My son picked this out at the Book Fair when he was in kindergarten. I read this to him every night for years. I just went down memory lane reading it tonight (my son is a teen now lol).
A great book for kids on what the SEALs are about and what they do.

This year I have more students who want to join the military then every before. Because of this, I am trying to bulk up my nonfiction books that have to do with the military to A) Interest them & B) Teach them about what their dreams entail. This book will definitely fit both of my goals.

Being a U.S. SEAL is not something to just mention lightly. They are some of the most respected members of our military and I personally had no idea how much went into becoming one. This book definitely lays out all aspects of becoming, being, and living as a SEAL so students who are interested in doing so will know exactly what they need to do to reach their goal. It is also done in a very structured way with chapters dealing with each aspect and many photographs and facts to back up the chapters. It also has many other text features including maps and a glossary to assist the reader. This is definitely an inside look at being a SEAL and I can see why my students find this nonfiction book fascinating.

This book is about almost everything you have to do to become a Navy SEAL. They are the elite. Best of the best. This book tells you about the training you have to go through to be a SEAL, some missions SEALs have gone on in the past, it tells you about their equipment, and much more stuff. I have always thought it would be awesome to be a Navy SEAL, but in the book, it said that only men could be SEALs. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!! The naval Academy instead. Or the Coast Guard. I can't figure out who this book is by, because it doesn't say. There are illustrations of the SEALs in action, and in training. This book spits out information. The genre is content specific, because there is only one topic, but many topics under that one big umbrella. There are facts about the SEALs; there is a big topic with a bunch of smaller topics, but still about the SEALs; There are captions that show what the pictures mean.

This book is very interesting because it give you the SEAL code at the end of the book so you can be a Navy SEAL every day. 1. Loyalty to Country, Team, and teammate 2. Serve with Honor and Integrity On and Off the battlefield. 3. Ready to Lead Follow, Never Quit. That's just 3 out of 6.

I would recomend this book to people who enjoy to read about recent history and would like to one day be in special forces.

This is a good introductory book about the Navy Seals. It contained information that I as a Social Studies teacher did not know. Naturally a book like this has to be used with care because it can be seen as romanticizing a profession that is dangerous. The book made me want to study the Seals more and read more age appropriate books on the topic.
