Ah yesss have really found my groove, I can see why some might find this boring nothing much happens it's all very vanilla and unsurprising but that's what I like so much. This is a reality I can imagine and that somehow creates a piercing depth as we see flaw upon flaw in these characters' pursuits of pleasure. On a personal note I find adultery is often made light of in the books I read or the writer fails to make the reader consider its destructive nature, I don't think I like that.

although the insights into real and imagined relationship issues was interesting the ending was (for me) totally unrealistic and a let down. I enjoyed it but not as much as i was hoping for.

One of those books in which nothing really happens. Slow paced but the characters were interesting enough. All the married couples seemed in trouble and I wondered whether the marriages would last. Won't tell you, in case you read it. Strong descriptive passages, heavy on detail if you like that sort of thing.

I learned what I already suspected that nobody really knows anything about other people's marriages.

A book about several people who have been invited to a ball. Light and descriptive, but without much plot.

beautifully insightful. captures the nuanced "dance" ( so perfectly mirrored in the second part of the book )of marriage...and how marvelously complex the steps are.

slightly frightening view of what people do to make marriages work, or just exist. sad, but human.
