The prince who always puts duty first. The computer genius who flips his military world upside down. A forbidden love that could tear the kingdom apart.
Prince Raymond August, second in line to his twin brother, is head of security and feels the weight of protecting his family and his kingdom deeply. He won’t let another tragedy occur, not after his own dear mother was murdered right under his nose. His pain and grief deepen his resolve to be ever-vigilant, no matter the cost. He especially can’t allow himself to be distracted by the beautiful woman assigned to protect his brother, even if every moment he spends with her feels more wonderful and right than the last.
When Macey Clifton is asked to fake an engagement to Crown Prince Tristan to protect him, she knows she’s not cut out for the royal world. She’d prefer to hide behind her large unnecessary glasses, frumpy clothes, and keep to her security analytics. But no other female warriors are available at the moment, so she agrees. To prove to herself that she really is brave, bold, and beautiful, she impulsively greets the prince with a kiss when she first meets him. To her great surprise, this most incredible kiss of the century turns out to not be with her fiancé, but with his twin brother, Ray.
Macey and Ray both try to fight their feelings, but can’t resist sneaking glances at each other. As they work together to solve the queen’s murder and protect the crown prince from anonymous death threats, they realize they are falling far too quickly in love.
Will their undeniable attraction, secret rendezvous, and forbidden love blossom into a happily ever after, or only cause a shattered brotherhood and longing for something they’ll never have?

Cami Checketts is one of my favorites, as long as she isn't writing the cookie cutter fake romances, or billionaire romances with some of my other favorite authors (also when not writing cookie cutters).
This book was a fun, lighthearted read, with two problems which lost it a star. The first is the repetition of phrases and ideas, almost to the point of distraction. I felt at times Cami was using these to achieve her word count.
The second is that the story abruptly ended without a lot of the outstanding issues being resolved. What about the queen's death? No fairytale wedding?
Fortunately, this is a book series, so hopefully things will be resolved in future stories. If not, I will revisit this review and lower my rating.
Prince Raymond August is the General of his father's military and head of security. Yet, he has been unable to determine whether or not his mother was murdered. The alternative, suicide, is unthinkable. Macey Clifton is an analyst who usually works behind the scenes. However, she has been assigned as Crown Prince Tristan's bodyguard as his fake fiancé to protect him from anonymous death threats. When she decides to be bold, she kisses the first prince to whom she is introduced, assuming he's Tristan. Wrong. It's Ray.
This Christian Mystery & Suspense Romance is astounding. The primary tension between the pair comes from trying to do their respective jobs versus being distracted by the building feelings. The two mysteries, the queen's death, and the death threat, might be one combined mystery. Or not. A happy ending results from brotherly talks after a mystery is resolved.
Sweet romance starting with something fake The kingdom of Augustine was sweet despite its curses and it's sad tragedy of the last queen. Macey's first meeting with Kiera which led to the meeting with Ray was sweet and brought a smile to my face. With all her geekiness and computer skills, Macey pretending to T's fake fiance to get to the bottom of the security problems plaguing Augustine was a lovely way to get her to the kingdom. Her first meeting with the wrong twin starts the story as Ray discovers that he has feelings for Macey. Kiera was probably the sweetest of the lot but T himself was a good brother to Ray and he was more than responsible for the story moving in the right direction. Cute characters and lovely chemistry between the lead pair and the understanding between the other characters was great to read. Sweet short romance. Enjoyed the story.
This was an incredible start to a new series by Cami Checketts. This fake engagement plot has a twist in this story. Macey Clifton pretends to be engaged to a Crown Prince as his life has been threatened. On her first day at the castle, Macey accidentally mistakes Prince Tristan's identical twin Raymond as Tristan and kisses him. The two must fight their developing feelings for each other while Macey continues to be fake engaged to and protect Tristan. Tristan realizes Raymond has feelings for Macey and plots to push them together. Keirra, the youngest and only girl of the family, is a wild child. I'm looking forward to reading more of her escapades in this series.
Ms.Checketts takes the reader on an adventure in a new pocket-kingdom in Europe. With vivid descriptions of the lush scenery, intrepid agents from Sutton Smith's private security services team up with the local military security forces to protect the kingdom's Crown Prince from death threats as well as attempt to solve the mystery surrounding the death of the late Queen.
This series promises to meet the high expectations of Ms.Checketts' readers for quality romantic suspense fiction.
I received an ARC copy of this story from the author via BookFunnel and voluntarily chose to share my review.
Great beginning to a new series by Cami Checketts. Fun characters and storyline. Macey is a reclusive nerd who keeps all the computers and software of Sutton Smith’s company working correctly. She is on her way to live with the royal family in a palace and pretend to be engaged to Prince Tristan. Raymond is Tristan’s identical twin who accidentally is kissed by Macey on her first day in the castle. The attraction is mutually intense but she is supposed to be his twin’s “fiancée”. *I received this book as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.
What a marvelous beginning for this series. Macey, Sutton Smith's mousy computer nerd, is transformed into a "fake" princess via a fake fiance'. What happens when she kisses the wrong Prince? This Royal Family includes a mysterious death as well as death threats. The mysterious death is rumored to be due to a curse on the family but the family feels this is incorrect. The Royal family does not believe in the curse, thus, hiring Sutton Smith to investigate by sending Macey undercover to be the Crown Prince's fake fiance'. Great Start for the new series!
I love this new book, the first in a new series! Macey is a computer nerd that works in Sutton Smith's basement. When threats are made on the crown prince of Augustine's life, Macey agrees to pose as his fiancé and help figure out the culprit at well as solve the mystery of his mother's death six months prior. What Macey failed to plan on was falling in love at first sight with the Prince's twin brother, Raymond, the general of the countries army. This sweet clean romance has plenty of suspense to keep my interest!
Sigh! Double sigh! What an incredible start to this series. Ray and Macey are an epic duo all the way through the book. Their first meeting? Squee!!! It was better than double chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven. Seriously, it was sensational. So many side characters were introduced that will be interesting to learn more about. The Wild Child is absolutely adorable and I can’t wait to read more of her escapades in the next books. A clean romantic suspense that I recommend!
Right to the last moment, you won't figure out who the bad guy is. The characters are well written and so lovable as they struggle to protect a royal family and hide their growing feelings for each other. Well written as we expect and always receive from Cami! Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. I can't wait for the next one in this new series.❤️❤️
OH MY GOODNESS - WHAT A SUPERB BOOK She works for.a security company, always behind the scenes. They are contracted to help a King catch whoever murdered his wife . . . And she has to pretend to be the crown princes’ fiancé. Problem is she meets his twin first and feels so drawn to him. This is a super book. Totally loved it!!!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.
This was a perfect book for me this week. It made me smile as I read it. I loved the young sweet princess, the kind king, the strong brotherhood and the way the all treated the young woman that came to help them. Her character was well developed. A mix of smart and strong and vulnerable. I hope there’s a book about her brother. I didn’t want this one to end. It was a sweet modern fairytale with some suspense and a strong heroine who lives well.
This is an incredible book. It is fun, flirty, intense and romantic. It will hold your interest throughout. The characters are well rounded and easily draw you in. Ray and Macey are an absolutely amazing couple that face many challenges. I can’t wait for the rest of the series. I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
I guess I am a sucker for a Medieval romances too.
This is an exciting new series that I love. I am already hooked on princes and princesses, who would have thought this about me. Ray and Macey were polar opposites in upbringing but matched in everything else. You will love the romance and suspense in this book. I highly recommend this book. Can hardly wait for the next book.
Wow, what a great start to a new series: a fake romance, a real romance, a mystery, danger, intrigue and the promise of more stories to come. I know I can count on Cami Checketts to bring me a story that I shouldn’t start late in the evening, but I did anyway. Who needs sleep? I loved this book and that we are still tied to characters we already know. Macey deserves her own prince.
I love that this was their mantra. It was repeated when she was feeling down, scared or unworthy. He was a constantly strong and devoted to her and he would do anything for her, his family, and his country. It was a wonderful book with love. Be careful there are more books but they are not out yet!
This is a very interesting and exciting story. Tristen and Ray are identical twins and are princes. Tristen is getting threatening notes and they need professional security help. Macey is brought over from the United States to help out. Now the excitement comes in the story.
This is the story of a young American woman who has become engaged to the Crown Prince. But she meets his twin brother and they fall in love while she is trying to figure out who is trying to get rid of the future king. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
I have yet to read a Cami Checketts book I did not love. I really like the appearance of characters from other series that sometime show up in New stories. Unforgettable, like Sutton Smith, Liz, etc. Thank you for another winner.
I loved this first book of the new series! I read it in one sitting, staying up past my bedtime. I loved seeing Macey and Ray trying to deny their attraction to each other. I can't wait to read the next book.
This book was even better than I had hoped for. Macey is brilliant and beautiful. Ray is the best. Tristan is insightful. Kiera is really a wild child. I didn't like that they didn't solve his mom's murder.
I absolutely loved this book! The suspense and romance kept me hooked from the beginning. Plus add in some rumor and you made it hard to ever put down. Can’t wait to read all the books in the series!
General Prince and the need against all odd survived the fairy tales novel of all time. Adventures and Action-packed romantic story to you ever read read but enjoy everything about this novel.
Wrong Prince Macey fell in love with. What was she going to do? She had to keep Triston safe and their little sister. What was she going to do? Great story. Enjoy.
Ok my favorite character is a bit to small for romance. When you read the book you'll understand. There are so many questions that I need answered, and I know I will have to read the entire series to find them out. I'm ready for it. A sweet read.
It's so.... I was high in heavens in the last chapter when he came to her... Uff 😊😊❤️❤️ Both of their chemistry is amazing... Yup... Don't have any more words than that... Can't describe the feeling...
This book was so fun, cute, romantic. I loved every page turning minute of reading it. The characters were perfect if your in the mood for a light, romantic read.
I certainly enjoyed reading this novel, but had expected closure to the queen's murder/suicide and the curse thing. A wee bit of supernatural element around breaking the curse would have been icing on the cake. Anyway, lemme read the next one in this series.
I really enjoyed this story. This is the story of Ray and Macey and it is a great read. There is action and suspense. There is a fake engagement. Of course there is a sweet love story. Just a fantastic read!
