For this single mom, murder is a coin toss away. Lorna Doyle dreams of a life without her ex, but when he disappears, she becomes the prime suspect and the nightmare begins.
The cops weren’t the only ones looking for her no-good ex-husband. No-neck thugs were making regular appearances. She’d do anything to protect her children, even keep her ex’s secret.
Homicide detective CJ Whittier has an ex-wife, perpetually disappointed parents, and a dead body. Of the three, he prefers the dead body.
CJ knows a stolen collectibles deal is going down soon and a killer’s on the loose in their suburban city. The sexy, single mom Lorna is messing with his case and his head.
His cop senses whisper Lorna’s the key, but is she the killer or the next victim?
Enjoyed this book, its suspenseful and interesting with an underlying plot to carry into the next book, however this is a HEA for CJ and Lorna. The story line, plot and idea are well thought out and interesting with a few twists and turns and surprising revelations at the end mixed with some humor, family, very strong parental love, a sexy detective and very strong sassy single mom. The character development and personalities were well developed.
The chemistry between CJ and Lorna was intense and they start to fall in love while investigating the disappearance and then murder of her ex. Lots of action and suspense and I loved how CJ and Lorna are in tune with each other at the end, relying on and trusting each other. A solid start to the new series, excited to read the next book.

Skillfully written. Wiggs immerses us In the world of her characters in a way that held my attention from the very beginning of the book. The characters are well developed and the plot is unexpected. Her writing exceeds the skill of many authors I currently read. Although romance and genre, there is a wonderful mystery woven in. I think this will appeal to a wide variety of readers. I can't wait until her next book comes out. This is an author definitely to follow.
This is a great story between a homicide detective CJ and a mother Lorna. All she wants to do is protect her children from the people that were after her ex-husband. Can she trust CJ to keep her and her kids safe, while CJ wonders if she is really as innocent as she appears.

This is a new author for me, and I found her romantic suspense very well-written and fun to read. The characters were both interesting and relatable. She wove the humor of everyday life into the story, along with great romantic chemistry, and an intriguing mystery. The energy and flow were engaging. I just really enjoyed the whole book-a great read!
Who hasn't wished that an annoying ex would disappear. I enjoyed the heck out of the characters and plot. Love a happy ending. That being said, this book gets 3 stars instead of 5 for poor editing. There are numerous errors in tense, and one glaring repeated use of the word shutter. Please Diane go to your dictionary and look up shutter, then look up shudder. Please find a better editor.
I enjoyed this romantic who-dun-it. The murder mystery keeps the reader guessing with interesting characters and plot. Lorna and C.J. experience an instant lust at first sight but they don’t act on it immediately (which is a nice change from many romances). I liked that both primary protagonists were hard working single parents who dearly love their children. I didn’t need the detailed sex scene or the many typos. Rated R.
This is my first read from this new author and I am I love. It was mysterious and suspenseful, that it kept me up into the early morning. I love it when I find a new author I can binge. I would definitely recommend this author and book. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Suspense…romance…comedy…combined make for a storyline you just can’t put down! We’re the book more carefully edited, it would have been a Class A read!
Lorna is a Marketing Manager and has 3 children with her ex-husband Brody. Brody has gotten in trouble and disappears. He contacts Lorna to help him she agrees thinking he is the children’s father. Before she can help him Detective CJ Whittier shows up at her door with questions about her being at her ex’s house earlier in the evening and that Brody is no where to be found and could possibly be dead. CJ and Lorna see a lot of each other as CJ investigates a murder and Brody’s disappearance. This is a very good, fast reading book. CJ is very patient with Lorna as they navigate the case. Lorna knows she is considered a suspect but still cares about CJ and they start a relationship. I liked how both CJ and Lorna are protective of her children. I liked how they both worried about each other and protected each other. This is a very good book and I would definitely read more books by this author and this series.
CJ and Lorna. Romance in an unlikely meeting. The meeting was fun and the chemistry present. The criminal case and ex husband/violence issues were interesting and kept a good pace. Good development of characters. I figured out the main guy, but still have my mind circling on the bad cop question. The family dynamic was fun and brought a humorous slant to some scenes and moments.
First time reading this author's work and found the story engaging with a good weave of suspense, action and steam. There were a couple of typos that should have been picked up by a proofreader but nothing too glaring to disrupt my reading flow. It feels like the 'mystery' part hasn't been fully solved so perhaps it's for a continuing arc but this one ends on a HFN.
This is my first read from this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the mystery and suspense of the “who-dun-it” and I am still trying to figure out who the “mole” is!
The story line caught my attention from the beginning and held my interest throughout the entire book. Good pace and good characters – enjoyed the chemistry between Lorna and CJ!
I really enjoyed this story! I'm a huge fan of murder mysteries. Perry Mason and Jessica Fletcher mixed with a little steam. It was a really good story! Thank you for your time, talent AND THE STORY.
This story snagged you from page one. Not only waz it a good mystery but also a great love story! It kind of left you with a cliffhanger. Can't wait to read the next book!
It was a very interesting romantic suspense book. I love cop books and the fact that the couple was a little older and they have children even teenagers was fun too. I would’ve liked a little more family interaction between the kids to see how that was gonna work out, but it was a good book.
There were so many errors in the books it was hard to read. Misspelled words and horrible grammar among other things. The story line was okay, but it is really difficult to get past so many errors.
This book was just ok. It wasn’t badly written it just didn’t hold my attention and I felt like I was forcing myself thru the book. I don’t think I’ll finish the series.
