Satan is a very real person bent on your damnation. Are you prepared to resist his attacks? While most people aren't possessed -- or even harassed by Old Scratch the way some saints have been -- the Devil does try to gain power over everyone's soul (including yours)! This book explores the one time that he revealed himself long enough to let you study his usual plan of attack, and gives you sure ways to counter it. You need this information now if you re going to fend off the Devil's next attack. Until you have it, you're vulnerable . . . especially to the dangerously subtle methods he uses against people like you, who know the Devil exists and are already on guard. The wisdom here will quickly strengthen you in your struggles against evil in all its forms.
This book was unintentionally a great book to read during Lent. Father Vann is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers after happening across The Heart of Man in a used book store. I'm grateful for how much he wrote and how greatly his writings can minister to me still 60 years after he died.
These books have been powerful meditations for me. In the Gospel story of the tempting of Christ in the desert, we can see the whole life and ministry of Jesus represented and we can take great comfort and strength in that His temptation and His victory were also ours. As St. Gregory the Great expresses it, His temptation was meant to overcome our temptations, just as His death overcomes or own.
Do you believe in the Devil? It is clear that our Lord accepted not merely the fact of his existence but his might, his terrible power to harm, to warp the world. But the earth and its fullness is not Satan's but the Lord's. Satan is the prince of the world of darkness, of evil, emptiness. For evil is non-being. Whereas God made being out of nothing and light out of darkness, Satan turns being into nothingness and light into darkness. To believe in Satan is to be logically committed to belief in God, as the power of evil is privation of the ultimate truth and fulfilment of following the will of the Father.
