I don't quite remember when I decided to be a writer but I do know that I got my first rejection in the fourth grade.
My friends and I would act out little plays which had always been written by the popular girl. I went home and wrote one and came back and proudly offered my creation. One problem: my handwriting was so bad (long before laptops) that no one could read it. It took a long time to get over that rejection.
Sarana's Gift is my first work of fiction and it was an incredible journey. I think that scared little girl came along for the ride and she's now ready to face the world and all its dragons.
I hope you enjoy and I want to hear from all of you about how you handle your tough decisions.
I may be slightly prejudiced ... ;-) ... but mindmapping changed the way I think and I was delighted to be able to share my experience with it. I hope you enjoy the book ... but, even more, I hope you play with the technique and see if it helps you.
This was assigned reading for a course I took in college many moons ago, but I never actually read it then. I had some sort of mental-resistance to the entire idea of mind mapping and just chose to bluff my way through all of those assignments. What a waste! Really, the book is so simple and accessible and the writing prompts changed how I journal, plan, schedule, and write. Only reason it's not 5 stars is that a lot of the material is pretty dated (1991) by now so I'm not sure that I would recommend it to others, but I'm definitely glad I dusted it off and gave it a real chance. It earned it's place back onto my bookshelf.
Mindmapping is a simple graphical technique that can be used for note taking, brainstorming, outlining, just about anything. This book is practical and has handy exercises and suggestions for applications of mindmapping.
