[Unknown She: Eight Faces of an Emerging Consciousness] [Author: Hilary Hart] [June, 2003]

Rate this book
Is there a mystical consciousness particularly natural to women? And if so, what role is it playing in the spiritual evolution of our world? To answer these questions, Hilary Hart traveled across the world meeting with contemporary mystics from a variety of traditions including Lakota Sioux, Sufism, Buddhism, and West-African Shamanism. The revelations of feminine wisdom offered from these encounters are not conceptual teachings, but vivid examples of lived spirituality expressed sometimes through simple ways of being, sometimes through profound mystical experiences. Revolutionary and remarkably practical, The Unknown She offers a startling new look at women's unique mystical orientation and its place in the evolution of our universal consciousness.

I really enjoyed this book. I read it slowly, and only before bed so I would fall asleep relaxed and feeling more connected to my true nature....instead of dwelling on all my worldly issues whether I want to or not. In fact, I enjoyed a few of the sections so much I read them 2-3 times. The author travelled and stayed with 8 different spiritual practitioners for a few days with some, and up to a couple weeks with others. Each has a unique spiritual outlook and applications from varied spiritual backgrounds. Each of the 7 ladies, and one gentleman, have found a personal path to living life, while also staying in a state of love and presence - all in ways that work for THEM. I have always struggled with seeking transcendence because I barely keep my life together with all my attention. The stories of these folks made feel better that it's okay to stay engaged in the everyday. For women, God is in the womb, and we are inherently nurturing and creators so we have less need to seek God outside ourselves. We feel the light by loving life and staying present in all that we do.

Wow this is an exceptional read for all those who are interested in the divine feminine and the qualities of a feminine spiritual practice. Such an important contribution to the movement toward anchoring and rebalancing a healthy feminine onto the planet.

This fantastic book includes interviews with eight mystics exploring the reemergence of feminine wisdom across various traditions. All the women featured (and one man) are living embodiments of practical spirituality offering insights into how we can live in these challenging times.
A rich resource, it shows how the truth can be accessed through any tradition. There are many paths to liberation and many forms of mystical awakening. Consciousness is evolving; reading and understanding these women's voices will inspire and encourage you on your own journey into truth.

remember the book and the cover-judging. i always forget. i was ready to hate on this like some blonde seventies california easy breezy jam, but actually it is kind of amazing. it is a world tour of women healer types, and the thesis is basically that women shouldn't be transcending cause they are spiritual in the body, in the material. they have god in the womb. it is somehow totally gendered and still real on point.
