My mother-in-law sent this to me and to my husband- HAHA- and it really just regurgitates a lot of other books on this subject. Nothing new and I’m continually amazed at what is republished under new titles and new covers with the same material but whatever, it’s al-anon connected along with addiction, and a series of good reminders for anyone involving emotional independence.

Profound, sincere advice on establishing emotional independence, O. has pages of helpful suggestions and interesting anecdotes. The book acts as a primer on attitude adjustments. Most of the quotes come from Al-Anon literature with some from A.A., but the goal is the same: Enjoy life.

Amazing. Even those who don’t struggle with alcoholism can benefit from this book. Not letting other people, events, situations, or life in general, determine your state of mind and your sense of peace - in today’s times I hardly know anyone who COULDN’T benefit from these simple life lessons.

I took my time with this book, reading just a bit, grabbing a nugget, and then putting the book down as I absorbed the guidance.

3.5 stars, rounded up. A nice refresher on emotional sobriety, and it’s got a good amount of lines that are worth underlining and quoting.

This book was too religious for me and focused more on alcoholism than my current issues require. I did learn some new perspectives I intend to apply, though, since I do have anger problems and sometimes see myself as a victim. I'm not sure I feel as extreme about the topic as the author does, though.

I enjoyed the lessons here, all stemming from that wonderful title. A little more focused on alcoholism that I would have liked but wonderful and worth reading.
