Taken from an actual event in the author's life, Melanie ignores her mother's call for bedtime, and continues to build her block castle. As her mother continues the bedtime rituals, Melanie soon discovers that being ignored isn't much fun when the shoe is on the other foot.
This is a very sweet story about a little girl named Melanie who is too busy for her nighttime routine, so her parents substitute the dog for those events. The narrative is humorous and the colorful illustrations are terrific. I can imagine that this would be a perfect story to read with younger children who can relate to Melanie being unable to break away from her playtime.
