I don't think I'll ever be at the level of proficiency needed to complete anything in this book. But every time I flip through the pages, I am inspired to create or cultivate beautiful things. This is one of the books I pick up when I need inspiration. Beautiful book.

I am a big fan of Thomasina Beck's embroidery books. They are beautifully written, easily readable, with a depth of scholarship and research supporting the lovely embroideries discussed. In this book she assumes that you would like to design a piece of embroidery that is based around a garden design. She talks you through the key topics of design and then uses some examples of Knot gardens, Topiary, Flowers and foliage, water gardens - that kind of thing. All of it is well illustrated with many pictures of gardens and embroideries.
