Freaky Jules (Vanished) A girl mysteriously disappears at school, and the cops are baffled. Julia (Jules) Dundee, the school freak, is compelled to use her paranormal abilities to recover the missing girl. With the aid her new-found friend, boyfriend wannabe, Jack Kilgore, she starts on a journey that ends up out of this universe. Freaky Jules (Pants on Fire) High school athletes are inexplicably bursting into flames. While Julia (Jules) Dundee struggles with her strange life, and the paranormal abilities that torment her, she gets caught up in the mysterious occurrences of athletes suddenly bursting into flames. The authorities believe the answer lies in the chemical make-up of uniforms, while Jules knows the truth, which has emerged from her murky past.
I love Tom Upton's writing style and quirky characters. Julia (Jules) is known as a freak because of her paranormal abilities. In these two entertaining short novellas, we follow her on a journey of self-discovery. The teenager struggles to come to terms with her own powers and how they affect the world around her. There is intrigue, danger, adventure, and a lot of imagination in these two stories.
In the first tale, a girl disappears at Jules' school and she is called on to use her special abilities to find the girl before it's too late. In the second story, Jules is again coerced into assisting with something she is initially reluctant to do; High School athletes are bursting into flames and no one knows why. Can Freaky Jules get to the bottom of it? Joining her in her adventures is a boy called Jack, who has an interest in all things paranormal and is also hoping to win Jules' heart.
Forever Freaky contains many interesting and realistic characters. These fun fantasy/paranormal tales come across as quite believable even though there are many strange things going on, which shows how skilled this writer is. I was drawn into the stories and enjoyed every page. I will definitely be looking out for more of this author's books.
Two stories in one book, and they flowed together nicely. While there might have been a typo here or there, overall, I really enjoyed this book and wasn't bothered at all by those tiny little mistakes. In fact, it was quite nice to actually come across a decent book without the typical tropes for a change, so kudos to the author for having an original thought that could hold my attention. It was a quick read, just because it was so entertaining that I couldn't put it down. Well deserved stars!
this book is two books in one. vanished and pants on fire. in vanished a girl has gone missing from the girls bathroom. jules meets jack who is in love with jules and with her paranormal abilities its easier on her if he didnt. he convinces her to use her powers to find the girl and the find a portal in the stall she was in and the hope to pull her back. in pants on fire people or bursting into flame for no reason known to jules and jack till they realize its an old friend of jules and when she confronts her and find the girl is crazy she doesnt want anything to do with her plan but she wont let jules back out without a fight. so jules prepares for battle while an evil force is also tacking her she knows nothing about and may not be able to save herself.
I really enjoyed this story. There are editing problems, but I've come to expect that from books like this. Its actually not as bad as some others that I've read. The story, though, is interesting. The characters are fun, the situations are entertaining, and I feel that they really portray teenagers well (aside from the paranormal aspect). I was pleasantly surprised with these stories (the book contains the first and second books in the Freaky Jules series), and with the series in general. I ended up getting them for free on Amazon, but after reading them, I've become more interested in Tom Upton's work and can say that his works ARE worth paying for. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Unusual main character that intrigues you from the start. There are a lot of stories out there about people with special powers but this one is different. Unique plots. Easy read. Enjoyable.
