John Lewis Hart, also known as Johnny Hart, was an American cartoonist noted as the creator of the comic strip B.C. and co-creator (with Brant Parker) of the strip The Wizard of Id. Hart was recognized with several awards, including five from the National Cartoonists Society, and the Swedish Adamson Award. In his later years, he sparked controversy by incorporating overtly Christian themes and messages into the strips.
B.C and his pals are continuing their exploration of the world, under every rock and past every hill - but it will take some serious imagination and a plethora of wacky plans to get human civilization on its way. Hart will keep fans chuckling the whole way through with his classic style of wit and charm in another enjoyable collection of short but sweet strips. Beware the dip in the road lest it bring what little stands tumbling down.
I love B.C.! And this compilation of cartoons is classic.
The cover itself is great, A guy wheeling along a road, seeing a sign saying "Dip in Road," and then a very funny looking guy sitting on a rock in the roadway.
Another amusing cartoon. . . . A dude is looking up buffalo in a dictionary. The dictionary says "see bison." When he looks up bison in the book, he reads "the second largest city in N.Y. state."
And on it goes. I don't see a publication date on the volume, but the cost was only 75 cents, so it must have been a while back!
Coming out in 1974 with strips from 69, specifically mid-March through mid-October, I calculate the book incudes about 60 % of the dailies for that period. Hart’s in decent form here, not quite as good as in the previous volume but there are still good laughs to be found.
