Kay Lee Arthur was an American Christian author, Bible teacher, and co-founder of Precept Ministries International. Renowned for her accessible and inductive approach to Bible study, she helped millions engage deeply with Scripture. Arthur began her ministry informally, teaching teenagers in her living room alongside her second husband, Jack Arthur. Their work soon grew into a global outreach, headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, under the name Precept Ministries International. She hosted the daily Bible teaching program Precepts for Life and became a respected voice in evangelical circles. Arthur authored numerous books and was a four-time winner of the ECPA Christian Book Award for titles such as A Marriage Without Regrets and The New Inductive Study Bible. Her ministry was rooted in a personal reawakening to faith in the early 1960s, following a divorce and a return to religious life. She and Jack also served briefly as missionaries in Mexico before founding their ministry. Arthur remained active in public faith-based initiatives into her later years and was known for her firm stances on social issues. She passed away on 2025 leaving behind a lasting legacy in Christian education and publishing.
After reading almost this entire series, I'm convinced there are different authors for some of these guides. The section on Philippians was okay, but added very little to the reading of this Book. The section on Colossians was eight weeks long, with four entire weeks (24 individual days) devoted to Colossians 1. This was overwhelmingly advising the reader to reread this chapter ad nauseum with little insight or cross-referencing. The remainder was focused mostly on Colossians 2, with the final week rushing though chapters 3 and 4.
This guide to the the Epistles of Philippians & Colossians is a must for the first time reader as well as for someone who is familiar with the books. This resource is clear, full of incite and well-organized to aid the Bible student, house wife, and pastor alike.
I'm not a huge fan of Kay Arthur, but when our women's group at church chose this book, I thought I'd give her another chance. I still didn't really like her. I think if I had the time to really sit down and do one of her Precept studies, I'd like it a lot better, but with two small children, I'm lucky to get 30 uninterrupted minutes, let alone the time you truly need for precepts. Anyhow, this was a really tough study to go through this year and I'm looking forward to doing something else next year. It simply is hard for me to "make a list of what you've learned about Paul" when I'm not really learning anything new.
This book was picked for the Women's Bible Study that I attend, and while I love the topic- Philippians and Colossians are wonderful to study, I did not like this book. I am sure that Kay Arthur is very knowledgable about the subject matter, and I did like the process of going over the same portion of scripture again and again, I did not like the marking or list making. I also expect to learn more about the portion of scripture than what I feel or think-and was unimpressed with the the 'teaching'. That said, I will revisit the process of savoring a poprtion of scripture again, however I will not be coloring and marking as much.
This little book really helped me to dig into the books of Philippians and Colossians in the Bible. Using the inductive study method is a great way to really absorb the information. Kay Arthur does a nice job of breaking assignments down into daily increments so that it's not difficult to do.
Kay Arthur lays out one way do do inductive bible study. I don't think this is the only way, but can be a helpful tool. This in-depth look at scripture is great for meditating on God's word. That was very beneficial.
