Why do chickens suddenly loom large in Jill Maxwell's life, and how worried should she be about the day of burning? Now in possession of all four compass stones, It's time to confront her nemesis, Braxmore, in a fight to the death.
This series is adorable. Jill gets caught up in some funny situations and it’s fun to see how she gets out of them. An enjoyable fun cozy mystery with magic!
If you're looking at this review, know that I've read all 48 books and most of them were read in 2020 when we were stuck at home and I now wait patiently for them to out throughout the year. I've also read all of Adele's other books and series. So let it be known that I will shout Adele Abbott's praise from the rooftops.
Adele has a recipe for her Witch P.I. books and it is a big reason why I love them so much. Her characters evolve just enough and the storylines are just different enough that it is a different book each time but also the same comforting read.
This tale is no different. I love Jack and Jill, I love this silly puns. I love the crazy investigations. And the best? Adele can write. I've read many authors lately who can weave a tale but their plot lines become so convoluted as they try to tie them back together, it's clear they're still young or immature in their craft. Adele has worked it out to tell a winding tale that all comes together in the end without dropping the plot or making it so chaotic it loses your interest, and you'll be better for it. I'm always blown away by her creative ways to tie together the plot.
You don't have to read the stories in order or binge the whole series. But it does make more sense that way, so if you're looking to say start, I do say start with 1.
If you like witches, puns and other humor, mysteries that typically wind up making you laugh, and family dynamics and it sounds fun all rolled together, this is the series for you.
I will say, I'm curious to know more about the Braxmore storyline, as that seemed to be a misstep or a left too long storyline in this particular book. Idk if Adele felt like she had to wrap up Braxmore before the next season started or what but honestly, it felt rushed and out of place. But I trust Adele. So Ill look forward to the next book!
I am a fan of this series. It’s generally light hearted with some fun characters. This book disappointed me. Jill has always been goofy and mostly incompetent but for some reason the multitude of times it happened in this book struck me in not a good way. The way Florence is written makes her unlikable as she seems completely spoiled. I was not pleased with how the whole Braxmore saga came to an end. This was brought up in book after book after book to basically be a one paragraph ‘end’ that basically seemed like a throwaway.
Winky is really the only character left to enjoy. His delusions remain strong in the book. The rest of the supporting cast was largely left on the side which is a shame since they have been the most entertaining for years.
We finally got resolution to the long, drawn out Braxmore saga. According to the end note, the next book will start a new story with another time leap. I hope it's easier to follow than this one. Please, Ms. Abbott, if you read reviews. Give us a few reminders in each new book of what happened in the previous book. I know we old fogies are not your target audience, but you do have at least this septuagenarian as a fan. We need a few gentle reminders to help us keep track of the threads through a long running saga. You don't need long recaps, just reminders. Thanks!

Adele Abbott has done it again! Another great book filled with humour, mystery and surprises! Our Jill Maxwell has her hands full with two new cases and her grandmother also has work for her too. Grandma claims that the witch hunters are gathering up the witches and she needs Jill to stop them before they find her daughter too. A great book and I'm really looking forward to the next one too!
Amazing, funny, phenomenonal, engaging, and entertaining...
Adele Abbott is an awesome author.. This series of books were the kind when you pick up, you can't put down and if you have to your sad... This book right here kept my I interest to the point I read it in one and a half days, it would have been faster but life called.. Please read this series you will not be disappointed...
I love this book and I love Ms. Abbott’s excellent sense of humor!! I have never laughed so much. Every character she creates is my favorite. Her stories flow easily and keep you entertained. I never felt like there was a lull in the story or a lot of unnecessary filler. She is a very gifted and creative author. You won't be sorry to buy this book.
I enjoy everyone of these books and if you have not read any of them why not what are you waiting for,I can’t wait for the next one and I hope they never end .thank you very much for writing them.
Can't explain why. It just makes me laugh. The predictable parts are a comfort but there are always surprises. Like a favorite blanket on a cold day, its comfortable and welcome whenever a new one appears.
Again, another entertaining book and again, how does she come up with the hysterical names of the people and the funny characters. I just remembered the bubble things in her bathtub. Hysterical.
I love these silly little stories. I often use this series as a pallet cleanser. They are just light and fun and you can kind of jump in and jump out as desired. Just fun. Not deep. Not introspective etc. Just a very light and fun read.
