THE BABY INHERITANCE is such a sweet story and is a wonderful set up for what promises to be an enjoyable series. I’m so excited to read the next story in the Lazy M series. This is a very touching and heartwarming story about what happens when two completely opposite individuals learn they are going to share guardianship of a six-month old baby. Drew and Sadie must come up with a plan for raising baby Mae. They decide to write down their pros and cons and both come up with such different points. Its very funny how two complete opposites view their situation.
THE BABY INHERITANCE pulled at my heart strings and made me smile as Tina Radcliffe always does. Drew is just adorable, but it’s a little harder to like Sadie, as she’s all about advancing her career at first. But, when she’s around Drew, her true self comes out and she’s very likable and perfect for Drew, they just don’t realize it until later on. Will it be too late? Its very funny how Sadie has zero experience with children so she runs to books of course, to learn all she can. Drew tries not to laugh because he knows you learn more with hands on experience than from a book.
THE BABY INHERITANCE is without a doubt the sweetest book I’ve read in 2024 so far. I was instantly emotionally invested in all of the characters. Mostly, they all kept me laughing but the banter between Drew and Sadie is hysterical. Tina Radcliffe is such a wonderful and heart tugging author and she had me laughing and crying on the very same page. I am now going to read all of her previous books and she has made a new fan forever! THE BABY INHERITANCE is warm, fun and lovely. If you enjoy romances, you’ll enjoy this story. Grab your copy today and get on the couch!
Tina Radcliffe always writes great stories that are full of faith, sweet romance, and humor. Her families are ones that you can’t help loving and they always live in the best towns! She draws me in from the first page and I usually end up reading them in just a sitting or two. And did I mention her hero’s?! They are always amazing!
Drew and Sadie are complete opposites, yet they are so perfect for each other! Sadie is a by the book professor and when I say by the book, I’m mean she believes in book learning basically everything. Drew is completely laid back and easy going and I absolutely loved him! I really enjoyed watching them come to depend on each other and I loved their commitment to baby Mae. The epilogue was the best!
The Baby Inheritance is book one of the Lazy M Ranch series and after reading it, I am so ready for the rest of the stories in this series! I loved getting to know the two main characters, Sam and Olivia, that will be featured in book 2, The Cowboy Bargain.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The faith thread is light. 5 stars!
I loved this book and couldn't put it down. The characters were wonderful. I found myself trying to decide who I thought would be the best guardian for the baby. I enjoyed seeing how the characters dealt with this total change in their lives and the decisions they made. I received an ARC of this book from the author with no requirement of a review. All opinions are my own.
This story charmed me! Sweet baby Mae steals the story from the first chapter and seeing Drew and Sadie dance around forever as they try to figure out what is best for Mae is quite entertaining. The relationship between Drew and Sadie is natural as it grows and they get to know each other. It’s a sweet and easy read and I enjoyed it. Can’t wait for more stories with the Lazy M Ranch and Drew’s brothers! I also liked the shoutout to Tina’s earlier series with the Rainbolt family. That was a fun cameo!
I received a copy of this book from the author and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
With her trademark wit and charm, Tina Radcliffe once again tells and engaging story of love and loss in The Baby Inheritance. 5 stars!
Drew and Sadie are polar opposites but tied together as guardians to their deceased friends sweet baby girl, Mae. She's a by the book research queen literature professor, and he's a hands on, easy going rancher. It was interesting to watch as they used their conflicting problem-solving styles to take care of an infant while having zero experience.
I enjoyed that Sadie at thirty-six and Drew at forty were older and established in their careers yet had to make difficult lifechanging decisions for the wellbeing of Mae. Gramps was an outspoken honest to the core character that kept Drew grounded. Housekeeper and cook, Bess was a solid rock for all the Morgan clan on the Lazy M Ranch, and took Sadie under her wing, too. The recipes and food talk will inspire the taste buds, especially the cinnamon rolls.
I loved how the story delved into foster care and medical issues while dealing with real life struggles of self-esteem and commitment. The epilogue was fantastic, and I have the data to prove it. Inside joke that readers will discover along the way.
I can't wait for a return visit to Homestead Pass, Oklahoma. In The Cowboy Bargain, releasing in August, readers will discover what happened between jilted Sam Morgan and his runaway bride, Olivia. I appreciate the author making a copy of The Baby Inheritance available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.
I enjoyed this new book, the first in a series set at the Lazy M Ranch, by Tina Radcliffe! Drew and Sadie, country boy and city girl, are thrust into parenthood after the unexpected loss of their best friends. But how will they make it all work out? 5 stars!!
Drew and Sadie lose their best friends who entrust the care of their baby to them. Drew lives on the Lazy M Ranch in OK (big draw for me since I live I OK) with his grandfather and brothers. Sadie lives in Tulsa and was a foster child. The story follows the two as they work together to care for baby Mae, who just sounds adorable, and decide what is best for the baby and who is best prepared to be her guardian. Faith plays a big part in the story and in decisions they make. A few times I felt like hitting them both upside the head, but Grandpa took care of that for Drew. This book made me laugh and cry. It was unfortunate the crying part was near the end while I was flying and was fighting tears, so people didn’t look at me oddly. I look forward to reading the other Lazy M Ranch stories. I voluntarily read an advance copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A heartwarming winner…full of sweet romance, a sweet baby and sweet treats! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tina Radcliffe is a favorite author, and her newest book, The Baby Inheritance, is another heartwarming winner full of sweet romance, a sweet baby and sweet treats!
Self-sufficient college professor, Dr. Sadie Ross, grew up in foster care and has no family, only focusing on her career. Cowboy Drew Morgan, received an architectural degree, but manages his family’s ranch along with a passel full of brothers and Gramps. When these two opposite personalities must decide on the guardianship of a baby with medical issues, many emotions are involved. Who is the best choice to raise this sweet baby girl?
The struggles of adjusting to their new roles as baby caretakers, on top of wanting to make the best decision for baby Mae, are heart-touching as both Sadie and Drew want to honor their friends’ legacy. The choices are very different, with pros and cons to be considered. Selflessly they work through the process as the attraction between them grows.
The Baby Inheritance is the first book in a new series featuring the brothers of the Lazy M Ranch. Author Tina Radcliffe knows how to write strong family stories with engaging true-to-life characters as she adds fun humor, touches of faith and perfect romance…plus a sprinkling of yummy treats featured on the pages. (Yes, I’m a foodie who loves the mention of virtual goodies!)
If you love heartfelt stories of overcoming challenges with faith and hope, this is a not-to-be-missed set of books! I’m already anticipating the upcoming romances of these cowboy brothers and the women who will come to love them.
Favorite quotes: “The satisfaction of parenting comes at unexpected and cherished moments. While there are many blessings, there are also many challenges.” “You have to choose to have a happy ending.”
*I received a copy of this book with no requirement to write a review. I’m delighted to offer my honest opinion.
I just finished this first book of a new series and I want more visits to the Lazy M Ranch in Homestead Pass, Oklahoma. I need more time with the fabulous Morgan men! Drew Morgan and his Grandpa Gus are the two primary male characters in The Baby Inheritance but there are four more brothers waiting in the wings. Throw in a warm, loving housekeeper, a young woman who's never known the joy of being part of a family, and a precious little girl needing a permanent home, and you have a story worthy of a Hallmark movie!
The Baby Inheritance is a unique contemporary romance with awesome characters and a wonderful faith theme woven into its plot. There's also a peek at Sam and Olivia's story that makes me eager to return to the Lazy M Ranch in Oklahoma! Kudos to author Tina Radcliffe!!
I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
"Did your mother drop you on your head when you were a baby?" Gramps is a firecracker! But can his wisdom and guidance help Drew overcome his fears? "I love you." Words Sadie never heard from her mom. Can Bess' declaration help heal Sadie from a lifetime and feeling rejected?
When Drew and Sadie, two completely different people with completely different backgrounds, are forced together to care for the orphaned baby of their very dear friends, life gets real and hard. Can Bess and Gramps provide enough wisdom to help the youngsters navigate the chaos and each other? Or will this sweet baby go to a new family entirely?
I received an ARC of this book from the author. I received nothing in exchange and my review is my own opinion.
I highly recommend this story for lovers of Christian fiction, contemporary fiction, and a HEA!
“The Baby Inheritance” by Tina Radcliffe is the first book in the Lazy M Ranch series.
Drew Morgan and Sadie Ross are guardians for their friends’ baby, but they have to decide which one of them will become permanent. Drew is a sweet and thoughtful hero and faces adversity with calm rationale while Sadie, confident in some aspects of her life, is unsure and fearful with this change in her controlled life. They both think the other is the better choice to care for the baby and have to face their fears of their pasts to be able to decide their future.
“The Baby Inheritance” has family wisdom, doses of humor and a lot of heart.
Thank you in advance to the author, Tina Radcliffe, for providing a complimentary review copy. A positive review was not required, and all words are my own.
In advance – I do apologize for getting to this book rather late. I had a few medical setbacks and scares. Some have blindsided me and I really didn’t know how to handle it (still don’t). But, one thing that got me through – reading. And, of course any books with babies are bound to make one smile. How could I be sad with that little cherub on the cover?
The Baby Inheritance is the first book in Radcliffe’s Lazy M Ranch series, though it’s hardly the author’s first book. I’ve read her previous series – Hearts of Oklahoma (4 books), as well as her Love Inspired Suspense debut, Sabotaged Mission. I have her Big Hearts Ranch on my never-ending TBR – which is a good thing.
This story, and the series itself, has a fascinating beginning. It evolved from a note card with a picture of the silhouette of six cowboys facing a corral. Isn’t it interesting how just a picture can develop into a story or more than one story? And, I’d be interested in the origins of the photo as well – what is its story?
That said …
Radcliffe does a wonderful job of establishing the characters readers will get to know in this book, and likely the next few books. Book #2, The Cowboy Bargain (Sam’s story), is also out – released on August 22, 2023. Book #3, The Cowboy’s Secret Past, is set to be released at the end of February, which will be Trevor’s story. There is Lucas’ story to tell (perhaps book #4), and an unknown cowboy as well.
So, readers – once you read this one – you’ll likely need to keep reading them. Those who’ve read the author’s previous series will see a slight “nod” to it in this one, courtesy of Eagle Donuts in Rebel.
Even after this first visit, you’ll want to visit Homestead Pass, a town that truly feels like home with characters that will become like friends and family you’ll want to check in with:
👨🏻🦳 Gus Morgan (grandfather) 🏡 Andrew “Drew” Morgan 📒 Sam Morgan 🐎 Trevor Morgan 🐎 Lucas Morgan 🍪 Bess Lowder (runs the household and cooks) 👩🏻💻 Sadie Ross (Delia’s friend) 👩🏻💻 Leah Telfer (Sadie’s boss) 🎀 Mae Anne Franklin (6 months old, lost her parents Jase and Delia 5 months earlier) 🥗 Olivia “Liv” Moretti
Most stories, no matter how clean or sweet they are – they can have “troublesome” storylines or character backgrounds that can be upsetting to certain readers.
There is a mention of two car accidents killing parents, one stemming from a DUI (not the parents, the other driver). Foster care also plays a theme in this as Delia and Sadie met in the system. Those who’ve had similar and/or bad experiences with foster care, might be triggered by this. Sadie was also abandoned as an orphan.
Radcliffe opens with Drew getting a call from his grandfather about a lawyer in town who called for Drew. I had to laugh at Gus who asked “You got an issue needing a lawyer, son?”. And, right out of the shoot – Gus is my favorite of the Morgan fellers.
Because of a car accident that killed his friend Jase, along with Jase’s wife (Delia), they left behind a baby – six (6) month old Mae Anne.
Five months after the accident, an attorney reaches out because of the will. In it, the couple named Drew and Sophie as guardians for their daughter. Mae Anne has been with her grandmother, but the woman’s health is declining and she needs to relinquish custody to them. But, since they’re not married, she can only go to one of them.
There is a stipulation – if neither of them want Sadie, she goes into foster care. That is a RED FLAG no from Sadie. Drew is JUST as shocked as Sadie. Though which of them is to be Mae’s guardian is undetermined. Though, he does think Mae would be better off in Homestead Pass as opposed to Tulsa. Sadie just knows she owes it to her friend to do the right thing when it comes to Mae.
The problem is – neither of them have much experience being parents. Drew is more of a hands-on learner; Sophie is the true academic – buying books to learn. Drew wants to live life instead of read about it.
Since they have to take custody that day, they have no idea who to choose. Drew knows Jase chose Homestead Pass to raise his daughter, but Sadie lives and works in Tulsa. The temporary solution is the Lazy M Ranch which Drew manages. He and his three brothers live there with grandfather Gus. They’re lucky enough to have a good housekeeper and cook – Bess (she’s a hoot).
Right off, Drew seems more intuitive, where Sophie feels inadequate. She just doesn’t want the baby in foster care where she was and aged out. Sadly, a common occurrence which I call “Happy Birthday, Hit the Road”. However, Sophie wants time to study to make a decision. There’s also the slight problem of Mae’s cardiologist appointment to evaluate a heart defect.
Like Mae, the Morgan boys lost their parents in a car accident. Drew believes in happy endings, which he sees more as a choice. But, figures they’ll take it a step at a time. And, Bess is there to help as well.
Worried about her job, Sadie learns she can take 8 weeks of leave for the placement. She doesn’t want to though. Still, she can’t think past the appointment which she views as the “deadline” and deciding factor.
The longer she’s on the ranch, the more Sadie sees the difference between Drew’s life and her own. It’s a life she would’ve wanted to grow up with. Still, she has her own life and proud of what she’s accomplished.
There is much for both to consider, but more on Sadie’s side – childcare, her small apartment, and the lack of family – all of which Mae would have with Drew.
Bess takes an immediate like to and interest in Sadie. Even taking her shopping and guiding her. It is on a trip to town that Sadie meets Olivia “Liv” Moretti (page 97; 46%). This sets up Liv’s storyline for book #2. It is Liv who becomes Sadie’s first friend there in Homestead Pass.
It is when Drew and Sadie are forced to make the decision that they look at the pros and cons of where Mae should be that takes them beyond book smarts, hands on experience, and leads them to what God may have planned for them; including a strange dog who has decided to call the ranch home.
Tragic, sweet, and inspiring; this was a delightful “day” read. I read about 57 pages in 45 minutes, and finished the book in about six (6) hours. Despite the tragic back story, this was an easy read that didn’t lag. It was perfectly paced so it didn’t rush either. Like most books of the line, it went right into the main story from the first page. This is one of those forced proximity, slow-burn types of romance. It’s not so slow readers lose interest though, but it isn’t rushed into either.
There were a few “one-time” characters I liked and hope to see again down the road. The first was Sadie’s boss – Leah. Honestly, in the beginning, I liked her a LOT more than I liked Sadie. The second was Dr. Lakhno who treated Mae’s fever. The woman was a sheer delight for the short time she was in it. I wouldn’t mind seeing her back again, perhaps as part of the Morgan family’s story?
By saying I liked Leah more, that’s not to say I didn’t like Sadie. But, she was someone I needed more time to warm up to. Then again, I sort of understood Sadie’s “issues” which made her the way she was. Not having had a dad in my life since I was 4, I can relate to the parental abandonment part. And, if left unresolved, it can lead to a myriad of problems – self-doubt; along with issues of abandonment, trust, and self-worth.
There is a moment when Drew loans Sadie a vest and she remarks about using having hand-me-downs in a long time. Kids in the foster system, and even poor kids, have likely had a lot of hand-me-downs. So, I could understand wanting brand new and the “best” of something – that “self-worth” deal. I can’t say I relate to not liking them, because at least I had clothes to wear – some were fashionable, and some were down-right adorable. And, as Drew points out – hand-me-downs were upcycling before it was cool and hip.
Sweet side story, I was about 2-3-years-old and got the CUTEST red gingham dress from a cousin. Even though it was TOO big for me, I LOVED it and wore it out! About 30+ years later, I and the cousin who’d owned the dress talked about it. She was hoping I’d love it and enjoyed seeing a picture of me in it. (See my blog here: https://readingexcursions.blogspot.co... for a picture).
Sadie wasn’t the worst character – that went to another person.
There is an incident, around the time of a major medical issue, where the lawyer wants a decision from them. I thought the timing was tacky and could’ve been handled better. I get why the person thought they had to ask, but the timing was tacky.
In regards to making a decision; I love how they both didn’t assume they were the best guardian right off. They were both looking at themselves; their strengths and weaknesses; their jobs (which affects childcare); living arrangements – things that mattered, even over their promises – things that would influence the type of environment Mae would grow up in.
Though, I have to say – a ranch to learn skills on, multiple uncles, family history, room to roam, a housekeeper and GREAT cook (5 days a week), strong cowboy father, and animals – uh, I’d be hard-pressed to NOT choose Drew 🥰😘😂
With that said …
After reading about Bess’ cooking (and I’d advised eating prior to reading this), I was having a craving for fried chicken and cinnamon rolls. Going to have to wait until Thanksgiving for that! No money this month!! 😞😂
While this is the Christian line from Harlequin, there are only subtle references to God and faith. It doesn’t come off as proselytizing in any way. It is more of subtle tones as opposed to overt.
Fans of the author won’t want to miss this, in fact, I hope they’ve already read it, or it’s on their TBR list. Since I’ve already read book #2, I’m ABSOLUTELY looking forward to the third book. Those who love a sweet cowboy read – I’d definitely recommend this!
Sometimes the publisher description of a book doesn’t do justice to just how good the book really is, and I think that’s the case with this book. Author Tina Radcliffe has done a great job in giving us a compelling storyline with characters who care deeply about making the right decisions for their best friends’ orphaned child. I liked the fact that there’s really not a conflict between Sadie and Drew. They work together with the baby’s future the main issue, even though for one of them it means making major decisions and career changes in the future. But as they made this decision together, they learned more about defining their own individual goals for life. Drew and Sadie were both willing to be unselfish and completely involved in the baby’s life.
As always with Love Inspired fiction, the story is clean, sweet, and has a theme of faith that runs throughout the whole story. This is a well-written story, and I’m looking forward to following the rest of this series.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I adore a good Tina Radcliffe book. And spoiler alert, that's all of them. She writes such sweet, inspirational, heart warming romance that is just makes you feel good. Even when the book touches on harder subjects, like the loss of friends/family as is discussed in The Baby Inheritance, you still know you're going to get an ending that really makes you smile. I love how Drew and Sadie really balance each other out as their approaches to an emergency parenting situation differ slightly. However, they still also show they are able to make a great team working together. The whole time you find yourself rooting for them to figure out a way to raise Mae together.
*Please note I read this book while experiencing a huge overpowering reading slump. If not for this slump, I feel like I would have so many more great things to say as I feel this review is lacking my usual enthusiasm for a good book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I'm leaving an honest and voluntary review.
Wow, A beautifully written love story that is compelling capativing from beginning to end. The quality of the characters and powerful storyline were fully developed and phenomenal.
Both Drew Morgan and Sadie Ross were created with an incredible depth of overflowing love and unconditionally supportive from the Morgan family: Sam, Lucas, Trevor, Grandpa Gus and Bess, even Cooper, the dog.
I found myself very emotional attached to this book since I have a pacemaker and heart disease. This stories had me experiencing excitement, sadness, compassionate, and humor.
Drew Morgan and Sadie Ross are unexpectedly brought together when their best friends are killed in an accident leaving a 6 month old baby to be raised by one of them. Drew lives on and operates a large ranch while Sadie is a professor living in the city. Each comes to love baby Mae and it won’t be an easy choice for either of them to relinquish their guardianship.
I liked the opposites attract story and how Drew and Sadie are described as peanut butter and jelly. Drew is easy going and is more flexible since every day on the ranch brings something new. Sadie likes to have a schedule, reads self-help books so she can be prepared, and doesn’t like surprises. Watching them appreciate the strength of the other person and grow to care for one another was what I loved about the book.
The supporting characters of Gramps and Bess were a great addition to the story. Their wisdom and frankness helped both Drew and Sadie when they needed a little push. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to readers of all ages. I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.
I was given a copy of the book. A positive review was not required and all opinions are my own.
The Baby Inheritance is a sweet story and is a good set up for what promises to be an enjoyable series. When Drew and Sadie both end up as potential guardians for baby Mae, the daughter of their late best friends, they are thrown into a situation that neither had anticipated. I liked that Drew was forty and that Sadie was thirty-six. Their lives were very different from each others and they both were successful in what they did.
I appreciated that Drew and Sadie worked together to learn how to take care of Mae and decide what the best living situation would be for her. They could have bickered or been stubborn in their opinions, yet they exhibited the willingness to try to look out for Mae’s best interests.
I enjoyed seeing Drew and Sadie bond with Mae, and with each other, for that matter. This was definitely a slow burn romance that developed into a friendship and partnership first. These two characters really hadn’t been in love before, so it did take them both some time to realize what they were feeling. I loved the epilogue! It was wonderful!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I loved this modern cowboy romance! The story is full of faith, learning to live on a ranch, and in being willing to change plans when God throws a curveball at you. Drew and Sadie, complete opposites in careers, upbringing, and in life expectations, have to come together to save their respective best friend’s baby daughter from entering foster care after her parent’s untimely death.
The author did a great job in addressing foster care, partnership, learning to cook, and learning to care for a baby in her book. All in all a 5 star read for me!
Thank you to the author for the advance copy of the book. All opinions are my own.
My Rating Calculation: Hook: 8 Writing: 8 Format: 8 Plot and character development: 6 Content: 8
I’ve said before and I’ll say again: there is so much joy in starting a new series, and that sentiment remains with The Baby Inheritance, author Tina Radcliffe’s introduction to the Lazy M Ranch series. Drew Morgan, the eldest of four sons, runs the ranch with his grandfather and brothers. Drew’s folks died when he was finishing up college, so he put his dreams on hold to come home and run the ranch. Sadie Ross is a college professor from 3 hours away in Tulsa. Because of her painful past, she NEEDS to feel prepared for anything and everything. Nothing in her life is done without fastidious book research. Drew’s best friend, Jase Franklin, and Sadie’s best friend, Jase’s wife Delia, tragically lost their lives, leaving behind sweet six-month old Mae. Drew and Sadie are each named guardians and have to figure out which one will remain primary guardian. Can these polar opposites work together to make the right decision for Mae? There’s a line in the book that says, “Two singles do not a pair make”. But what if maybe, just maybe, the Lord has other plans? I’ll be waiting rather impatiently for books two, three, and four, and I know you will, too! I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.
This is a story of Drew and Sadie that are put together after a tragic loss of their best friends, whom had a baby. This book will make you tear up, smile, laugh, give you hope, heartfelt moments, taking chances, and characters you will fall in love with! Author Tina Radcliffe has a way of writing that captures very emotion and never disappoints with page turning story from the beginning to end!
THE BABY INHERITANCE by Tina Radcliffe is the fabulously written, heart tugging story of Drew Morgan and Sadie Ross – complete opposites thrown together when named guardians of sweet, innocent six-month-old Mae Anne Franklin.
Drew is the manager of Lazy M Ranch – the ranch his father bought years before. Although he graduated college with thoughts of becoming an architecture, the sudden death of his parents had Drew returning home to Homestead Pass, Oklahoma to follow in his father’s footsteps along side his three brothers and his grandfather, Gus, to keep the ranch running to fulfill his father’s dream. Although at the time he didn’t see it that way, now it’s an occupation in which he couldn’t see himself doing anything else. Manage a large ranch, see to the cattle and see over a big crew - he can do that and does it very well. However, romance or having a meaningful relationship seemed to have avoided him. After a few horrible mishaps in that direction, he’s content to be a bachelor and leaves the chasing after women or the idea of romance to his brothers. The one great downside to his life was the death of his one great friend - Jase, who died all to young and leaving a great whole in his life.
Sadie has an apartment in Tulsa and a job doing what she loves – being a college professor teaching literature. She’s just about to get her tenure and she’s even been submitted for a very prestigious award. Her whole life consists of going to work, grabbing a bite to eat and working evenings preparing for the next day. She believes if you read up on a subject teaching yourself that there’s nothing you can’t accomplish. It was the school of hard knocks that taught her that. Sadie’s bringing up years weren’t easy at all, but Delia had always been her safe spot to fall – the one that always had her back. She had always the one constant in her life. They had grown up in the foster care system and eventually at a group home. Now her best friend is dead leaving an unsurmountable void in her life. When Drew and Sadie were called to the lawyer’s office, each had no idea why they were there and greatly surprised to see the other there as well. After Jase and Delia’s sudden death, their infant child, Mae, was cared for by her grandmother, Helen Franklin, but severe health issues leave her no choice but relinquish that care to another. As godparents, Drew and Sadie where the logical choice. However, since they aren’t married, they have to choose which one will be considered for permanent primary guardian in order to complete the application process.
Two single people with jobs that definitely aren’t really designed with children in mind – meaning their work demands a lot of their time at any time of the day or night either by choice or demand. They seem to be opposites in everything. Drew is more of a hands-on person learning from experiences while Sadie is more of use books for research and learning all you can before you even start. At 40 and 36, are they too set in their ways to change? Each loved one of Mae’s parents and would do anything for them, but could they do this? Who is the best choice? The only thing they can agree on is that Mae is not going into the foster care system. Can they make a life changing decision and decide the who, what and where would be in the best interest for Mae? Can being together constantly learning how to care for Mae and learning more about the other person have opinions changing? Can Bess, the housekeeper and ranch cook, teach Sadie a thing or two as they become dear friends? Is it really possible for either Drew or Sadie to think of having a “normal” family life? Will Mae find her forever home?
THE BABY INHERITANCE is an exceptional book that will have you loving the characters, yearning for the country life of the Lazy M Ranch, and have you desiring the close-knit community of Homestead Pass all while tugging on your heart for poor Mae as she has her own health issues and how her sweet innocence shows two adults that love is all it takes. In the first book in the Lazy M Ranch series, Tina Radcliffe gives us a story that is not only uplifting, romantic and woven with a wonderful thread of faith, but a book that’s a sheer joy to read from beginning to end. It will have your full of happiness on the last page and already waiting with great anticipation the next book in the series. THE BABY INHERITANCE is most definitely a FIVE STAR book that I highly recommend to everyone!
I received an ARC of THE BABY INHERITANCE, but was not asked or expected to write a review. All opinions are completely my own.
Tina Radcliffe made me cry. There was this one part towards the end where Sadie’s situation, and her inner thoughts, well, they just hit me hard and I blubbered like a baby. Luckily Gramps gave Drew a good talking to and that crisis moment didn’t last long, but, phew, I felt every pang in the duration.
So much to love about this new Radcliffe release! Like it’s the first in a series and Drew has a bunch of cowboy brothers so I’m thinking they are going to find themselves on their own happily-ever-after journey. Yeehaw!!!
Also, the secondary characters!!! This author somehow makes them come alive in the same way she does her hero and heroine, even though they don’t have the same amount of page time. When they do though, wow, it makes an impact. Laughter and tears and warm fuzzies galore. Gus (Gramps) and Bess (housekeeper) are two of my favourites and I’m looking forward to meeting up with them in future books.
This is kind of a forced proximity romance because Sadie temporarily moves to the ranch while she and Drew figure out the guardianship details for little Mae. So they are pushed together as they care for the infant and the two couldn’t be more different!
Drew’s pretty easy going ’cause caring for calves gives him an edge, right? Snort! Sadie is totally freaked out with zero childcare experience of any kind. And she’s a list making, book researching organizer which definitely clashes with Drew’s laid back attitude. Lots of fun watching them work together, learning to compromise and discovering an unexpected attraction that seems doomed from the start. Because Sadie is a college professor in Tulsa and Drew is a small-town rancher.
All kinds of awesomesauce from start to finish. The kind of romance that leaves you basking in the warmth of bibliophile delight with a silly grin on your face.
When two polar opposites are tasked with working together for the sake of a sweet baby girl, you can only guess what the result will be. However, you really can't guess. The way author Tina Radcliffe weaves the story is so full of surprises and great moments that it will completely keep you guessing.
I absolutely loved Sadie and Drew's story. My heart went out to them the minute they took on baby Mae and the challenges it involved. Their journey was at times painful, at times heartfelt and at times humorous. Their approaches to child care was another reflection of just how different they were. While one used the "by the book" techniques, the other used the "hands-on education" techniques. The result was a joy to watch and had me smiling more than once.
I also loved the the secondary characters as well as the setting of the Lazy M. The author's descriptive writing of their conversations and the setting made me feel like I was right there with them and had me wishing that I were. You could sense the strong family bond they shared, the love they had for each other and their strong faith in God. This combination is an absolute winner of a story and one that I highly recommend.
Book Quote:
"We're in this together. You aren't alone. And when you need to be lifted up to the Lord, I'll do it, and I'll expect you to do the same."
How in the world are these two going to end up together?
A rancher Drew Morgan and a big-city professor Sadie Ross are as opposite as they can get. But they have to find a common ground because both of them have been appointed as guardians of a precious baby girl. Drew and Sadie have only a few weeks to decide who will become the permanent parent.
Their first decision is for Sadie to move into the ranch house for the time being. Living alongside with Drew and his grandfather, also Drew's brothers and the housekeeper, Sadie's story is revealed. She is a former foster child who has made her life and work a success by always researching and preparing herself for the next step. However, ranch life is lived hands-on one day at a time. Sadie is up for the challenge and learns both from her books and from Drew how to care for the baby and help out around the homestead. Most of all, she experiences for the first time the blessing of a true family around her.
Sadie's transformation from an uptight PhD to a more laid-back mama was more dramatic than the changes in Drew. Many situations and scenes involving her are relatable to many women, I think (like admiring a pretty piece of jewelry and walking away from it without purchasing it). I thought her decision to give the right for permanent guardianship to Drew showed how sacrificial, selfless, and strong her character was. But I was completely blown away by Drew's offer to leave the ranch for Sadie and baby Mae.
Out of the many opposites attract books I have read, The Baby Inheritance stands out with its lack of dramatics and fireworks that usually accompany the trope. The story is intense, but in a mature, grown-up way. With their banter, Grandpa, the brothers, and the housekeeper add humor to the story, but they also draw both main characters' attention to some serious matters they need to address.
This story is enjoyable, relatable, and has a group of very likable characters. Drew's brothers seem to have very interesting backgrounds as well; I am looking forward to reading their stories.
