Digital short stories , yeah , I love them. They are cool, quick and fulfilling. This series, “Drunk on The Moon”, has been done with plenty of plucky zest, verve, and style right from the first one by the creator, Paul D. Brazill through this installment done by Richard Godwin. “Getting High on Daisy” definitely has struck a different chord from the rest of the installments, shakes it up in ways that show the Godwin flare, and a bit of his mystique, but all in all, this series has not had a slow installment yet. That is a testament to the guidance and ability of Paul D. Brazill that shows once again why he is considered such a giant in this genre and among authors in general.
I am truly a fan of his work, his style, his approach, and best of all his humble and self-deprecating nature. Listening to him speak about his craft is just amazing. Each and every time he releases something new, he is constantly thinking of ways to improve and to bring richer content to all. Here is a sneak peak at Tuesday’s The G-ZONE blogtalk radio show: Paul D. Brazill will be on the panel discussion we are having; don’t miss it.
Here is the synopsis: “Drunk On The Moon Five: Getting High On Daisy”

In this the fifth instalment of Paul D. Brazill's Drunk On The Moon series Richard Godwin explores the wild, feral, sexual side of Roman. We percieve, at times, Roman for the first time more as wolf than human. With strong sexual language throughout it's not one for a pensioners book club. However, as ever Godwin's writing is a powerful and descriptive metaphorical cudgel to the head. It’s hard to pick stand out language in this fabulously descriptive short story but here are a few lines that stood out for me:

He looked at the early diners, their grey faces a pattern of weakness.

He envies him for a moment wonders what such continuity must feel like, and remembers he is what this savagery has made him.

The silver light streams across the waxed immaculate bodies of Fords.

He uses deliciously erotic language at times and whilst some (not me) might find it a tad strong it does add a kind of realism. I’d imagine that anyone who has enjoyed the tone of the rest of this series will get where Richard is coming from and enjoy it as much as I did. Wolves are after all wild and primal animals. We have discovered that werewolves too feel not only the call of hot tasty flesh but also the call of their loins.

Richard also deftly fills in some of Roman’s back story adding more flesh to the bones of this already fascinating world. This is the second darkly erotic short story of Richard's that I have read. His blend of intelligent meaty descriptive writing is a joy to read and a great addition to Paul D. Brazil's Drunk On The Moon Series.

In the fifth installment of Paul D. Brazill’s fantastic Drunk On The Moon series, Richard Godwin, has created a dark and delicious tale about Roman Dalton, the werewolf PI in only a way that Godwin can—brimming with sex and violence. Getting High On Daisy is classic Godwin at his finest. The character of Daisy is introduced in this story, a beautiful woman with a whip who dabbles in BDSM. Roman seems to have a primal sexual addiction to her as well as a psychic connection.

Daisy also suffers the same affliction as Roman and together they make a tantalizing team. Except that she’s missing. And Roman, after waking from the usual moon-lit hangover, not knowing where he’s been or what’s happened, can’t remember where she is or even who she is. All he knows is that he’s got to find her, and save her as it turns out, from a horrible fate. Getting High On Daisy is an aphrodisiacal fusion of erotica and noir, lewd and brilliantly written. It will leave you hungry more.

But wait, there is more Godwin to be had, check out his new crime novel, Apostle Rising.

Getting High on Daisy is the fifth instalment in the Drunk in the Moon series and arguably the first to show Roman Dalton in his element. He’s more Cujo than Diefenbaker, far more animal than human. He’s certainly no puppy dog. And it’s fantastic to see that side of the character.

Richard Godwin is one of the most exciting writers to emerge in recent times. His writing is dark and lyrical, beautifully crafted, and while he never includes words or scenes purely for shock value, he never shies away from showing us the truth of a story.

Getting High on Daisy is a wild ride. Roman Dalton is dangerous, feral, visceral. And so is Daisy.

A college writing professor of mine one said that you don't just tell a story, you show a story. Richard Godwin made excellent use of the senses in Getting High On Daisy. He not only told the story, he showed his readers the story.

I can't wait to read more of his work!!

Richard writes a hard, mean, almost bitter take on Paul D. Brazill's Drunk On the Moon. It's not for the squeamish. And the ending . . . ah, the ending! Most vivid!
