This is a great biography of Colonel Sanders. He was completely determined to be a success, no matter what, and he did it. But, wow, what a strange journey.

I suppose I will start by saying I feel as though I’ve spent time with the Colonel. The book covered at a high level a real look at who he was and the principles which governed his life and ultimate success he achieved. For me, this book also touches on a region of the country I am familiar with giving me a unique perspective of the impoverished area and lack of early formal education the Colonel had. It brings the question to my mind is this American dream still available to anyone who will roll up the sleeves and persevere till the dream is fulfilled? Certainly the Colonel achieved his success in a vastly different time in the country. Although the principles of success will never change for any endeavor. As I read through the life of the Colonel I was surprised at the amount of material dedicated to the person of John Y. Brown. I questioned the authors intent and only realized as the story unfolded how much of an intricate individual Brown was in who the Colonel became. In my opinion I may not have known who the Colonel was if Browns plan to market the Colonel as the face of the franchise had not been implemented. Would I recommend this book? Absolutely. It offers the historical detail of one of the worlds most popular fast food chains as well as a look into a slower time and way of life in a Southern portion of the country that may never be equaled. On top of this it introduces a person of Americana persuasion and character that only come around once in a lifetime.

A real American struggle and success story. The Colonel's worst enemy was often himself. Books about Americans like the Colonel are to my mind every bit as important as bios on our founding fathers, great war heroes, etc. This story would make a great streaming limited series. Wish I had the time to write it.

The Story of Harland David (Colonel) Sanders. It will help you to understand the phrase, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!"
