Here is some brief information about myself.

I’m interested in science because it helps us to understand the world. I enjoy finding out about new things and then working out how to write about them in a way that is both clear (and accurate) but which also conveys my own excitement and interest. I particularly like writing books that are fun, and I have been lucky to have had so many chances to do so.

I was born in Yorkshire in England, but grew up in Stranraer, a small town in south-west Scotland. I graduated from Edinburgh University and then came down to London, where I have lived ever since. I enjoy reading novels, watching films, and walking in the countryside.

I chose to put this book on my favorites shelf because it explains the anatomy of the body to young students. This book is colorful, has great analogies of what the inside of the body is like and has brief descriptions as it points to body parts. The body parts are of young children that may be of the same age as the reader. This book is great for students in Primary grades, preferably 2nd grade. It would be best used during a science period when teaching about the body structure, organs and more.

Genre: Non-Fiction/Health/Science

I would use this book during a science period in my classroom as a read aloud and for students to look at during free time. This book could also be used in later grades when reading is more fluent. If so, I would like to have enough for the whole class to look at. I would like for my students to read a little description and then pop-corn around the room until we have finished a portion or all of the book. During the read aloud I would ask questions that show comprehension and scientific thinking. After reading either a portion or all of the book, I would have students trace a classmate on a large white paper and as a group color in the body parts and label them correctly.

Angela Royston’s story, What’s Inside My Body?, is a clever way for children to learn human anatomy without even thinking about it! The pictures inside the book mirror one another. On one side it shows a young child’s hand, head, eye, etc. while on the mirrored side, shows a cartoon image of the details of the body part. On each page it explains what the body part is, it explains the outer part of that body feature. On the opposite page, the cartoon image focuses on the inside of the body part is displayed in different arrays making it easier for the reader to depict what is what, such as what is a nerve and what is a muscle. This book is very easy to read to young children. There are very few words on each page which makes it a great and fast way for children to learn!

A great beginning explanation of human biology, though the illustrations are hysterically dated at this point.
