A new enemy has emerged, which has proven to be far deadlier than the Overlords. So deadly, in fact, that the Overlords have chosen to join the Terran-Sontag-Kardon alliance rather than continue to fight it.
But the Legastians don’t know fear, and they were already beating the Overlords. Will the addition of the AIs help or hinder the alliance?
The fighting at Surrapsis has shown the Legastians are willing to do whatever it takes—including kamikaze attacks—when necessary to win a battle. And, with only a little head start, they can quickly get a toehold on a planet that is both hard and costly to eradicate.
The Terrans and other members of the alliance have been re-armed, and they think they’re ready to take on the Legastians. But with Kardon traitors having gone over to the enemy’s side… are they really?
Feels like the series is jumping the shark. Plot gaps are becoming frequent for the sake of keeping the series going forward with very little true plot advances and unexplained/irrational plot twists. Better he try give the series a good ending instead of just keeping it alive with subpar plots.
Book 8 and nothing much has changed, they still fight an alien species, just a different one This time round there's a slight nuance relating to an SI, but the main premise is still war by attrition and basically the good guys are running out of resources and people, but then they always are The next book needs to move the story along more, not just lots of big battles, lots of death and destruction and woe is us
The humans and their Allie’s are in dire straits. Sabotage and traitor SI’s have decimated the alliance forces. Hope is running out. The alliance is splitting up to go defend their worlds in a last ditch effort. Lance Baker’s death is number one to the queen of the attacking aliens. He has been chased away from the human forces and and help. But he has a plan! Tune in to the new book! I have an idea what he is planning! Can’t wait to see if I’m right!
With so much happening all the time, what holds this series together is the grit and determination from the main characters. With each bleak encounter the will to win makes the chance to survive and bear the odds a given rather than hope and this is what keeps us engrossed in this. Great writing and this one for a long time is my favourite.
Great follow on book. Story evolves with more action in many scenarios. But underlying up and down of win loose in the battles gets somewhat samey albeit in different ways. Meanwhile the enemy seem to have no end of resources that can be called upon while the overlords have exited stage left.
I’m starting to get the feeling that this battle will never end. I was hoping for some resolution between Baker and Jiminez and some light at the end of the tunnel. I love most Chaney books, but I think I am done with this series. Sorry, but it’s time to read something more enjoyable….
Great series kind of put off reading this for awhile but now am finishing books in 2-3 days. When you think all the angles have been used up another one pops up you didn't expect. Have totally enjoyed it.
While normally I'm a fan of the uplink series, I just can't like this book : It feels (and reads) empty, a rehase from previous books with nothing in it that would add something to the serie.
