There were a lot of reasons to go to a bakery. Birthdays, first dates, a study session, your first stop after church to pick up donuts, the post night-out debrief with the girls. The mystery man dressed all in black in the corner of Ivy's was not here for any of those reasons. He was here to watch the Russian restaurant across the street. Kate knew she shouldn't mess with the poor stranger but it had been a slow morning and she was bored. She knew the man had to be someone dangerous but that didn't stop her from trying to give him a caffeine overdose. There was something about a hot man covered in tattoos and dressed in an expensive suit that excited Kate and caused her to make poor decisions.
Dane Russo was supposed to be keeping a close eye on Darbazi's but instead he was distracted by the waitress at the bakery. He was a mess. His palms were sweaty, his leg wouldn't stop shaking and if his heart beat any faster his heart was going to explode. Dane blamed the coffee for his irritability but deep down he knew the waitress who was trying to kill him was to blame. If he wanted to stay here and use Ivy's to spy on the Russians then he had to play by her rules. No one had ever actually died from drinking too much coffee, right?
Kate knew the sensible, smart thing to do was to keep her distance from the mystery mafia man but there was no denying her attraction to Dane. Dane should have left Ivy's and never come back but he couldn't get Kate out of his head. Would Kate and Dane's relationship survive beyond the bakery or would it end before it ever truly began?

In all honesty I almost passed on this book and even had it on my Kindle at one point before but took it off to make room for another KU book. It was a 4am no sleep decision that made me go back to it and now I'm regretting not reading it sooner. Dane and Kate had the type of relationship that made me smile like a crazy person. There were so many interactions between them that I'd be reading and then realize that I was smiling in the middle of it when my cheeks started to hurt. I found them adorable together and they're the reason I enjoyed the book so much.
Was it perfect? No, but most things aren't. My one complaint is that there were a few too many times it skipped time. It's a pet peeve of mine with reading when there are multiple instances in a a book where a new chapter starts with telling us a month or more has passed. And then we get a brief overview of what happened during that time we don't get to see. That's more of a personal preference but it did happen a few times too many for me in this book.
Overall, Dane and Kate still make me smile thinking about them and I already know this will be a book I re-read more than once. And since I started the series out of order I'll definitely be going back to read the first book as I wait not so patiently for the next.
Okay I only gave Lilac and Honey 2 stars BUT Dane and Kates story was written way better. It was still a little one dimensional and skimmed over details/situations I felt like could have been expanded on but this was still good! The spice was spicy enough and I loved their chemistry. I wish there was more appearance details with the characters when we meet them but that’s just something I like in books. After this book I’m hoping we get an Alessio/Juliette story! I’d read it if it was anything like Kate and Dane!
bit of a break from the seious erads this month prefered first 1/2 of the book
great start -> To all the girlies that are reading this in public right now
notes: - How could a man so mysterious be so terrible atreading between the lines? - You’re my only customer who actually likes the crosswords. Isaved the pages from the newspaper every day in case you came back. Itfelt wrong throwing them out.” - “I wanted to give back to my parents. I didn’t want them to have towork anymore. That’s the only reason I went to college. I saw how tiredthey were working day and night for the five of us to have a better life thanthey did. That’s why when I met Apollo I didn’t refuse his offer to work forhim.”“That doesn’t sound selfish at all, Dane.” - He took one more deep breath, and then leaned into me, “We reallyneed to get your front door fixed.”“It worked perfectly fine before you started breaking and enteringbecause you’re too impatient to ring the doorbell.” I said.“Missed you too, Kate.” - “I’m sorry Kate. Angel wasn’t supposed to use the gun.”“What the fuck was he supposed to do then?” I asked, trying not tocry.“You and Dane are becoming more serious, I needed to know Icould trust you.” (bro wtf) - “Go back inside Apollo. If Kate leaves me because of what you’vedone I’ll come back here and actually kill you. Go and pray I don’t comeback.” - “Breathe with me.” - I couldn’t believe what I’d done, but I was ineven more shock at how good it felt. - “If I ever hear Kate’s name leave your mouth again I will stitch yourlips together and slowly and carefully watch you bleed out. I will watch yousquirm and listen to your muffled cries as you die alone with no one to trulymourn you.” - “It’s terrifying isn’t it?” Apollo asked.“What?”“The feelings you have for Kate. It makes you feel so human, sovulnerable.” He said.“Is this how you felt with Eliana?”“Worse.” He admitted.
funny: - I picked this tiny bakery to keep watch on the Russians andinstead I was distracted by a barista who was trying to give me a caffeineoverdose - “You don’t consider this a robbery?” I asked.“Think of this as more of a donation.” - “Nothing may have happened at Darbazi’s, but I’m sure I missedsomething exciting today. Did you try to kill or bribe any customers?”“I’m hurt, I would never.” - We have a system for a reason Kate.” I mimicked as I walked byBecca - “She’s decided to swear off men. I give it a week.” - Dane came back out when my last customer was walking out. Ifollowed behind them to lock the door. When I turned around I found Danestanding there wearing my pink fucking apron.Lord, give me strength.“Better?” He asked, giving a spin.“Mhmm.” I mumbled, physically unable to say anything withoutbursting into thin air. - “Hang up and see what happens Kate.” He warned.“What would you do if I did hang up? You’re in Italy. Would you flyback to spank me?” I asked. Jesus, whatthe fuck was in thattequila? “Have you been drinking?” He asked.“No.” - “Drunk Kate is mean.” He said.“Drunk Kate is honest.” I replied. - “What would have been really awkward?” I asked.“Showing up at your bakery in an attempt to be romantic andmysterious.” I turned around and saw Dane standing there, phone in - “Distracting me with sex is low, even for you Dane. Absolutelydeplorable.” I laughed.“It’s only deplorable if it doesn’t work.” - “You want me to vandalize a mob bosses’ warehouse. Great idea,I’m sure that won’t piss him off at all. Are you fucking crazy?” I asked.“Come on, don’t pretend like it doesn’t sound fun - “You’ve been following him.”“I just told you there’s an actual list of people who want him dead.Of course I’m following him (lol) - “You’re a fucking pussy going to Kate instead of me.” I said, as Iwalked out from the kitchen.“It worked.” Apollo grinned - When the fuck did you learn how to knock? Where’s the singing? The shrieks from the hallway?
tension: - (blah blah blah backstory stuff) and now that you know everything about me I think you should know that I’d really like to kiss you - rol. I’d never kissed someonelike Dane, someone who knew exactly what they wanted. He knew exactlywhere to hold me, where to kiss me. I finally gave in and let Dane take over.My body was practically screaming at me, begging me to let Dane take itfurther - Get in the car Kate.”“Why should I?” I asked.“Because I don’t like sharing and as much as I want to fuck youright here on the car I won’t do it in front of the whole city to see. Now, getin the car. - Take your dress off.” He ordered.“Why?”“Because ever since that night in your apartment I haven’t been ableto stop thinking about what it would be like to lean you against a couch andeat you out. I want to taste you, and every second you stand there not takingyour dress off is killing me.” - We’re the only ones here Kate. Don’t hold anything back. I want tohear you. I want to hear how I make you feel.”
smut: - 45/46 - 51/52 -59-63 cupcake as a safe word makes so much sense hahaha - “I couldn’t stop picturing what it would look like tying you up tight.I wanted to watch the curves of your body struggle every time I tied you upto my bed. I dreamed of getting to grab your hips and press into yourstomach while I fucked you. I wanted to feel you, touch you wherever Iwanted while I was inside you. I wanted to fuck you so hard my neighborscould hear you screaming. - I wanted him to ruin me, I wanted him tofuck me until I couldn’t breathe - “I can’t make you feel good when you hide from me like that Kate.A body like yours is meant to be worshiped. How could you ever think thisisn’t exactly what I want?” - ** When Igetback I’m fucking youin thatdress ** - “I wish you would fly home.” I told him.“And why is that?”“Because you’re really hot when you’re angry.”“Kate…” He warned.“I’m serious. The other night I came so hard thinking about whatyou’d do to me if I pissed you off.” - 95-? too much tension idk - “Then you better fuck me before they get here. But, for the record, Idon’t mind them watching.” I teased. - 106-108 - “You said we don’t have a lot of time. Don’t waste it teasing me, just fuck me already.” - “I missed being able to kiss you.” He said, leaning in to lick me.“I missed hearing you scream.” He spoke, muffled between my legs.“I missed how you shake when you’re close and you tighten on mycock.” -208-211 - “You like that?” I asked.Dane grabbed a lock of my hair and forced my head back up.Locking his eyes to mine he spoke, “I like anything you do Kate.” - You said you pictured me fucking you with my bruised fingers - He turned myhead back and kissed me until I nearly forgot how to breathe - 276 onwards
It was an alright book. Some of the jump scened and transitions weren’t the best. There wasn’t really much of a plot to the story honestly. They got together fairly quickly, which is fine because not all relationships start off with a friendship or rival story as sometimes you just meet someone and get a crush. We mainly followed Kate and Dane’s relationship. It felt repetitive at times and kinda cheesy. They both fell very easily and were already miscommunicating just weeks into it. I liked the second half better. I give it a three stars because it was enjoyable for what I was looking for at the moment but some parts I just skimmed honestly.
Overall it was good, but nothing more. It was entertaining and simple, so it helped me keep my mind off things. The smut is improvable, I didn't really like the way it was written. Cute.
Did I enjoy the first book in this series? No. Did I enjoy this book? Also no. Will I read the third one? Yes…. obvi. This book did not contain any semblance of a plot but I could not stop reading so kudos to Ms. Taylor.
It was.. meh It wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't exciting either.
As far as mafia goes, this wasn't it. The mafia storyline was so weak that you could have literally swapped it to just a billionaire story, and no one would notice.
There just wasn't any big storyline. It focused so much on Dane and Kate's relationship it kind of got a bit boring as it wasn't really moving.
Junior was good comedy relief, but read like he was maybe 16.
I didn't really understand Danes' back story. He is no.2 in the mafia, but he has a huge family completely separate from that life. Only 1 sister knows what he does. Do they have secret protection?
The mafia parts were rushed and not detailed, so it was kind of like a fan fic with just a sprinkle of mafia, so you know its mafia. But dark it was not.
I kept waiting for Kate to be kidnapped or attacked by someone related to the mafia.. but it was just a random guy related to another side story that was quick and over off the page.
Easy and quick to read. Although chapters were a bit too long.
I felt like the book started two chapters in. The characters were obsessed with each other instantly in a way that made any chemistry unbelievable and not very enjoyable at the start. This would be less of a problem if the first half of this book didn’t overlap with the last leaving no secondary plot. The second half of the book was surprisingly fairly enjoyable. The chemistry did eventually build and I was rooting for the main characters and their relationship by the end. I don’t know if it was just the beginning that threw me off but I didn’t get as invested as I was expecting. First book was definitely worth reading, this one isn’t going to make you want to stab your eyes out but nothing particularly special and slow to get into.
sloppy...sloppy...sloppy The beginning was great, I enjoyed it much more than the first book, but Dane definitely would be a horrible spy lol. Kate was great, she was far more interesting than Eliana, more alive and adventurous I'd say, maybe a tad weird, but I really liked this couple.
Some parts of the book were boring, like spicy ones. The introduction of members of Dane's family should've been from Kate's POV, it'd been more interesting. I truly love Junior, although I wonder, how old is he? He gives off vibes of a teenager like 15/16 years old. Is it just me or did it feel like reading a story about teenagers sometimes?
I loved the book! It was the perfect balance of mafia and romance. And goodness me does Dane know what to do with his mouth!!! From he say “I need to taste you” I was like 😳🤧😩 sirrr!!!! And the fact that the plot twist had absolutely nothing to do with the mafia 🤯i figured that would be their biggest issue since that caused problems in their relationship before but nope!! The spice was spicing but not too much (which is fine by me cause the story line was on point). I love how each character changed but in a sense remained the same. I was expecting the book to be mid cause the cover looked dry and I barely saw any reviews or ntn but wow!
Immediately picked it up after reading the first book in the series and loved it just as much. Ada proved herself to be an author who excels at writing contemporary romance stories that's actually believable and relatable to the point that it feels as a personal experience. There's lively humor, there's drama for levity, there are multidimensional and interesting personalities, deep secure love, caring friendships, and an adorable epilogue. Writing is just excellent as well. Can't wait for book 3!!
I normally enjoy reading Mafia books they are my preferred books, so when I had saw a TikTok from the author about this book I Immediately started to read it. I thought I would like it but the books writing style wasn’t the best, it was giving watt-pad and not in a good way. No shade. The intro was just way to rushed in my opinion and idk I felt like the characters had no personality, i only read until 10% so I cant say much for the rest of the book. For the people who like fast reads would probably enjoy it idk 😓
It was pretty good! A quick and good read! There were some mix ups in the book that referenced Apollo when it was clearly meant to be Dane’s name. Overall an enjoyable read the fmc is strong and intelligent which of course gives a spicy romance room to be even better. I think it is HIGHLY worth reading the first book of the series before just because I think it would be confusing without the background. 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 spicy for a dark romance
heard about it from tiktok then was really interested when I discovered I already read the first book.
Loved the plot. I feel like I’ve already read this book but maybe it was something very similar. Loved the FMC & MMC and all their friends. Loved that it wasn’t just pure smut. I LOVED the way they met. I would easily read again. I wish there was just a few more details at the end about their wedding or something tho.
I really liked the story, it was cute and had a lot of potential. The characters were fun, and the plot kept me entertained, but the writing felt a little too plain. There wasn’t much description, so I had a hard time picturing the scenes and really getting lost in the world. It was a quick, easy read, though, and I think some people would love the straightforward style. Personally, I just wanted a little more depth to make it feel more immersive.
I've been so excited to read this book, I read an excerpt of it on tiktok and immediately knew I had to get my hands on it and wow did I love this book, I do think that the story was a little flat but it definitely had moments where it brought tears to my eyes and had me laughing out loud, It was so good and for what it's worth comes highly recommended from me
solid 4 stars. Really good but not amazing, it didn’t really stick out. Th MMC was really hot but at times he was too anxious and trying to do the smart thing and like i didn’t care. While you probably can’t tell by the cover it is a mafia romance but not dark at all. solid spice. cute couple. nice found family. The book did feel a little long.
Fast paced but so good. The story sucked me right in and I loved the “He fell first” of the whole story because let’s face it lol definitely a great read !
it’s a good book. i wish that there would’ve been more exploration in the main girls relationship with her brother. i also wish that we would’ve seen more effects of her parents deaths on her. she seems almost unaffected by it. it was a good love story tho.
This book made me grin like a child on Christmas morning. It was a great dynamic between the two and I loved the banter. It was a fast paced book but I was expecting that going in. It was a really good read
