read frequenter of libraries.
To play fair, I should note that one of the writers,
Gordon, now deceased, was a friend of mine. His
wife, Mildred, was the other half of the team and had
died before I met Gordon.
It was the expert storytelling that made
me seek out Gordon in the first place. In real life,
Gordon was an FBI agent turned writer. He
influenced me in more than just my reading.
I joined the Manhattan District Attorney's office
as an Investigator/Police Officer and also the Los
Angeles Police Department for a full and exciting
career.
Good writers do influence us readers.
The pace never lets up in this book. There is not
one false note.
The book sales did so well that it became a
smash hit film with Glenn Ford and Lee Remick.
But read the book first. You will enjoy both
the film and book. Because we are readers, yes?
So, we should read this fine book.

This is the source of the great Blake Edwards's film Experiment in Terror. The Gordons also wrote the screenplay.
