Being a professional basketball player affords Chance the opportunity to partake in all three things to his heart’s content.
He doesn’t do relationships, commitment or even two night stands.
Kirbie Miller doesn’t consider herself a party girl. She likes to have fun as much as the next person, but hard partying is for later. Right now is for securing her post undergraduate future. She’s focused and dedicated - until one fateful night with Chance Parker derails her plans and turns her life upside down.
When two lines show up on a pregnancy test, can a “good time” guy and a goal-driven woman find a middle ground?
I know you lying 😒 I am displeased with this ending. How did this story end without telling me who won the contest after making it a big deal🙄 Then no mention of their growth was odd to me. Clearly they were in love, but this lacked closure and needed about 30 more pages to close the loops...the parents? What is their living situation? Also the switching from all the persons...first, second, and third is a pet peeve for me. Please pick a side 😩
Aside from all that I did like the storyline and the characters. Chance was a hit em and quit em type dude. After a rough childhood he didn't trust many people. He definitely kept women at arms length. Until he and Kirbie accidentally ended up in a situation. Chance low-key got on my nerves with how he was moving when it was clear both of them felt some type of way about each other. I loved the conflict that was Cameron. He was ready to risk it all for Kirbie and he was doing his best to apply the pressure. He definitely gave Chance some perspective.
3.5 stars and I would still read more books by this author who is ntm. Both books in the series were solid, but this one needed to close loops.
My my my goodness, I adored Chance and Kirbie. Their story was fun, loving, and overall very entertaining. The love parts and the sports side coincided nicely. You should read this one...
I wanted to really like this book but just didn’t. It wasn’t terrible by any means. I just found it very repetitive and Chance annoying.
I didn’t like that Chance constantly crossed and pushed Kirbie’s boundaries and had misogynistic/double-standard views. Cross called him out on the latter, but it wasn’t enough for me.
I really wanted Kirbie to give Cameron a shot. He was very straight up with her and seemed to really like her. He also respected her boundaries. (!)
Speaking of Kirbie, I found her even more likable (I already liked her in the first book), and I enjoyed reading about the progression of her and Genesis’s friendship. I admired how straightforward Kirbie was about her feelings on things, but I hated that she folded almost every time Chance wanted to cross the line she made. I was literally yelling, “stand up!” at her.
I get it. Chance was her “fantasy fuck” and was good in bed and admittedly, I probably would’ve folded 1 or 2 times, but girl. 🗣️this dude doesn’t deserve you.
Anyway, the epilogue was cute or whatever lol, and I liked the updates we got on Genesis and Cross’s relationship throughout the book
Hmmm 🧐. …I wanted throughly enjoy the second installment of this series “By Chance (Basketball Baes - Book 2)”. Unfortunately though, I’m conflicted by the ambiguity of minor/secondary characters and the interactions actions & reactions of others. Not in any particular order, but what was the objective to mentioning RJ and the implication he’s involved with a player if there’s no correlation to Kirbie’s termination and or law suit?; Why was there no repercussions towards Chance violating a moral Bison’s clause?;Why wasn’t Mama Jackie/Aunt True/Kirbie’s nameless sisters (weird) or Mr & Mrs Miller present after she gave birth?; What was the purpose of Chance & Kirbie having nursery decor competition, with no mention of the results?; How did Chance & Kirbie’s situationship evolve into a romance? … yup, I’m conflicted & confused by this abrupt HEA.
So where do we start… I started reading this one immediately after the first book earlier today in the series which was Genesis and Cross. This one started off with a bang. It was pretty good. It also had some depth to the story, but I do have a few quirks about it. For me, I feel like there were a few pieces that were essential to the story that wasn’t answered, but that could be how the author intended for it to be and for the reader to draw their own conclusion.
1. Did Chance ever tell Kirbie his full story as in everything that happened to him in childhood. Based on some of the writing, it seemed as if there was some more underlying occurrences that happened in his life while staying with family members that wasn’t an addressed but I could be reaching.
2. Did Kirbie‘s mom ever apologize to her and how she acted when it was revealed that Kirbie was pregnant? How did the relationship follow up from there?
I only gave this one 4 stars because I wish we would’ve had more time to see them interacting as an official couple rather than just the last chapter & the epilogue. For it to be my second read by the author it was still good and had good content. I just wish it had a little bit more, but I’m not an author and I can’t take away from their creative process.
By Chance Tracy Gray ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oops baby Unexpected Falling in Love Chance and Kirbie
These two made me smile I wanted them to win. Kirbie was a good, practical, stable, young woman marching to the beat of her own drum. Chance (NBA player) was just looking for a good time.
An OOPS baby sent both of their lives into a tail spin. But what these two did no know, is that they had just what the other one needed, desperately.
The dialogue was real, the sex was combustible( I would have like to see more on the page), and it gave me a HEA. I would have loved to see the love really unfold. I would have loved to see more of her family dynamics. This was a delightful read.
Accidental pregnancy isn’t usually a favorite trope of mine, but the sports romance element pulled me in—and I’m glad it did.
Chance was… a lot. Selfish af and very much a work in progress, though he did become more tolerable as the story went on. When he showed up, he really showed up.
Kirbie was the standout for me. She was ambitious, vulnerable, about her business, and honestly one of my favorite FMCs I’ve read in a while.
The only thing keeping this from being a 5-star read was the lack of closure. It felt unfinished, like a chapter was missing. Still, I’d recommend it—and I’d read it again.
Chance had some deep childhood trauma and I applaud him for seeking help rather than becoming a statistic. I was glad when his therapist helped him work through understanding his feelings he had for Kirbie because she was in love with him and she told the type of dater she was from the beginning. I’m glad that they got on the same page eventually and that Chance got the little princess that he wanted. I felt some type of way that I didn’t get to read who won the room contest nor Chayse wasn’t described as to her looks, eyes, skin color, height, nor size…just nothing.
I enjoyed their story. Both Kirbie and Chance had issues they had to deal with in order to be together. Kirbie being pregnant just sped things up. I appreciate that chance was in therapy because he knew he had to work on his personal issues. I didn’t care for Kirbie’s mom. I don’t believe her outburst was due to her wanting more for her daughter. She seemed off kilter even jealous. But idk 🤷🏽♀️. Good series I wonder if there are more stories.
There were definitely moments that were more interesting than others. Had this been a tad bit longer, to take the time to flush out story. Give more context to brushed over info, it would’ve been much better. For example: what happened between the FMC and her mother after that tense dinner? It was discussed for a few paragraphs and then nothing…
Wonderful journey with personal growth and development for Chance and Kirbie as individuals, friends, lovers, and parents. I really liked the main characters. They were well written and full. The evolution of Chance and Kirbie as a couple was engaging and very realistic. Their friendship was one of genuine respect and care. Again the auxiliary characters were very good and rich. This is a great read 📚 👏🏾 ❣️
4.5 🌟 It honestly would’ve been fine stars had it given me more.
I needed to know more about Kirby’s family, why she had a strained relationship with her mom and also I would’ve liked to see how her relationship with her sisters were. Chance was a jerk as a cover up but he was a real sweetheart.
I loved their story. I wish I had more, something else to make it longer and like how they ended more than just dating but did they get married, have more kids. I want to see a future.
This book had me from beginning to end and I read it in a day! Loved the characters, the quick witted dialog and the chemistry. My only regret is I read book 2 in this series before reading book 1 but if it as good as this one I won't be disappointed. Looking forward to reading it and other work by this author!
My second time reading a book by this author, and I must say I have no regrets. I love this story of two people that did not know they were capable of love. Different upbringing, goals to achieve for different reasons, but took a chance. Very good book, I highly recommend this book. Great conversation for a book club.
This was a little better, but again, it felt like something was missing, why not add some hmph to the story by digging deeper into the family issues especially Kirby. Chance was an interesting character that should have been dug deeper into. Had potential but missed the mark.
I wasn’t sure how I was gonna like this one but of the three basketball baes I’ve read so far this one is my favorite. Chance was something else I loved how the author wrote in childhood trauma and how me especially black,en deal or don’t deal with it. I wish more books brought this subject to light even if it’s in a love story. I’m definitely reading the next one.
I wasn’t sure if Chance and Kirbie would ever be on the same page. It was clear that she was a catch from the beginning but was Chance going to throw out the player card? That was the question. Great read 🏀💙
Oh my‼️ So not what I expected. I really enjoyed this unconventional love story. If you’re looking to read a really good love story this is it. No spoilers. Just know it is real good. Short but everything came into the story within the pages.
Sweet story, they may not have started in a conventional relationship, but their story ended up being so sweet. Chance just wanted a love of his own, he was really a sweetheart! Enjoyed the read.
I was so happy for book 2. I loved book 1 with Genesis and Christian. This was a quick read, read it in a day. Kind of sad to see it end so quick, but loved the story of Chance and Kirby. Love black love
I thought Part 1 was something my oh my part 2, is just as good. I'm so glad Chance took a chance on love after his past, and so glad Kirbie never stop being goal-oriented and never let her mom's opinion stop her from living life and eventually finding love.
The dialogue and challenges that Chance and Kirby shared were funny and realistic. I appreciate the fact that it took time for them to grow and learn one another. I want to know how life changed for them!! I'd love to hear about them and the Uptons.
I really enjoyed reading this book. A one-night stand turns into Chance and Kirbie having a truly meaningful relationship. I loved how they got to know one another and love and passion followed.
I loved this story ,it was so real. Kirby and Chance was made for each other they just did not know it. Blessing come into our lives when we least expect them.
Kirbie was so independent and determined, I loved her strong will. Chancellor made me love him, he was sweet and kind under that mask. I think they'll be just fine.
I love certain parts of the story, Chancellor stepping up,although it took him sooo long, love Kirbie’s conviction to be resolute in not blurring the lines. Was disappointed in her parents reaction especially the things her mom spoke to Kirbie.Even though I understood her mom’s concern, some of her words were a bit harsh. Chancellor was so wispy washy, his teammate should have given him a run for his money, ugggh so not a fan of the “ babymama” title.
