Good Ol' Boys #4

Kissing Friends

Rate this book
When my best friend unwittingly walks in on me in the shower, our platonic dynamic goes down the drain.

Dan has golden retriever energy.

We’re polar opposites, sunshine and rain.

I should’ve known moving in with him would throw a kink in my plans to be grouchy and alone. He makes me smile way too much.

After getting cheated on by my high school sweetheart last year, I started spiraling, and I almost failed three classes. I will not be falling in love any time soon, not until after I graduate.

I do, however, need a rebound—no strings attached.

(Preferably someone damaged and heartless like me.)

Dan wants to lose his virginity and find a sweet, bubbly girlfriend before graduation, and I signed up to be his wingwoman. It shouldn’t be too hard, considering he’s the golden boy.

Everything was going just fine until that steamy afternoon when I borrowed his shower, he walked in, and now he’ll never be able to look at that removable showerhead the same way again.

Or me.

Kissing Friends is a dual POV, best friends/roommates to lovers, bull rider/cowboy, reverse grumpy x sunshine, opposites attract, forced proximity, male v-card love story with no cheating and a happily-ever-after ending. It is book four in the Good Ol' Boys Series, but can be read as a complete standalone.

All the bull rider & black cat x golden retriever girlies rise! 💙

This is the last book in a series that I’ve really come to love, and I’m so happy that it didn’t disappoint — it literally became my favorite in the series as soon as I finished! It has black cat x golden retriever, fake dating, AND friends to lovers, which are easily some of my all-time favorite tropes. But Dan & Lucy made it even more special in their own way 🫶

After seeing glimpses of Dan & Lucy in other books, I was really curious about them, so it was amazing to get to learn more about them. I absolutely adored their friendship dynamic and loved that they still had that connection even as they transitioned into lovers 👏 My artist x bull rider babies for life!

Lucy was a character that I really just wanted to give a big hug. She’s been through some tough things in her life, and I was constantly hurting for her 🥺 I also related to her a lot as a fellow trust-issues girlie LOL. On the other hand, Dan is the hot cowboy of my dreams. I seriously could not get over how sweet he was with Lucy 😭 Him helping her understand that she deserves love, respect, and to be treated right was everything to me. Plus, the man had lots of unexpected tricks up his sleeve — i.e. I can say with certainty that this is the spiciest book in the series so do with that what you will… 👀

Overall, Dan & Lucy’s story was the perfect close to this series 🥹 I loved how it focused on Lucy’s healing journey alongside the romance. And I really liked that the found family aspect really shone through in this book — I love me a good boy friend group from a small town who all get their own romances 🤌 It felt bittersweet to finish this series, but I am so excited for what’s to come 🤭

Thank you so much to MJ Hendrix for an ARC of this book 💌

Cute, fun read. I loved Lucy and Dan together and how protective he was of her. Chemistry and spice were both great, and I adored how he felt no shame when it came to standing up for her. *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

4/5

This is the fourth book in the 𝑮𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑶𝒍' 𝑩𝒐𝒚𝒔 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔. This is Dan & Lucy’s story.

Lucy moves in with her friend Dan after their roommates end up together. She decides to stay single until she graduates college, after a bad breakup.

Lucy is looking for a no strings attached rebound, and Dan wants to lose his virginity, so she decide to help him out, by being his wing woman. One day Dan walks in on Lucy in the shower, and everything changes between them.

This is such a cute story. I loved the reverse grumpy/sunshine. I want to go read the other books in this series now.

Includes:
- best friends/roommates
- Friends to lovers
- Forced proximity
- Bull rider/ cowboy mmc
- Reverse grumpy/sunshine
- Virgin mmc
- Dual pov
- Spicy
- HEA

Dan is the last man standing of his friends from his home town. The other three friends are paired off with women that they love and here he is still a virgin at the age of 23. He gets friend zone by so many he is beginning to think he has a problem.
Lucy just got out of a really bad relationship which caused her to almost fail three of her courses. She decided she was going to stay single until she graduates from college.
Dan and Lucy are now roommates as their past roommates are together. Dan is happy go lucky always smiling. Lucy is grouchy. He wants to lose his virginity snd I just want a rebound with no strings attached. They decided to help each other find what they want.
MJ did it again with this book. Each of the guys in the “Good Ol’ Boys” series I fell in love with but in every book I always was drawn to Dan. I think Dan is my new book boyfriend.

The good ol boys series has come to an end I couldn’t be happier with how it did.
Lucy has a rough past and trauma that she’s going through and doesn’t believe she’s ready for anything new but little does she know that Dan is already there supporting and loving her in the only way he knows how😩

“We’re a match, Lucy Blake. There’s no denying it. You’re fire, and I’m water, and I love it. You’re everything good that I’m not. You’re everything I want. Everything I need. I can’t imagine my life without you.” 😭😭😭😭

Dan and Lucy were so cute tip toeing around each other harboring secret feelings and I’m so glad they got their happy ending.
Also still not over Dolores wanting him to be her sugar baby 💀

POV: Dual
Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

I hate to see this series end, but it ends on such a good note with Dan and Lucy's story! I've read this series from the beginning, and always looked forward to when the sweet and funny golden retriever Dan would get his girl!

I love a bad girl/good guy story (even though Lucy isn't necessarily a "bad girl), and even better when it is reverse grumpy sunshine, and add in that Dan is a bull rider, this book checked a lot of boxes for me! It also is friends/roommates to lovers. What I love most about this story is how Dan helps Lucy to overcome her trauma. These two are so good together, even if it takes them a while to figure that out! It should also be noted that you shouldn't let the innocent guy thing fool you, because Dan sure knows when to take charge.

I think MJ’s writing has really grown over the course of this debut series, and I love to see how far she's come. As much as I will miss this group of family/friends, I can't wait for whatever she has coming up next!

Each book on this series has been amazing. Each couple is so cute and amazing. Lucy and Dan are next level! Lucy is coming out of a traumatic relationship and wants to get back out there but not in a serious relationship. Dan wants to lose his virginity so they make a pact to help each other out.

The tension between them is there and continues to grow. They are such good friends, and don’t want to jeopardize that. Dan is the perfect man already so in tune with Lucy. You can’t help but root for him the whole time.

Love the cameos from all the characters and are going to miss them.

You know when you're reading something and then you have this feeling of embarassement? There was line that it was supposed to be funny (I think?) but it was so cringe... anyway this book could be better. The plot is friends to lovers one of my favourites but it was meh...

*this book was kindly sent to me by the author (M. J. Hendrix) in exchange for an honest review*

• review in english • (a review in portuguese will be posted soon)

I’ve been a part of M.J. Hendrix’s ARC team since book 1 (“Falling For Temptation”), so reading the last book on this series was bittersweet. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved it (Dan just became my favorite Good Ol’ Boy) but I’m also having a hard time saying goodbye to these wonderful characters. I know I say this every single time, but I’m so grateful to M.J. for trusting me with her work and I’m so proud of everything she’s accomplished.

Lucy and Dan are roommates and best friends. Lucy just got out of a bad relationship and decides to stay single until she graduates but is looking for a no-strings-attached kind of thing and Dan, who’s 23 and a virgin, wants to lose his virginity so they decide to help eachother out and become one another’s wingman / wingwoman. We all know where this is going and I’m here for it.

For all my girlies who love fake dating (one of my favorite tropes!), bull rider / cowboy mmc, grumpy x sunshine THIS BOOK IS THE BOOK. I read it in one day and I have zero regrets. It got me out of a huuuuge reading slump.

As someone who unfortunately went through some of the things Lucy has been through, I just wanted to hug her. I wanted to tell her how strong, how beautiful and how amazing she is. Thankfully, Dan did all of that and we all love him for doing it! Seeing him love her back to loving herself made my heart melt. Lu is such a queen, she deserves all the love! Dan’s vibes are immaculate. He’s such a gentleman BUT ALSO EXCUSE ME DAN WE HAD NO IDEA YOU COULD DO THAT 🥵 YOU GO, KING – yup, I’m talking about the spice.

I’m so happy both Dan and Lucy got their happy ending.

This was the perfect way to end a series. I’m going to miss them all so much but I can’t wait to see what the future holds for M.J. and her books! 🥰

Ok i’m officially dethroning seeing double as my fav (sorry Levi i still love you) this book was SO good!!!!! I inhaled it in one day. i honestly did not vibe with Dan in the last books🫣🫣 but MJ really outdid herself with his book. I loved the tension between Dan and Lucy and i love a good roommates trope😛 Its my first time reading a book where the mmc is a virgin and that was an experience for sure. They had the most amazing chemistry ever + Dan was just such a gentleman, he was really doing the most and he was so fine doing it AND hes a bull rider yeehaw lets go🥵 love me some southern charm💅🏻

Also all i wanted to do this whole book was give Lucy a damn hug. My girl fr deserves a man like Dan😭 for once im not claiming a fictional man for myself i bow down to my queen Lucy🤞🏻 Dan was incredibly patient with her and waited for her which made me bawl in the corner of my room for a sec bc why do these men never exist irl

I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to end this series.

I can not hype this book enough I can tell you this I’m going to be coming back to this story over and over again I loved Dan and Lucy and how protective he was of her but he still let her heal at her own pace he never rushed her because he understood that who she was more important than something physical we all need a Daniel Wesson in our life and I hope to one day be able to find one

There’s something so special about watching someone love a person into loving themselves.

Our heroine Lucy is fresh tout of a traumatic and abusive relationship, in which she was gaslit, cheated on and taken for granted.

Having genuine friendships, and a family who loves her does nothing to remove the stain of unworthiness that’s been drilled into her head from such a pivotal young age by the one person who was supposed to love and care for her.

Her new roommate, Dan, is a stand-up stalwart young ranch hand who works hard, studies hard, rides hard, and does his damnedest to love hard.

Watching his thoughtful pursuit of Lucy was a lesson in patience, and true romance. Convincing her with action, thought, and deed that she was deserving of love and loyalty. It was beautiful.

This couple’s chemistry and friendship made for a sweet and sensual slow burn, and I loved their happily ever after. It was much deserved and so satisfying.

When I tell you I saw the ARC email for this book and RAN, I mean it. I have been dying to hear Dan's story.

Kissing Friends is book#4 in the Good Ol Boys Series. (MJ is also the first romance series I have tried. I’m typically a thriller girly). This was easily my favorite couple through the series.

To start, I am IN LOVE with Dan and Lucy's friendship and how he just wants to protect her. The way they look out for each other and have an amazing friendship before transitioning into lovers made the story that much better. I think we all want a Dan in our lives. A man who just wants to protect us, and wants us to see ourselves from their eyes. Lucy reminded me a lot of myself and so I felt an even deeper connection to her character while reading. I felt like we got to see her beginning stages of hurting and then her healing journey.

This book has some of my favorite tropes - fake dating, friends to lovers, oh and the spice in this book is more than the others in the series.

Not gonna lie, I am going to miss this series but I am super excited for more MJ series. Maybe more of When Summer Ends.

I can't belive we're done with the series, I'm looking forward to all next books, I'm so glad I've been able to experience the growth as a writer from MJ since book one.

Onto the book review haha.

I gotta say I fell hard for Dan, he's such a beautiful soul. I love how he never left Lucy alone, even when she did everything to drive him away, he understood what she had gone through with Brett and love her throughout her pain and healing.

I can't imagine what it must feel like being on Lucy's shoes, and I hope everyone who related too much to her because they've been there, or maybe still are and this book helps or helped them to realize what they're going through, that they get better or are on their way to be, I hope you all find your Dan who'll love you unconditionally.

This book was just beautiful, I loved how it grew from friends to lovers, how Lucy's family got so happy for her and Dan, and saw how good Dan was for her.

Reverse grumpy sunshine, friends to lovers, bullrider/cowboy, virgin MMC romance

This book was super cute. It was nice to switch it up with the reverse grumpy sunshine and virgin MMC. That definitely gave it extra points in my book. I really liked the characters and their dynamic together. The spicy scenes were also quite good🌶️ Definitely worth the read!

Tropes
Friends to lovers
Cowboy / bull rider x artist
Reverse grumpy sunshine
V MMC
FWB to lovers
Sweet golden retriever MMC / Black cat FMC

I love a cowboy romance and bull riders so I had high hopes and expectations for this. It didn’t love it like I had hoped though unfortunately.
I loved Dan! He was so sweet, caring, passionate, attentive, protective, and had major golden retriever energy. He had his moments where he was really cute/innocent and then others when he gave major “daddy” energy. He had me silently screaming at my phone when he said things like “baby girl / baby / you’re mine / she’s mine / sweetheart”, gave Lucy forehead kisses, and walked around shirtless in the grey sweat pants! His love declarations were so cute and Lucy was truly to have him.
For majority of the book however, I didn’t care for Lucy. I didn’t like how she played with him and his feelings. She would flirt with him and then turn around and friend zone him. She knew he liked her more than just a friend and then she would continue to push him to get with Billie or someone else and that was annoying. I really didn’t like how she handles the Brett situation. Instead of shutting him down once and for all when he cornered her the first time at her sisters wedding, she just stood there letting him touch her and talk how he was talking.. and then said they could talk later smh. Then when he approached her again she still didn’t do anything. Just stood there and let him touch all over her, and talk to her how he was talking. It wasn’t until Dan came out and saw them did she push him away. I was over her as a character for good at that point smh.
The 3 stars I gave in this rating are for Dan and Dan alone. He was perfect

After having read previous installments in this series I was so glad that we were getting more! From the moment this fourth book was announced I knew I had to read it. I picked it up and got right back into the Good Ol' Boys world! I so enjoyed this story!

Lucy and Dan's journey captured my attention so quickly! These two are best friends as well as roommates. Lucy is moving forward and focusing on school after getting her heart broken. Dan is a bull rider who wants to get rid of his V card. Lucy wants to help Dan find the one for him. A moment can change everything though. Can Lucy take a chance on Dan and open her heart again? and will Dan see that the one for him could be Lucy?

Right from the start both Lucy and Dan pulled me in! I loved how relatable these two were and the fact that not only were they best friends, but roommates as well. I enjoyed getting to see how these two tackle everything and how things would play out for them in the process. The friendship and chemistry that Lucy and Dan shared was so great! These two had me feeling so many things with them throughout!

Sometimes the person that's meant for you can surprise you by being the one that's been there through everything, which showed through Dan and Lucy's journey!

I was so glad to be back in the Good Ol' Boys world!

With Kissing Friends, Ms.Hendrix has created such a good friends to lovers story that brought the heart, steam, and feels that kept me turning the pages! I can't wait to read what she brings our way next! Check out this series if you haven't already. 💙

I am so sad to see this series end, no one will ever do good boys like MJ <3

In this one we finally get to see Dan and Lucy. Dan is the last of his friends to be single and he decides that he is ready to lose his virginity, and Lucy who is working through a traumatic relationship ending wants something with no strings....so they make a pact.

Dan and Lucy are roommates so we get alll the tension between them. Their chemistry was so good, you could tell from the first page how much they cared about each other. The whole book I just wanted to give Lucy the biggest hug. I loved seeing Dan try to help Lucy overcome her trauma, it was nice seeing him pick up on her cues for how he should handle situations instead of steamroll her. Seeing their relationship develop was my favourite, they were so in tune.

Now although Dan could be the sweetest, he was also a bull riding, dirty talking, taking charge kinda guy under that good guy exterior ;)

I loved their HEA, it was so deserved on both sides, being able to have that trust and love in a relationship is all you can hope for in the end. I am sad this series is over but I am so excited to see what MJ has up her sleeve next <3

Heres what to expect:
💙 male virgin
💙 black cat x golden retriever
💙 college setting
💙 bull rider hero + artist fmc
💙 forced proximity / roommates
💙 best friends to lovers
💙 no third act breakup <3

Book Title: Kissing Friends
Author: MJ Hendrix
Series: Good Ol' Boys Series
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice Rate: 🌶🌶🌶🌶

Review:
Kissing Friends is the fourth and last book in the Good Ol' Boys series of MJ Hendrix. If you're looking for a Reverse Grumpy x Sunshine, Artist x Bull Rider, and Friends to Lovers trope, then definitely Dan and Lucy's story is what you need to add to your TBR.

While reading the book, I can't stop grinning and smiling at the characters' dynamics. Dan's characteristics are so ideal that they add to my (seriously) high standards. This book will join my 2024 Absolute Book Faves and Dan is one of my book boyfriends of the month. He's 😙🤌🏼 , a literal perfection. I love how patient he is with the love of his life, Lucy, who's in deep trauma and the healing process. If I want assurance, I would love to have what Dan has. This emphasizes the value of patience and the importance of one's healing and I am happy that the characters made me realize that.

All in all, I could repeat this over and over again but I AM HIGHLY RECOMMENDING FOR YOU TO READ THE ENTIRE SERIES TO ANYONE.

Ohhhh @mjhendrixauthor the way I love this series so much 🫶🏼 you wrapped up the Good Ol’ Boys perfectly with Dan 🩵

I am a sucker for friends to lovers and these two obsessed and moving as a unit together and not realizing it was so sweet to watch. Add in Dan’s protective, possessive and dirty talking ways…and you had me sold easily.

Lucy…all of these girls have been so strong and beautiful and each their own and I love them for it. I wanted to protect her and was so proud of her at the same time.

I will probably never recover from this series and I am 100% okay with that 🫶🏼

If you haven’t yet - add this series to your TBR:

🧡 Seeing Double

Kissing Friends
MJ Hendrix

🤍Virgin MMC
🖤Friends/roommates to lovers
🤍Past trauma (FMC)
🖤Reverse grumpy x sunshine

Dan and Lucy are roommates - Lucy is getting over a traumatic breakup and relationship while Dan is trying to loose his V card by the end of the year. They make a deal to help each other. After Dan walks in on a seamy moment Lucy is having alone in the shower… feelings start to change for them both.

This was a cute story about healing, love, romance, and friendship. I enjoyed the story and the characters. I was expecting more deliberate healing for Lucy - it felt very “I’m ok since it’s Dan” and not “I’m ok because I’m ok” and I felt like that was hard to get over. I wish they had not told each other the opposite of what they wanted in their partner when having the conversation, it just put the wrong expectations on them both. Overall, I enjoyed the book but for the plot line I felt it was a little drawn out. As always, check for any TW’s and happy reading!

Very mixed review of this one. While I enjoyed the friends to lovers arc, the miscommunication level was infuriating in this one. I enjoyed the FMC's story, even though it was filled with an abusive ex and included detailed descriptions of very realistic situations and her reactions to them after the fact, the growth and recovery are there as well, and not *as a result of* the MMC but with him supporting her through her own healing. The MMC's story was a little far fetched for me because there is so much history revealed in the first 3 books, and NONE of it talks about his main plot point. Also there was some weirdness at the end - was it intended to be a hook into the next book (if there is one, I may never know)? The spiciness was very much more there this book, less of a slow burn and more into smut territory by the end!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 omg I finished it the whole series. I’m a little sad. I loved this series so much. Each time I say img that was my favourite but I think I just love all of them so much. I connected with each of the girl and the guys so much.

But omg let me just say thank god Danny, the last one standing you did it. Thank god, I knew what this book was gonna be about from the last book, by omg was a still so in love.

“I’m just wondering so I can mentally fucking prepare myself to continue falling deeper in love with you while you intentionally become more and more oblivious to it.”
Mr Danny was falling hard

I’m so in love with their love. Lucy and Danny you melted my heart.

I’m so sad there’s no more

the description made it seem like the shower incident was the beginning of the story. it wasn't. there were things that happened before and it didn't even seem like the shower incident is what really set the story off. its assumed their relationship is platonic before the shower thing but in my opinion it definitely isn't. it's also a slow burn i think.

spice was like a 2/5 for me. so much potential for spice because the author doesn't shy away and has the ability to make something filthy. granted this was my first book by them so I'm unsure how spicy their other works are.
overall it's a solid 3.
