This sparked my 8-year-old's love of Norse mythology. We switched over to Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology audiobook though. Neil Gaiman's book presents the myths in an order that is much easier to follow as a newcomer. We might pop back into this book of 101 myths later to dabble in myths from other cultures.
It took a little more than a year, but I finally finished reading this to my son. We put it aside between types of myths to read other books, with multiple breaks during the lengthy final Other Myths section. Some of the material became repetitive, and my son was bummed out by the deaths of multiple figures throughout, but overall it was fun to read myths from many different cultures, especially ones that I was not already familiar with.
I found this book extremely dissatisfying. The stories were not well told and many of them were confusing. I would NOT read this to children, the stories are appropriate, (sometimes forced to be so as in many of the Greek myths) but they just aren't good.
