He Was Totally Outrageous! One minute, the sexy-as sin cop was rescuing Emily Cooper from drunken hoodlums. five minutes later he was tearing his clothes off in front of a group of voracious women. What kind of man was he-and why couldn't Emily keep her hands off him?
She was totally irresistable! Judd Sanders couldn't believe it when beautiful, wide-eyed Emily started poking her gorgeous little nose into his dealings on the lower east side. She was obviously a menace to herself-and his libido. Worse, she'd blow his cover. For little Emily know that Judd really was a cop-whose cover left him a little too "uncovered" for his liking...

This came as close to a DNF as any I've read in the last umpteen years. I borrowed this from the virtual library by accident - I wanted to read the first in the Love Undercover series as I have had a later book in the series on my shelf for ages. Somehow this is what I got when I clicked "borrow". Initially I thought this was an alternate title for Run the Risk, but I was able to borrow that one as well and although there are striking parallels, this is not the same book. I can't say I loved that one either, but I really struggled with this one, especially at first. The characters felt like cardboard cut-outs, and I didn't like the patterns they were cut out from. The other book, also dealing with an undercover cop and a woman connected to the crime he's investigating, was only different in that the rich - poor was reversed - in the first it's the prim and proper woman who is from a wealthy family (although she has a naughty past) while the cop is from a broken family, whereas in the second the woman (and her brother who is instrumental in both books) has grown up in a trailer park, neglected by drunken parents, and it's the cop who actually comes from money. There are other similarities, but I think that's enough for a book I really didn't care for. The two books, according to fantasticfiction, came out five years apart, and there were significant improvements between the two, in my opinion. I've read others by this author which I thought were far better.
Absolutely awful story line. I couldn't even get halfway through it. Awful premise and awful male protagonist. So there's a rich woman dressed as a homeless person and attracting drunkard men in the parking lot, and this guy dressed up as a cop comes out to divert the men's attention from her. He plays the role of a "male stripper" in the nearby bar afterwards. Turns out that the woman was trying to find out who sold a gun to her 16-year-old brother. Pretty stupid premise. Then this cop-dressed stripper but, actually, undercover cop decides to, reluctantly, include her in the case. However, he treats her like crap. He calls her "flypaper" after he's kissed and rejected her, and the same time, he acts like she's his property when they haven't even known each other but for a couple of days and haven't even had sex yet. So is he some kind of stalker? So what if he's good looking; his attitude as a potential lover totally stinks. I couldn't take it anymore. Any man who claims a woman as "his" but isn't willing to go very far with her is just a jerk.
I already read the manga version. The heroine's description in the book is different from the manga. When does the story take place? The hero uses a pay phone and doesn't have a cell phone. The heroine's camera isn't digital.
This story is 20 years old and the only thing that stands out is that the characters don't have cell phones, but Judd and Em didn't need them. They are from different sides of the track, but he quickly falls for his prim beauty and they work hand in hand to catch an illegal gun salesman. Even after Em finds out he's an under cover detective, she continues to fall in love with him. So much so that she secretly goes behind his back to save his hide and nearly screws up capturing the bad guy.
Blaming himself for nearly getting her killed, Em has to come out of her shell to prove to Judd, he is the man for her. I absolutely loved Judd and Em because they were so mismatched!
Outrageous is a 5. Originally published in March 1997 by Harlequin. I still felt connected to the characters, & that's with all that has changed in the past 19yrs. Then you have 2 heroic main characters that are theoretically from opposite backgrounds coming together. The undercover cop that had a ruff childhood with the practically disowned wealthy Good Samaritan. Sometimes I'd say that's a classic love story. The only thing that I personally cannot get my head around is love at first sight, even though there are countless real life stories of successful encounters. I still read LAFS stories anyway!
Kkkkk....
