" Rozalyn" is the debut novel from new author, Shan. To say this book had me from the beginning is an understatement! This is the story of a young girl named Rozalyn who just can't seem to catch a break in life. With two parents who don't want her she depends on herself. That is until she meets Tamar. This book was good from beginning to end! With twists and turns around every corner, I couldn't believe some of the things that went down! I loved how the point of views changed and gave us insight into each character and their way of thinking. There were a few editing issues but nothing that took away from the story. I can only imagine what will take place in part two. 5 stars to this truly enjoyable read!
This is my first time to read from this author (Shan). Rozalyn is a good and interesting book to read because I cannot stop reading and sleeping on this book. I was about to cry because Rozalyn doesn't deserved this situation. She's been through a lot in her life cause it's too much for her. She didn't enjoyed her childhood and I felt bad for her. Shan did a really good job to put out this book. This author and this book deserved a five stars. I'm looking forward to part 2 of Rozalyn.
Rozalyn takes you inside the life of a fifteen year old girl searching to find someone she can give her heart to. Rozalyn mom puts her out and she is forced to move from New York to Atlanta to live with a father who she believes does not want anything to do with her. While trying to adjust to her new life in Atlanta she meets Andre. Things were going good until he wants to take it to the next level with Rozalyn; she is not ready so Andre moves on. Tamar a.k.a Tae (who is Andre cousin) walks into the restaurant and Rozalyn likes what she sees. When Tamar sees Rozalyn her beauty captures his complete attention.
Tamar has just returned and he has some things to handle out in the streets. Tamar is the type of guy who is all about the streets and does not have time for "LOVE" but he can't push Rozalyn out of his mind. Tae pursues Rozalyn and from day one there is trouble lurking around Tae. So what is Rozalyn to do when her heart won't let go of Tae? Things take a turn when tragedy strikes them both and betrayal knocks at their front door. You will have to read the book to find out what happens next.
I could not stop reading once I started the story; each page had me wanting to know what was going to happen next with the couple. The end leaves you wanting to know what will happen next. For Rozalyn to be Shan's first book it was well written, there were a couple of typos but it was nothing that threw the story off. I can't wait for part 2, so Shan if you read this review PLEASE hurry with the sequel.
This was my first experience with street lit. Have to admit after I got used to the language (I am not a language prude, mind you) I just wanted this to be a happy ending. It was not, though. So much happened to these people!! Admitedly, it made me want more. Glad there is a Rozalyn 2.
This book has a lot of twists and turns a lot of family and friends betrayal. This 15 year old half Filipino half black beauty has been in the midst of mayhem since her mother had thrown her out and made her move in with her estranged father in Atlanta. Roz was a virgin when she moved to Atlanta but ended up losing her virginity to her ex boyfriend’s cousin Tamar “Tae” whom she fallen in love with. After Roz became pregnant, She later found out that Tae had a girlfriend that just got of jail for doing a 1 year bid for him, Shalea. Roz then endured a tragic situation that resulted in the death of her baby and death of her brother. After that event Roz the confesses that the was kicked out of her mother’s house because she witnessed her mother’s boyfriend rape and kill her besfriend and she told the cops. The mother’s boyfriend went to jail but somehow beat the case and the mother call to warn her he was out and that she may be the target. I really do not like Tamar and Rozalyn together. They are both very young but that girl endured so much and much more being with him. I do hate that she turned around and sneakily slept with Brandon, Tamar’s best friend but I think Tae deserves it. He is horrible person that was loved the wrong way, in turn doesn’t know how to show his love. His violent behavior towards her is proof of that. I really like this story, HOWEVER, I listened to the audible version and it was terrible! I do recommend actually reading this particular story if possible. On to book 2!

just ok. Rosalyn and Tamar are toxic asf! Rozalyn is 15 or 16 years old. Tamar is an adult male. they are involved sexually and Tamar regularly puts hands on her. Tamar convinces himself that he loves this girl. no one has a problem with it. Roz goes thru so much. too much. I am def NOT rooting for this couple. nothing good can come of this relationship. someone in Roz life needs to stop this mess.
OMG! Can’t Catch A Break! This poor couple just can’t seem to catch a break!! There can’t be this much drama or bad luck in the world. I’m in search of Book 2 but it’s not in Audible… hopefully I’ll find it because I want to see what happened.
Shan did a great job with this book....I really enjoyed this story...For this to be the first book by this author it was awesome...I have to give her five stars for this...This story kept my attention from the very first page...This story is filled with lots of suspense, drama, love, and violence. My favorite characters was Tae, Rozalyn and Brandon...Tae was mean as hell but sexy at the same time...Roz she reminded me of some of my crazy friends, but that chick needs to man up...If there is a 2nd book...I would love to see her a little more ruthless..I wanted her to give Shalea the beat down...I think she got off too easy... This story was not rushed at all...This was not a short read...It was well worth the money I paid for it...This is a must read...I can't wait until she comes out with book 2.
This book was to much to put in words.Rozalyn was definitely one of the best books I read. It's a story of a young girl name Rozalyn that has to grow up fast when she meets a street gangster name Tamar aka Tae! She finds herself on a long journey of heartache, passion and dangerous life threatening situations. Will she finally find peace of mind and settle with the love of her life. Or will it never end.? We will find out Rozalyn 2 "vengeance of the heart " comes out Feb 15,2012 CAN'T WAIT!
This book was a high drama read,It held my attention throughout the entire book, poor Rozalyn it seemed when it rained it poured she had to endure so much at such a young age,I dont think it can get any worse, but I will be there to find out when part 2 come out..I need part 2 today,I cant wait..Great Job Shan
I really enjoyed this book. I literally could not put it down, it pulls you in to the point where you are talking to the characters asking "why would you do that?". I really hope Roz can find true happiness in book two and Tamar can find people he can actually trust.
Well, this is certainly an urban tale. For the most part I liked the story and enjoy the female narrator more than the male. Nicole Small really didn't do much in distinguishing the women characters but the men's voices, accents and consistency was awesome. As a southern girl who knew lots of people from the slums, she makes Tae sound so believable.
As for Rozalyn, the character...it's just a hard pass for me. Although I felt for her and her situations, she kinda put herself in a bad position by getting involved with older men and lying about her age. She just never really grew up. Sadly, it can be this way in real life for some people.
There's so much happening at one time but not enough to make me want to endure the whole series. This book seemed so drawn out. Great story, good execution, too busy.
Well, I don’t know how to rate this book. The good news is there were two narrators. The bad news is I wasn’t a fan of either of them. The female narrator didn’t switch it up when doing other female characters and that was often Confusing trying to figure out who was talking. She wasn’t awful, just not easily understood The male narrator was not good at all. It was a rough roll But he was not up for the charger.
Anyway, she had a hard life and was super immature. I had to keep reminding myself of her age and upbringing. I felt bad for her and wanted goodness for her. Im pretty sure I’ll read the next book but not four more!
I struggled to find a character to like in this book. Rozalyn was very naive and made horrible decisions the entire book. She showed no growth at all. She just followed Tamar around like a sad puppy. I usually like the men in most books I read, but Tamar was a jerk the whole way through. He constantly put his hands on Roz, he left her unprotected on occasions when her safety was at risk and every time he did, something awful happened to her. It’s like nobody learned any type of lesson in this book. I don’t think I’ll continue with this series. I think I’ll try another Shan series.
Omg how could you leave us hanging like this? 😩🤦🏽♀️ there’s soooo much more i need from Rozalyn & Tamar! Like where is she? Who kidnapped her once again? Is the baby ok? Will she live to tell the story of everything that happened? 😨😨😨😨 I’m completely blown by this ending but i must admit it’s very well written & I’ll def be on the look out for more from Tamar & Rozalyn & maybe even all the remaining characters in the novel 😍😍 keep up the great work love until next time 🤞🏾
Though this isn’t my first time reading this book, I decided to take another crack at it. I was just as intrigued as I was when I first read it. The book just has the ability to reel you in and depending on your background you can connect with the characters. Besides a few grammatical errors that threw me off while reading, I honestly enjoyed this book for the 4th time LOL.
Yyyyyeeeesssss!!!!!! Yyyyeeeessss!!!!! GO DOWNLOAD IT NOW
Must Read. This book can not be placed on a chart. (Off the chart is and under statement) Full of drama and we keep you wanting to read more. From the time I turned the first page to the last page I stayed entertained. Please go download it asap.
This book was well written despite the grammatical errors. I loved how the background of the characters builds throughout the novel. Roz is a troubled youth who is wronged by those around her. She meets Tae and feels a connection despite the danger that comes with being around him. Will they defy the odds and end up together?
