The author is well respected for how he explains scientific issues in clear and a ready language that any parent can understand and relate to. "Brain What it is, How it works and How you can change it" provides an excellent introduction to The Brain Environment Complex Theory. In general, the book explains, with clear illustrations, how the brain is brought into formation through its developing interaction with the environment. To-date, our understanding of how intelligence comes to be is seen to derive through a personal genetic code that develops through a limited environment. This book opens up a clear understanding to how expansive the environment in brain development really is, which brings into question our understanding of a limited genetic model. Once we understand how the mind can play a decisive role in the development and so reconstruction of the brain, we are led to see brain learning as open ended.
With 40 years dedicated to how the operations of the brain are shaped through the mind’s perspective of the environment, the author brings forth a new understanding to how we can raise the intelligence of the child for school and that of the adult as a citizen worker. This book should be mandatory reading for psychologists, educators at every level and all parents, since it brings serious interest to how we can better prepare the intelligence of the child of today for the future competition that will await them in their world dominated by artificial intelligence. "These books are never dull, not even for a moment. Beautifully written! Roy has written in such a way that anyone can pick up his books and understand where he is coming from and where he is going in his thoughts, that offer profound insight into what is wrong with school, and why we need to change the ways we are preparing our children for the world they will live in.I would recommend that ALL educators read his books, especially “Teacher, Parent, Child,” as they will definitely be refreshed and challenged to re-think their position as teachers in these challenging times."
