Loveeedddd the continuation! If you're a fan of Cinderella or the show OUAT, then this book is for you. This is a great fantasy retelling/spin off. Also if you're looking for a good clean read for your younger teenager then I highly recommend this book.
Book 2 picks up right where we left off on book 1. We see where Ellie is coming to terms with the fact she is finally getting married and how she really feels about her prince and whether or not the marriage will be one of convenience any more.
However due to a set of circumstances*cough traitorous witch cough* Ellie ends up being sent to the real world through a portal and getting trapped there. When she arrives in our real world (starting to see the OUAT themes? Bc I love it) she learns her dear beloved sister she once thought dead is actually alive!!!
Now, feeling more betrayed than ever Ellie must come to terms with being lied to not only by her sister Thea but Micah as well since he knew she was alive and instead chose not to tell Ellie letting her live with her guilt.
While being stuck with a whole new set of anger, hurt and betrayal Ellie must learn to unlock her power so the portal home can be fixed and she can get back to their youngest sister and make sure she is safe and take on the witch....
This next book on the series was such a fun and emotional ride. I can tell the characters defn grew and expanded since book one and the world building from book 1 came to fruition and we see exactly where the author was heading and hinting to us at before.
This authors skills are getting better with every book and I adored it for a fun magical and clean YA fantasy read.

So, first things first- my favorite part of this book is the cover. Not only is it gorgeous, but take a second and notice some details- especially the reflection in the water. It's amazing.
Now, on to the book. If you like fantasy, love triangles, The Selection, Hunger Games, family dynamics, magic mixed with modern and heavy themes of duty, forgiveness and worth, check this one out. Plus, besides the love triangle there is some additional romance and its the one I'm invested in. :)
It is part of a series, definitely not stand alone. It ends on a cliff hanger and while I liked this one more than book 1, you need to start there. :) Available on KU, paperback, and hardcover.
I loved this book even more than I did the first one. This book was full of surprises, twists, turns, sadness, conflict, friendship, and love triangles. It definitely leaves you on a cliffhanger making you want more. For the record I am definitely Team Micah.
I was provided a copy of the book from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
If you plan to read this book, fair warning that you shouldn’t plan to do anything else but read once you start. You cannot put it down because it moves so quickly and yet so well through the storyline that you will be entirely engaged the whole time. But you will never be sad that you put everything else aside because this is the most fascinating fantasy book with excellent characters and witty dialogue. This story picks up right where the first left off and things fly on from there. I loved that we got to go back to Terra and then to Chicago throughout the story. I really love the history and architecture of Chicago so it was neat to “visit” through Ellie’s eyes. So many questions were answered by the end about Ellie and Thea’s history but so many more were unanswered for the moment. And I cannot wait to see what will happen with Ellie, Aden and Micah. Sides have been chosen now but we’ll see if they stay the same. Fingers crossed Megan will have the next book out sooner than later 💙
I received a complimentary ARC of this story from the author via BookFunnel. I am not required by anyone to write a positive review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
Megan Lynn Rose has done it again. Book 2 in the series has even a tighter grip on me than book one. At least now I’ve finally decided that I am team Micah (for now, we’ll see book 3). I was really hoping that Ellie and Micah’s relationship would grow more this book and that maybe Thea and Aden would be fated-loves because I don’t want Aden to be left out. But I am really liking Thea and Dan together too. I’m hoping to see more of them in future books and possibly spin-offs into the other realms too! I have no idea how long we have to wait for book 3 but I hope it’s soon!! I do hope the conflict with the Dark Witch wraps up next book. I’m not ready to say bye to these characters but I wouldn’t mind moving onto another conflict. This book is an easy read. While it isn’t spicy romantic I felt like book 2 focused a lot more on internal conflicts versus making a lot of progress on the conflict with the enemy, the Dark Witch. Do I even sense Megan trying to give the Dark Witch a redemption arc? I can’t wait to read what happens next.
I just read and loved “City of Secrets,” by Megan Lynn Rose!! This is book 2 in the ‘Broken Kingdom,’ series! I really really enjoyed this one!! Immediately we jump back into the story and it’s nonstop action and adventure all the way through!
I thought it was so cool to get more characters in this book from the last one while also getting more depth with the characters we already knew! Ellie really grew strength wise from the beginning to the end of this story! And of course we have the love triangle!!! Megan is killing it with this one!! I can not wait for book 3!!!
With lots of action, adventure, mystery, and a whole new realm, you can’t help but love this one and be on the edge of your seat too!! Definitely read “Kingdom of Lies,” before grabbing this one, but be ready to binge book 2 right after!! Keep an eye out, Releasing June 23rd!!
*I received a review copy of the book from the author, all opinions are my own!
firstly, thank you so much to the author for giving me the arc! I’m so excited to finally be able to share my review🫶🏻
this book was so so good, I couldn’t put it down. it was even MORE twisty and addictive as the first book in the series. I am seriously blown away.
this book follows mainly Ellie who is about to get married when the palace gets attacked and she is separated from the one person she wants to keep safe… her younger sister britta. Ellie, Aden, Micah and a few others get thrown into the modern realm of Chicago Illinois. Ellie has no idea what all the cars, buildings and cell phones are - it’s a whole different universe to her. throughout the story the love triangle continues as Ellie struggles to choose between Micah and Aden. we follow them as they try to fix a broken portal so they can get back to the enchanted world before it’s too late to save britta.
I LOVEDDDD every second of this book and it was so nice to have the romance come through more while still keeping the amazing and gripping plot. having most of the story take place in the modern world was so fun as Ellie was awfully confused and we followed her trying to figure out what things were. SO MANY plot twists happen…… like ALOT. AND I LOVED IT. but we were left on a CLIFFHANGER😩 I NEED book 3 I can’t cope with waiting! so so good, this series is a new fave 🫶🏻💗
Ellie has grown a lot from book 1 to now. She’s become more action oriented, although I wouldn’t say decisive as the love triangle is a major factor in the entire book and she’s unable to pick which man she wants more.
The side conflicts in this book are engaging and I loved the theme of learning to forgive, either yourself or others. Also, the theme of following your inner voice was well done.
I would have given this novel a five, but the level of exposition and on the nose dialogue was very heavy. Despite this, I still really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others who are into this genre. There is very minimal spice and only mild swearing.
This is book 2 of The Broken Kingdom Series and it did not disappoint! The prologue of this one opens up a huge secret that I wasn’t expecting at all. We come back into Ellie’s life as she’s about to get married but she’s so confused…is she doing the right thing? Yet a horrible attack thrusts her into a new world opening up secrets and lies she never could’ve imagined. Ellie and her people spend this book fighting their way back to the kingdom she calls home. I couldn’t put this book down. There are so many twists and turns and things you would’ve never expected! Great book! Now onto book 3!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Instantly Megan drew me in to City of Secrets, hoping to find out who Ellie was going to choose in her love triangle. The romance scenes are tasteful, but still intense. Her character development was amazing and I felt like I could picture the setting and the characters. This book is packed with the perfect amount of love, drama and action. It is a story filled with grace and mercy. A great reminder that your past doesn’t have to define you forever! I am already so excited for the next book!!!
I had so much fun reading this book. I couldn’t put it down! I was so invested in the portals/multiple realms concept, and watching the Enchanted Realm characters struggle to understand modern day Chicago was highly entertaining. We meet some new faces, a number of which became my new favorites, and I couldn’t get enough of everyone’s interactions.
The book took some twists and turns I wasn’t expecting—Megan really kept me on my toes! I keep wondering about the characters and how their stories are going to end. I’m both excited and scared to find out what happens in book 3😅
Wow! An exceptional second book in this trilogy by Megan Lynn Rose! I am blown away by her brilliant world building that she blends and weaves beautifully, creatively and magically throughout the story. Her characters Ellie, Thea, Micah and Adyn are so likeable and engaging. Their growth within this second book was fantastic with more room to grow. I am hoping Micah wins Ellie's heart in the end. And what becomes of Britta? I can't wait for the next book! I highly recommend reading this book!
This book was soooo good. Everything about it had my drawn in. The world building, the characters. The secondary romance. I LOVE a good love triangle and this had it. It had fantasy, romance, royal, friends to lovers, and it is a YA read, so it has a little bit of everything in it.
Also, let’s talk about that cover it is absolutely GORGEOUS.
Fantasy, mystery, action, and adventure, alongside so much lovely and complicated romance. I am loving this series so much! Fair warning, you should read Book 1 first and then brace yourself for the cliffhanger ending of Book 2. I now sit, impatiently waiting for Book 3…
Note to my clean readers: There is some minor profanity; however less than in Book 1.
Wow. Just wow. The suspense and drama… grab your popcorn and get ready for the fireworks! This story line and multiple point of views from characters will have you hooked throughout the entire book.
And the ending?! I’m so invested in this story, I have to know what happens next!!
It’s a really good continuation of the first story and introduces some interesting plot twist. I did feel like it was slow in some parts but was able to overlook it. I didn’t realize there will be a 3rd book when I started it but I’m excited to see how it ends.
"Spirit, lead me. My trust is without bounds. My hands are open. Take me and use me as you see fit."
My goodness, I just love this series! The world-building is so unique and this sequel definitely took it to a whole new level. I loved the concept of multiple realms, and it was super fun to explore the "Prot" headquarters in the modern world. I felt completely sucked in and couldn't predict what would happen next.
And the love triangle...it's painful but it's so good. Ellie is killing me! The girl needs to make a choice but I understand how she is confused. Aden and Micah are both pretty amazing! The romance does take a bit of a backseat in this book but I still really enjoyed it.
Releases June 23rd!
4/5 stars

Quickly becoming one of my favorite series! I absolutely loved this book. I love Ellie’s growth (plus ♥️ triangles are my jam!) can’t wait to see how the rest of this series goes. I’m so excited for the next one! 10/10 would recommend
A complete and utter page turner! Soooo much happens, and soooo much is revealed, and I was at the edge of my seat for every second of it! The realms, the broken portal, the villianess, the twists, the love triangle! Gah, it is so good! I’m absolutely dying for the next one!
Listen. Book 1 was good. But book 2 showed so much growth in Megan’s writing and pulled me in from the very beginning!!! It ends with a perfect set up for book three and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!!
May 2025 review -- The second installment in this trilogy wastes no time diving back into the emotional aftermath and magical complexity set up in the first book. Where Book 1 was intimate and grounded in grief and identity, this sequel expands into a broader, more layered world—complete with portal realms, underground resistance networks, shifting alliances, and ancient magical legacies.
Ellie’s journey intensifies as she grapples not only with the pain of her past, but with unraveling truths about her family, her magic, and the weight of destiny. The introduction of new realms, old secrets, and long-lost connections adds an epic feel to the story, but the emotional heart remains steady: Ellie’s longing for love, truth, and belonging.
The relationships in this book evolve in unexpected ways—some deepen, some fracture, and others are thrown into question entirely. There’s a distinct sense of characters growing into their own paths, and the tension between loyalty and betrayal is skillfully woven throughout. We also get answers to long-held questions and are left with even more tantalizing mysteries.
If the first book broke your heart, this one stitches it back up just enough to break it all over again. It’s magical, emotional, and smartly plotted, with twists that hit hard and worldbuilding that truly shines.
3.5 stars. It didn’t quite click with me but was still an enjoyable read. I think because I didn’t get fully invested in book one I struggled to connect with book two. It is great writing. Read if you enjoy YA fantasy, love triangles, portal to the modern world, and lots of fight scenes.
