Written and illustrated in a style that appeals at once to academic botanists and armchair arborphiles alike, Michigan Trees gives readers everything they need to know for identifying trees in the Great Lakes state. Included with each description are fascinating notes and asides (for example, this tidbit on the jack "Parklike or savanna stands in north-central Michigan are prime habitat for the rare Kirtland's warbler that breeds nowhere else in the world."). Also includes a tree key and identification section illustrated with elegantly simple line drawings that reveal the tiny, signature details that make each tree unique.Burton V. Excellent book. I read a bit about each tree, but have already turned back to it as a reference many times!

A very thorough guide onto the tree's of "Michigan", I live in New Jersey and most of the dominant tree species here overlap with those commonly found in Michigan, so this book is still very much applicable to the midwest and northeast. My only complaint is that there are no photographs or drawings of bark, although bark is something that can vary from the individual organism to organism a lot. The book descriptions are spot on.

Best plant book I've come across. So thorough. It's hard to put down. The fact that I've never been to Michigan was of surprisingly little importance.
