Another fabulous book to add to my health library. I'm still a newbie at using niacin. Haven't quite gotten over that fear of the heat/flush that niacin brings on every time. Niacin is a wonder vitamin though. Totally recommend this book to everybody looking for ways to stay healthy, because this book is worth its weight in gold.

I kind of did all of this backwards. First I started taking niacin and only read this book to explain for myself all the mental clarity and health benefits I undoubtedly felt since I started. I would like to recommend this to a lot of people, but I doubt anyone would take it seriously and get pass the flushing. Too bad though........

Not light reading but the authors gave convincing evidence of the benefits of taking megadoses of niacin and some other vitamins for certain ailments. I was convinced! I will continue taking my vitamins along with an additional healthy dose of niacin in spite of the recent "bad news" we hear from the news media about vitamin supplementation. It seems that as I had suspected the bad hype on vitamins comes from the drug companies. Vitamins and good health are bad for their business! Niacin has been proven to cure or improve not only Pellagra but also schizophrenia, high cholesterol, arthritis, and many other ailments. I recommend this book if you are interested in good health and enjoy knowing the scientific facts behind it.

Wish they would correct the typos above. Fantastic book. What really strikes me (and the author points out as well) is that good research has been done showing that treatments with niacin are effective for things like schizophrenia and elevated blood fats yet the medical establishment pays little attention to this and we all know why. Statins are a billion dollar industry yet niacin works more effectively and without side effects. Sad, especially for those who could be helped. There are a myriad of other benefits. Here is a great summary:

Interesting to read how niacin was used as a treatment! Makes a good argument about nutritional deficiency and dependency and why that results in the disorders and illness we frequently see today. For example a study of delinquents and people with violent personalities showed specific mineral deficiencies. Talked about schizophrenia ( and a couple of others) as an evolutionary advantage, the trade-off is their inability to produce B3 and therefore fall in the dependency category. Addresses anxiety, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, cancer patients undergoing radiation, PTSD in veterans, Down syndrome, and reversing the effects of fetal alcohol syndrome How schizophrenia have become normal under their care and how it differs from Alzheimer. Especially since people who think they have Alzheimer (they wrongly believe their brain fog is related to a genetic mutation) think it is irreversible. The particular levels of each vitamin and minerals proven to be effective in their practice are listed for each ailment to include recovery from addiction and acne issues. Reliable references and a section listing additional recommended reading materials. Nice to see medical practitioners sharing their experience so others don't have to reinvent the wheel. I think the issue will come down to finding a reliable form, tailoring it to the individual's needs. Speak with your doctor, hopefully with this book in hand, to get a helpful guide through the process.

This work is from a pioneer of orthomolecular medicine. Which can be summed up by saying the Recommended Daily Allowance is not enough.

This RDA was formulated in the early days of the discovery of vitamins, and has incorporated the shortsightedness of this early research. It turns out niacin is not a vitamin. It is actually a neurohormone, which might explain why I am so incredibly helped by Dr. Hoffer's protocol.

I have suffered my whole life from anxiety and no psychiatric medicine worked. Therapy helped with coping skills, but once I started getting panic attacks, things became serious and I already tried the medication route.

Discovering Dr. Hoffer's book was literally life-changing. There's a lot of good information and examples. Follow his guidelines for increasing niacin supplementation (only the flushing type) until anxiety is relieved. For me that is 3,000mg. More in times of high stress.

It has gotten me through the pandemic, and I can't give any higher praise than that.

Finished this audiobook on Friday and can highly recommend it!!

For me, I feel this one is on par with my discovery of the iodine protocol, and I will have to buy the post-covid updated book version for my future reference!

Here's just a little info on Niacin (Vitamin B3) and its many amazing healing applications that I discovered through the book:
It can help to prevent and reverse a variety of diseases and other conditions, including arthritis, ADHD, many forms of mental illness (Schizophrenia and Bipolar etc), cardiovascular disease (including reducing bad cholesterol and working better than statins), aging, alcoholism, Alzheimer’s, cancer, cholera, Huntingdon’s disease, migraine, multiple sclerosis, nephritis (kidney inflammation), Parkinsonism, PTSD, Raynaud’s disease, and a variety of skin conditions.

Sadly, this is another low-cost, natural compound and remedy that will not be promoted by the traditional medical industry as it endangers their multi-billoon dollar money-making machine.

I want to believe it but not convinced - yet.

Interesting subject, especially for me as I'm very partial to getting a niacin flush myself. It makes me feel very much alive.

However, I get trouble if I take more than 1g at a time. I get tired, have palpitations and feel generally unwell. This could be a drug interaction though so it may well not be the niacin.

Be very careful when ordering your own niacin, especially from the big auction site. I have bought some recently that seem to have ZERO niacin in them and gave me a sick to the stomach feeling. I was ill for a day after taking these ones. Amazon are a safer option but you may struggle to find 500mg pills.

Excellent book - Incredible hope is fostered when you realize there are answers for so many health issues that are related to nutritional deficiencies. Niacin is a vitamin that can help treat most mental emotional issues. Is helpful for treating arthritis as well as bringing down Cholesterol levels. Niacin that bring down your cholesterol levels without any side effects, unlike the pharmaceuticals. If you don't believe this - try it for yourself. It is not a miracle, it is just plain nutritonal deficiency - But it may appear to be a miracle when you go back to utilizing the simplest, basic treatments that are well documented.

Important cheap alternative to pharmaceutical drugs w/o side effects and longer healthier life

As always big pharma and the medical establishment are lying and trying to keep us in the dark! Must read for anybody who wants to control their own health. Cure schizophrenia, bleeding gums, high cholesterol etc. A little on the technical side for layperson hence 4 stars. Otherwise great read!

i had extreme reaction to trying perscription Niacin. Reading this book helped explain why. I am willing to try adding this again as an experiment to see if i can handle it better this time. Going with a over the counter version this time as per usual big pharma has screwed over Niacin

I really enjoyed the content of this book. I listed to it on Audible and it was at time challenging to digest. At times it was confusing which author was speaking. I learned things about the body and chemical balances in the brain that were quite interesting.

Although very technical reading, it has great information and makes you wonder why you are not taking Niacin. Read it! Take niacin.

So fascinating. Written mostly by a biochemist/psychiatrist that used niacin to treat mental illness, among other things like heart disease and arthritis for 50 years.

The core information here seems solid. The book would have greatly benefitted from a ghost writer to organize the information and edit out the authors' bitter side comments about how no one listens to them about how great niacin is.

Still worth reading, or at least skimming, if you are looking for nutritional support for mental health issues, skin issues, heart/cholesterol issues or joint issues.
