A blind H and a downwardly mobile lady’s companion.
What would one expect? Lots of angst provided by a tortured, railing H and a pious but gritty must-help-and-heal h?
Well, the surprise is that the H is anything but a sorry for himself whiner/snarler. But the h is as described. The H was a sociable easygoing charmer and manages to remain easygoing if not (understandably) as sociable after being blinded. I like this 'different take' on the blindness trope as the H realistically overcomes the new limitations of his life. He's too proud to let anyone see his vulnerability and most of his energy is expended on 'acting normal'. I could relate to that.
It’s a series and the last (of three) unmarried daughter of a ruined and dead banker (so, merchant class) makes a living as ladies’ companion to the ton. The book opens on her second job - as one to the H’s grandmother. The H lives with his grandmother on her estate just outside London as he cannot abide living alone at his estate in Derbyshire. His misfit and unmarried sister is a loyal companion who devotes all her time to her brother.

This is the third and final book in the Sisters of Willow Pond-trilogy and tells the story of Louisa Shelby and Simon Wade.
Louisa is the youngest Shelby-sister and Simon is the friend of David Thurlow who is the hero of book 1 and now married to Louisa’s eldest sister Victoria.
This book contrary to book 2 gave me the same vibe as book 1 did.
I can't say I didn't like the book, because I did like it and that was because of the characters, both hero, heroine and secondary characters.
They were well written, having depth and their development throughout the story was very nice to read.
I liked Simon because of the way he tried to deal with his blindness. His independence and his way of trying to protect the people he loves.
I liked Louisa's compassion and her desire to help people she cares for with their problems and difficulties.
They are both genuine and very loveable characters you can easily relate to and have sympathy for. They learn to trust each other with their fears and doubts caused by actions of their parents and peers
The tentative flirtations between Simon and Louisa lead to deeper feelings and they slowly fall in love. This is written in a very believable way and as a reader you grow into the relationship with them
Of the secondary characters I loved Manvil, Simon's valet. He was witty and impertinent, not afraid to tell his employer what he thinks. His sense of humor matches Simon's and was very refreshing. I also loved Georgiana, Simon's sister. She grew as a character throughout the book.
The story did lack a plot, which was something I really appreciated in book 2. It gave that book that little bit extra. Unfortunately in this book there was too much focus on secrets, lack of trust, misguided assumptions, hiding true feelings and lack of courage to be open and honest. It all lingers too long in the story and causes unnecessary misunderstandings.
This bothered me in book 1 and now again in this book, but the characters and character-development did make up for this.
The recurring element was the effect parents and their actions have on their children and how their outlook on other people turns out to be.
This is a wonderful theme and I can't but think that it could have been brought out even better with less focus on the misunderstandings and assumptions.
In conclusion I thought this an average but enjoyable trilogy with an average start, a better and lovely second installment and an endearing last book.
For me book 2 was the best one if you look at the plot and book 3 was the best one if you look at the characters and their development.
The theme throughout the trilogy is trust: trust in yourself and others, especially the ones you want to love and the ones you think you can always trust, in this case: parents.
Even though the books weren't very exciting or thrilling they each suited the different sister's personalities, as did the heroes. The combination of the characters was done in a great way.
This made it an acceptable trilogy. Uncomplicated and simple, with no intricate plots but genuine people overcoming their insecurities and issues by finding true love and the ability to trust their feelings in the hand of others.

This is the third book in the Sisters of Willow Pond series by Gayle Callen. I thought this book was heartwarming and adorable. The main characters are likeable and the relationship build to their HEA was welcoming. I thought this was a bit better than the other two I've read in this series and look forward to reading more from this author.

This read more like a slice of life with a slow-burn romance. It was not fun to read since nothing interesting occurs but if it was available on audiobook (or if the audiobook was free), I think I would have enjoyed it just fine.
No villains, thankfully. Just a mean mother who shows up in the last 10% to make the heroine feel miserable. A little bit of angst since the blind hero doesn’t want to marry the heroine and have her resent him one day.
The ending felt rushed but the HEA was sweet and romantic, so the book gets an extra star for that.

Great historical romance - got off to a rocky start, but quickly improved. There was no villain/mystery subplot to distract from the development of the hero and heroine's relationship, which was a nice change. Simon, the hero, is blind following a riding accident a year before the story takes place and I was pleased that Callen had him remain blind and didn't have him miraculously (although some medical reason is always given) recover his sight before the end of the book. She wrote Simon's POV very effectively, so that one really did feel his blindness and the accompanying vulnerability; it was disconcerting when reading passages from his perspective and not knowing what was around him or what people's expressions reflected - very well done. As always, her endings are slightly abrupt and anti-climactic, but it was still an extremely enjoyable and touching read.

The Hero - Simon Wade - has a disability and re-learns how to live his life. I've been reading romance novels for over 30 years, and this was the first time I encountered a hero with a disability such as this. I absolutely loved the story, and how genuine the Heroine - Louisa Shelby - is through out this entire book. Romantic. Heart warming. A must read!

Terrible cover and title aside, I loved this story. The flow of the story, the reasonableness of the characters, and the family dynamics that were not antagonistic and many times loving was so refreshing that I savored every page. Except the sex scene. Sex after nearly being drowned, half in water, freezing cold, and lying on a muddy embankment is not my cup of tea. But hey, to each their own...it was different! ;)
Anyway, I have not read the other books in this series so this stood well on its own for me. The sisters were in it briefly at the beginning and the end but I didn't feel like I was missing anything (they are the heroines of the first two books). This story did a great job balancing the social restrictions of the time with creating situations where the two leads could be together. I loved how their relationship developed. The heroine is someone who was still searching for her place and purpose in the world after her family's fall from grace. She was someone who looked at her old life with new eyes and wanted to continue to grow as a person. It was so nice having a heroine who was mature, level-headed, and aware of and thankful for what she did have but honest with herself that she wanted something more. The hero was really interesting too. He was blinded before the story opened and is still trying to put together the pieces of his life when he meets the heroine. In a divergence from most heroes with a scar/illness/handicap, this hero is someone who was a social butterfly before the accident and struggling to figure out how he can put together his life now that he is blind and unable to do things as he had before. He isn't beastly about it, he isn't cruel to his family, he just is uncertain how to move forward. It was at times heart-wrenching and inspiring to see how he developed as a character--he certainly did it with more grace than I would have!
This story takes place mostly at the Viscount's country estate and is mainly character driven. There is some drama and needless angst at the end (warning: I WILL NEVER MARRY YOU BECAUSE REASONS trope is present) but fortunately it does not last long and since I enjoyed the rest of the story so much, I'm not going to deduct stars for it.
I will be going on to read the other stories in this series. A really enjoyable story I savored from beginning to end.

A few deliciously passionate scenes, fun and clever dialogue with a nice and easy flow. Sadly the ending felt a bit rushed. Nonetheless, a lovely and captivating read!

What first caught my attention about this book was that the hero was blind. In the past, I have been very disappointed with most of Callen's books and I thought maybe this would be a good read. I was mistaken yet again. I give her credit for writing a "Less Than Perfect" hero, but the overall story was so tripe and dull that I am surprise I didn't throw the book across the room.
The heroine Louisa is so nice and perfect even though her father killed himself due to... not even worth remembering. Her life is just so perfect as we are told over and over but she is missing a certain zest for something. She becomes a companion to an older woman who really doesn't need her. But then Louisa meets Simon, another paragon of looks, money and he is just so nice, but he has gone blind due to a horse accident, so how will she deal with him?
Simon grows to love Louise because she has a nice smell (I am not joking, he really does like her because of her perfume). Also, because there are rumors of Louisa kissing too many men, this makes her questionable when it comes to her being around his sister. But hey, she smells so nice and she makes him laugh and she is willing to let him kiss her and touch her in ways that he shouldn't. But he is blind after all so it is okay.
There is not much of an appealing story here. Louisa walks around smiling; Simon rows boats in his lake and thinks about Louisa the perfume angel. There is that one lone sex scene that really doesn't make sense at all and the author probably inserted it in because it was expected.
The title is because Simon has this habit of just talking to Louisa in her bedroom all the time, well the times that Louisa is not roaming the house in her nightgown because she can't sleep. Simon also seems to find her at those times also.
If you are a fan of historical romance, look elsewhere. A nice smelling heroine and her undying devotion for her blind handsome lover can't help this story!

Lovely book. No helpless woman and no arrogant man. This is the story of a strong intelligent and passionate woman with a strong duty bound man of values. I enjoyed reading this.

Ik heb de Nederlandstalige uitgave gelezen : Candlelight Historische roman 829 - Voel mijn verlangen . Dit is het 3e en laatste deel van de serie over de zusjes Shelby . Als het kon zou ik het boek 3 en een half sterren geven . Het verhaal is zeker 4 sterren waard maar de schrijfstijl van deze auteur past niet helemaal bij mij .

This is one of my beloved keepers. There's nothing I didn't like about this book. Great hero, great heroine, wonderful story. This was a heartwarming, touching story, filled with love and humor.
Firstly, there is always talk about covers, and very rarely do we see a blond hero on the cover (unless it's Fabio, LOL). I liked this guy on sight.
What did I like? All the main characters are truly likeable. There is no huge villain - the main conflict is Simon's blindness. I liked the way Simon's family rallied around him (with the exception of his mother, who comes back later to provide the impetus for the resolution of the story). I liked the way Simon wasn't wallowing in self-pity. He was slowly trying to put his life back together. And he was open to the changes that Louisa proposed for him - to please her, to please his family, but mostly so that he could improve his quality of life.
I also enjoyed the night-time talks between Simon and Louisa. While they were rife with sexual tension, they also served to bring them closer as friends; they got to know one another, they shared confidences. They served to dispel any misgivings Simon may have had over the one contrived setup - that of Louisa's "perceived reputation" among the men in the ton.
I enjoyed the Wade family dynamics. Lady Wade obviously loves her grandchildren, and that feeling is obviously returned in spades, along with a healthy dose of well-earned respect. I liked the give and take and teasing, but evident love that shone through among the three Wade siblings - untempered, only strengthened, by Simon's accident.
I also enjoyed getting a glimpse, although short-lived, of the three Shelby sisters together with their extended families. They also share a closeness and love together.
What didn't I like? Not much. I probably could have done without Louisa's setup reputation, however its purpose was clear, and it did move the story to its conclusion.

Louisa Shelby, once enjoyed a life full of parties and balls, but after her father died, Louisa and her two sisters were forced to find a means of providing for themselves. So Louisa decided to be a lady's companion. Now she has been requested to do a job as a companion to an elderly viscountess, only never expecting to find that she isn't really expected to be a lady's companion at all, since the Viscontess hardly needs one, but her granddaughter, is in desperate need to overcome her shyness around men especially. But there is also Simon Wade to consider, who after a accident with his horse, became blind. So now its obvious that she is there to help both of the younger wades, even though they don't know it. Louisa however never expected to fall in love with this man, who has stolen her heart from the first.
The Viscount In Her Bedroom is the last in the Sisters of Willow Pond written by Gayle Callen. I just love this author and I have loved this series, its such a tender filled romance, and even though I have read this before, its one of those that I could re read and still delightfully enjoy it. The Viscount In Her Bedroom is a story that involves two people that have both suffered, but in very different way, but they share a passion and as the story develops we see a enchanting love blossom. Such a beautifully written story with such detail it seemed at times that I was actually there in the moment, the characters were lively, and the story line very enticing, and before I knew it I was finished with the book. From beginning to end I was fully satisfied, and absolutely adored it!!!

'The Viscount in her Bedroom'... the very title is such that I feel scandalous having even picked up the book. Bwahahaha. Yeah, well. Whatevs. This is the third of a series (which is hinted at, but the book reads just fine as a stand-alone)... but as such Louisa is the last of the three sisters to marry.
As the story goes, they were gentility, then their dad hung himself upon losing all of their money, and they were in disgrace Then (in a previous book) the older sisters made wealthy matches for themselves, so the family is saved, and their reputations restored. But Louisa - who had been a ladies' companion to earn money - doesn't feel useful just going to live with her sister. So when she's offered a job as a companion to another dowager, she accepts.
Only the woman hiring her isn't in need of a companion. What she wants is an ex-society sweetheart who can help her clutzy granddaughter to be more comfortable in social settings. And Louisa had inadvertantly done that at her last companion job, so she's capable of fitting the bill. However, this new awkward pupil (Georgie, the granddaughter) has an older brother who's heard rumors about how *fast* Louisa is. Of course she isn't, but someone has spread rumors, and he doesn't want a loose woman around his sister. So he makes sure he's always on hand, watching Louisa so that she doesn't lead his sister astray.
And of course they fall in luvvv, and he starts sneaking into her room at night, to sit in the chair and talk to her, because he just wants to be close. See? THAT'S why the book... okay, hell. The last visit they do the horizontal tango, but it's a ROMANCE, for Pete's sake. What do you expect? Even in these prim little Regency books, you're gonna get some hot love-making. Sheesh...

This book was very enjoyable, but it could have been perfect.
First of all, I didn't give it 5 stars because there were pages I didn't even read. I just skimmed those unnecessary parts to get to the good stuff.
Second, I felt like grabbing Simon, the hero, by the scruff of his neck and just shake the living lights out of him, to see if I could put some sense into that head.
That business about "Louisa's scandalous reputation' was total nonsense and the more he brought it on, the more pissed I got.
Why did he have to believe so readily that the heroine was a woman of loose morals, just because, once upon a time, in a different life, she loved balls and dancing and a little flirting?
There is nothing wrong with a young woman wanting to have some fun and just be admired. It wasn't that she jumped every single man that crossed her way and showed interest.
In fact, she had never been kissed before him.
Simon, on the other hand, was a confirmed rake. He was the one getting lucky with the ladies. Who did he think he was to judge Louisa and for something she didn't even do?
Men! Plus, that entire stuff about how Louisa couldn't possibly desire a blind man was just bull. He was just afraid of having something meaningful with her and distorted everything she said or did.
I'm glad he finally saw some sense. It didn't spare Louisa some serious amount of pain, but better late than ever.

Was not sure what to expect from this book. There is no synopsis on the back. Anyway, Louisa's father left the family penniless, and regardless if her other sisters found good marriages, Louisa decided to work. After her previous employer's male relations tried to take advantage of her, she decided to resign and look for new employment. Her new job is not what she expected. The Dowager Viscountess actually had different motives than a companion to herself. She actually expected her to help her granddaughter after a failed first season and help her grandson with dealing with his blindness. She goes above and beyond the call of duty and the only one to not like the results is the current viscountess.
Really like the fact that no miracles happen like in similar novels but things still have the fairy tale happy ending. But she does somehow end up taking on shy girls as students to help them with their season.

A good read, funny in some parts and a bit sad in others. Both Louisa and Simon have fallen out of society in the last year or so. Louisa due to her father dying and leaving her family with out money and Simon due to a riding accident that has left him blind. And while Louisa's sisters have made good matches and their husbands have set aside a marriage portion for her, after being out of society for more than a year she feels quite adrift. Deciding to take a position as a companion Louisa finds herself being set into Simon's path. Simon is instantly taken my Louisa, however due to various rumors that he as heard over the years proclaiming her to be fast he struggles against his feelings.
So much more to this story than what I have written down but for more you'll just have to read it your self. I've read the last book first though having enjoyed it I will most likely go back and read the first two as well. over all 3.8

I cried. Like snot running down my nose crying.
Louisa - the last sister who is crushed from the weight of guilt she carries around since her father died. She attempts to help Simon as a twisted redemption and falling in love with him was inevitable.
Simon - In the other books he seemed so nice, too nice. I guess in this book you find out that people aren't what they seem they can be judgmental and harsh as our beloved Simon.
Leo - the bane of my existence the reason behind all the world turmoil and wars and children's hunger. I might be exaggerating a tiny bit but he is still annoying.

I greatly enjoyed some scenes but others I felt were weak. The first few pages struck me as fairly poor writing. Too much "tell" all at once. Moving forward hesitantly I did come to enjoy the story. The fact that the hero, while blind, wasn't brooding and too "woe is me" was nice. As was a red headed heroine who didn't have a fiery temper. They were both pleasant, fairly well rounded characters.
I probably won't reread it, but I did like it.

This was a fairly quick read and finished a trilogy of books about 3 sisters. In comparison to the other two books I'd say I enjoyed the second one the best, then this one and lastly the first book in the series. The second book had a more Gothic feel to it with a little bit of a mystery and suspense. This book doesn't have anything like that, which was fine to me, but some might be disappointed after reading book 2. There was a bit of "plot" with the thing initially holding Simon back about Louisa but some of the way that unfolded didn't work for me.
I liked the main characters and really enjoyed Manvil.
But there were some things that didn't really work for me. Simon sometimes comes on way to strong, almost creepy (like the one time they meet at night in the dark and he blows out the candle). It's supposed to be be seductive but it was just a weird scene, plus he acts differently later. I'm also getting sick of pre-marital sex when there is NO understanding between the hero and heroine. I get that it happened in real life and a hot guy can be oh-so-tempting, but it's not romantic to me. Plus their first time was not romantic to me. She's a virgin and they're tossing around in the water and then he's basically on top of her and then in her. He didn't even ask "hey are you sure?" especially important because he reminds her at every turn how he will never marry. I know the author was trying to depict the people so overcome by their passion, but it just didn't work for me.
So overall it was a good book, not great. The characters were good for the most part but there were some things that diminished the story for me. In the 2 previous books, Meriel Shelby married the uncle of a young duke and Victoria married their next door neighbor, Viscount Thurlow. Now it’s time for the third Sister of Willow Pond. Although she had a few seasons with proposals, Louisa yearned for a purpose other than a safe loveless marriage. While being a companion for an elderly Lady Ralston, Louisa helped the Lady’s granddaughter gain confidence in her upcoming season. But while there, Louisa was approached for lascivious reasons by all the male family members…as if she were a “fast” woman. As a result, she left that household to take a new post as companion to the Dowager Viscountess Wade. It was there she thought she found a renewed sense of purpose - to instill knowledge and confidence in Lady Georgiana Wade. But the blind Lord Simon Wade thought Miss Shelby’s presence had an ulterior motive - his grandmother’s matchmaking, but not for his sister. The author does the characters justice by her portrayal of their individual personalities, strengths, and weaknesses:
The Dowager - insightful of the reason her granddaughter Georgiana lacks confidence around men.
Louisa - generous, kindhearted, intelligent, but oblivious to the rumors circulating amongst gentlemen about her “loose” behavior.
Simon - blind, not only visually, but also blinded by prejudice. He believes the unsubstantiated rumors but is conflicted in revealing them to Louisa, Georgie, or his grandmother.
Georgiana - reluctant to have a Season, lacks confidence in herself and lacks a flattering wardrobe, and finds solace in helping Simon with estate affairs…essentially avoiding finding her own happiness.
Louisa’s presence is disconcerting to Simon, because despite the rumors, he finds himself increasingly attracted to her. What will happen when the rumors reach Louisa’s ears? Will she have to abandon her post once again and live with her sisters - no longer an independent woman?
I do not understand the unfavorable reviews that were written 6-7 years ago. Perhaps the story has been polished to give us a brilliant jewel since then and we can enjoy a refreshing revision. This is a lovely romance and we have the advantage of seeing everything that Simon simply cannot. I have received an ARC from Booksprout and I am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily.

She wants Louisa to help her granddaughter Georgie learn to be more comfortable in society after her disastrous first season.
Louisa loves to help people and she's thrilled to help Georgie when Lady Wade asks but she also helps bring Simon out of his lonely shell and he starts learning to be more confident in his abilities again but he's worried that Louisa's reputation will damage Georgie so he tries to be present for all her instructions/lessons.
As they grow closer and Simon lets slip about his worries Louisa loses all confidence in herself because she had no idea she had a reputation. This friends to lovers story was incredibly sweet and Louisa was such a generous MC. Simon's journey back to himself was also interesting.

Lord Simon Wade is still trying to get a handle on his new reality. Can’t really blame him for switching from pleasant to surly as he struggles to regain his independence. Louisa is the youngest of three Shelby sisters. She’s so kind, & it’s easy to feel for her as she tries to figure out what’s next in her life. She hopes to find her calling after enduring the drastic changes to her family’s circumstances.
When they come to live under the same roof, it’s instant attraction w/frequent misunderstandings. Late night meetings create a friendship of sorts, but they struggle with bringing it out in the light of day. I enjoyed the premise of the story. Louisa & Simon are really easy to root for as they overcome obstacles, forge new paths for themselves, & come to discover it’s better to do it together. I really like the sweet epilogue.

Simon Wade was the darling of the Ton, a very eligible gentleman. Then a year ago he lost his eyesight in a riding accident. When Grandmama hired Louisa Shelby as her companion, Simon is suspicious. He’s sure she’s up to something. He worries that Louisa’s reputation, which she doesn’t even know she has, will reflect badly on Georgie. Lady Wade has more than one reason for hiring Louisa. In addition to being her companion, she wants Louisa to help Georgie, Simon’s sister, prepare for a successful second season. Her first one was somewhat a disaster. If her work with Georgie spills over onto Simon, even better. This is a story with a good bit of angst, snarky humor, wrong impressions and misunderstandings, a brooding hero trying to handle his new circumstances, and a kind and caring heroine. The romance starts off rocky and falters until a surprise revelation sets things right. An interesting story, great characters, and a wonderful sweet epilogue. A lovely ending for the series.
