This isn’t a tale of redemption — it’s all about the fall. An outcast amongst outcasts, Phelan Oliver nevertheless takes his duties as a Necromancer with the utmost seriousness. As one of the few in his family devoted to the “old ways,” Phelan has fully embraced the piety and severe discipline required to master demonic magic. But none of that prepares him for the day he comes face-to-face with a demon he didn’t summon—one who embodies everything he has been taught to hate, and whose wickedness sparks sinful feelings Phelan can’t ignore no matter how much he tries. As a prince of Hell, Remiel is used to getting his way. Kidnapping and torturing his sworn enemy for information should have been easy, but Phelan Oliver was not an ordinary Necromancer. On the surface, the university librarian appears quiet and devout, but beneath his unassuming facade there is a latent darkness Remiel can’t wait to unleash. In exchange for his soul’s freedom, Phelan strikes a desperate bargain to help Remiel defeat his nemesis once and for all. But it turns out demons aren’t the only ones with secrets and learning Phelan’s might end up costing them both more than they’d ever imagined. IGNI FERROQUE is a dark MM paranormal romance about a pious Necromancer and an incorrigible demon and what happens when their paths intersect. While this book can be read as a standalone, readers are encouraged to start with Malum Discordiae in order to get a broader understanding of the Winslow witches and their world.

This book contains themes intended for a mature audience and reader discretion is advised. A full list can be found on my website.

International best-selling and award-winning author Ashlyn Drewek has always been fascinated by "weird" things like Edgar Allan Poe, Halloween, and witchcraft. Not necessarily in that order. But she's also a hopeless romantic who lives for stories about true love conquering all. Since variety is indeed the spice of life, she writes a mix of MM tropes and subgenres to satisfy her rapidly changing whims.

"Ubi amor, ibi dolor" — Where there’s love, there’s pain"

kl

This Latin translation in the provided glossary at the start of Igni Ferroque was the one that hit me the hardest first. And as the story progressed, that moment when it was brought forth into the storyline was such an incredible moment, that I knew then and there that there would be no way that this story could have a ranking any lesser than a five star. Fair warning - this review is going to have heaps of quotes because the writing was absolutely divine and plenty of fangirling because this couple was a match made in Hell.

“How relaxed, but wound up in another way, a way that only he was able to make happen. He was a paradox, as always. My tormentor and my salvation, who made sinning feel like a dream.”

I absolutely LOVED reading this - the writing was absolutely sublime - the world-building absolutely fantastic with pacing that was so very well-written, that it kept you going with every second! And uff, the sex scenes - filled with such primal lust and as filthy and depraved and possessive as I had hoped it would be! *fans self*

“Everything about us was wrong and that’s what made it so unexpectedly right.”

When I had the misfortune to read a sentence that began with 'Sure...' I braced myself for a spiral of bad writing - but my word! The prose was gorgeous - so very captivating - the constant push and pull between Phelan's unwavering loyalty and conviction to his religious faith countering Remiel's dismissive and persuasive tone of challenging his own beliefs was so well-balanced! And it wasn't just about the couple's relationship!

There was an actual mystery involved that these two had to unwittingly work together to solve was the most compelling element for me! ✨✨ So many twists and turns, full of so many surprises - shedding light into Phelan's back-story, his very purpose of existing, why Remiel was so very captivated by him - it just compelled me to NOT stop reading till the end!

ggg

“The moment my lips touched his, he ravaged my mouth with his tongue, as hard and fast as I thrust into him. This is what we truly were—not simply demons, but hellfire and preternatural lust, coming together in an explosion of sin and I relished it. I relished him.”

The characters - holy hell, the characters! 🔥🔥 Phelan, the quiet Necromancer librarian - outcast of his congregation and overshadowed with the burden of his mentally ill mother catches the attention of the Remiel, Prince of Hell - possessive, demonic, utterly obsessive of his desire to keep Phelan only by his side. Their relationship was so chaotic, so toxic, absolutely sinful, but it just worked so well for them! 🥰🥰

“He was at war with himself, his piety clashing with a primal need he didn’t yet understand. The realization filled me to the brim with excitement. I’d be his first.

His last. His everything. He was mine, completely.”

v5v

How Remiel kept Phelan captive for a day in his castle in Hell - how he fought and resisted the lust he was feeling for this demon - was so well-described, so very visceral. You could feel the desperation and absolute wretched guilt he had for submitting himself to these unwanted feelings yet a part of him craved it so badly, and he could not understand why! And their chemistry was off-the charts H-O-T - scorching flaming desire of fire. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 Remiel's level of owning Phelan was borderline psychotic and obsessive, but it's a funny thing.

“A Necromancer was just the thing I didn’t know I needed until I set my sights on him.”

anigifagaa

Remiel may have been the worst kind in existence- but he was so twistedly genuine in his craving for him - his toxic desire to have Phelan all to himself. 'Look at him and you're dead, touch him and you'll cease to exist.' 😏 And even when he taunted him with

“I didn’t think you could taste any better, lover, but you proved me wrong. Wickedness suits you.”

to

“So perfect, pet. You feel so good when you’re being so bad.”

That when he fell in love- when he had to give up all else to protect Phelan, to keep him safe from the harm of the demons of Hell that sought to claim him, his final thoughts were

“Still, as I was swept away from the battlefield to my own personal prison in the deepest pits of Hell, I could hear Phelan’s voice over my own tormented screams. Maybe that was as close to Heaven as I’d ever be again.

To have been loved by him, against all odds.”

And Phelan - dear precious Phelan, who only just wanted to do his job the right way - for people to just let him be who he is and not see him in family name only. To be at the mercy of a demon, to have him bring out these primal sinful urges that he could have never possibly fathomed - ones he's resisted for so long. The struggle was so very believable, how much he fought and resisted his charms, hoping against hope that he wouldn't be drawn to the heat of his passion, to somehow find a way to rise above it. 😢😢

My heart just broke for him - for his journey, for his eventual acceptance of who he truly was (honestly, that suspenseful build-up to his past was *chef's kiss), for his struggle to find a way to protect Remiel. Because along the way, with all their bickering, their heated banter, he would catch glimpses to what extent Remiel would go to keep him by his side. That as much as it fueled his desperation to stay away from him - it equally drew him towards him to find a way to help the both of them.

“Heaven forbid something happens to your precious little lamb,” I said, folding my arms over my chest. “Whatever will you do with your days?”

“I’d make Armageddon look like a fucking picnic.”

I blinked at the seriousness of his tone.”

And then, as the two of them steadily worked more and more together to solve the mysteries that were revolving around them, I loved how more relaxed they were becoming, more good-natured, even if there is the under-current of latent obsession, Phelan wasn't blind anymore to how much he meant to Remiel - in his own twisted demonic frame of thinking, he did care for him. 🥺🥺🥺

“Are demons so thoughtful?” I shot him a look out of the corner of my eye, unsure if I meant it as a joke or not.

Remiel smirked. “You mean, are demons so paranoid? Yes.”

“Then why haven’t you given me the sight?” I arched an eyebrow at him.

“You have no need of it,” he replied blithely.

“Why is that? Because I’m a demon?”

“Because I’m not letting you out of mine.”

Their relationship started off in such a backward way from spiteful tormentor and prey, to reluctant allies, unwitting partners, and then finally to kindred spirits who were so very much in love with each other. 💕 It was just so masterfully done - the subtle hints underneath their banter and bickering, the constant resistance on both their parts to embrace their feelings, paved the way to them just opening up for each other - being emotionally invested in securing their safety, protecting their own well-being, it was so beautiful to watch. 💓💓

“I think He”—I glanced up at the ceiling pointedly—“sent you to me. I didn’t understand it back then. I don’t know if I really understand it now, to be honest. But you saw something in me no one else ever did. And I love you for that. I don’t expect you to say anything. I just wanted you to know that’s what I feel.”

I really appreciated being given a list of warnings before reading, because it mentally prepared me for what was to come. And while there was plenty of dirty kinky and filthy sexy times, I wasn't too remotely perturbed by it. Why? Because I KNOW this a dark romance with morally grey characters, who think that their twisted and warped and depraved version of romance makes sense. 😊

What I was a little hesitant to venture into was the blasphemous comments that would be mentioned by the demons from Hell - but, y'know - it was something I had already heard in other forms of media - so it didn't hit me TOO HARD. But, do be mindful of it - if it's a sensitive subject that you would rather not read, then, please do heed the warnings before picking up this book.

“Embrace it, Phelan.”

“The way he whispered my name sent a shiver down my spine, so full of yearning, making him and the feelings inside impossible to discount. How could someone so evil make me feel the things I did? Things I didn’t want to. Things I never imagined for myself in a thousand years. I hated him and I hated what he did, but there was no denying my body’s response to him.

Maybe because I really was a demon…”

But, y'know what I absolutely loved above all else?? Honestly? That despite Remiel's continuous degradation of Phelan's faith, despite him goading him continuously with his lack of conviction, spurning him to accept that God has abandoned him - in the end, for the both of them, for their relationship to survive, to succeed from the evil that was tearing them apart - it was God who still brought them together. 🥹🥹🥹

That trajectory - that absolute spin - it warmed my heart so very much - that Phelan, even when he accepted who he truly was, he didn't let go of his faith - and Remiel, to embrace it at the end, to be blessed by it, too - it just came all together so perfectly for everyone, like a preordained future that had not been set in stone, till Remiel and Phelan did actually meet. 💕💕

“And despite the fact Remiel insisted I was wrong, I still believed God had a plan. He had to. Suffering at the hands of an archdemon, finding forgiveness, falling in love… only the Almighty could have devised such an undertaking because it’s not the life I would have ever chosen for myself. Not in a million years.”

This review probably doesn't offer an inkling into the plot - not even much description to the characters themselves. All I can say, is that this was an incredible read - absolutely fulfilling, compelling characters, and an absolute joy to read. I always appreciate stories when they're written well - and this one blew me away. Special recognition to Kevin the Goat, the much-needed comic relief during these scorching times. ☺️ I can't thank Ashlyn Drewek enough for creating this dark world of magic and intrigue, and for writing a line that resonated so very well within my core —

It's been a couple of months since I picked this up, so I'll put it on hold for now. Maybe I’ll get back to it, or maybe I won’t, we’ll see.

Reading Update:

“I couldn’t remember the last time a witch had given me such trouble. They generally put up more of a fight than humans did, but none of them had ever lasted as long as Phelan.”

Maybe that’s coz all you did was have sex and have him whipped (which he does to himself all the time) let’s face it if you actually wanted to break him you would’ve broken him a long time ago

Where to start? I love the Tennebrose universe that Ashlyn Drewek has created! I want to crawl inside this world and live there. Morally grey characters are my favorite. Add in some possessiveness and enemies to lovers and we have a winning combination. The trifecta!

“I take joy in watching witches suffer, and you suffer so beautifully, Phelan. You have tragedy in your blood.”

Phelan is a necromancer who helps the other dark witches summon and trap demons to be killed. His familiars are spiders and he can talk to them and they do little favors for him. Remiel is a fallen angel, a demon. He crosses paths with Phelan and is immediately drawn to him and wants to know more about him. Remial also wants to know why the witches are systematically summoning and killing his lesser demons. So Remiel does the most logical thing. He kidnaps Phelan and takes him to Hell.

I was going to make that Necromancer mine in every conceivable way until I corrupted the entirety of his being.

Phelan wants to be the best necromancer so he has chosen to follow the old ways and be as pious as possible. Even though Phelan doesn't think he has any active powers, Remiel senses something in him and immediately knows there is more to Phelan, he just isn't sure what it is yet.

I was also intrigued by how strong he was. He was so much stronger than I’d ever known a witch to be, yet he kept the power almost completely undetectable. It seemed he was full of surprises.

Phelan is a research librarian at Tennebrose University and a lot of this story revolves around several old grimoires and rare texts. Phelan also has a bit of a mysterious family history as his mother was put into a psychiatric hospital when he was a little baby. Part of this book is dedicated to figuring out what exactly happened all those years ago as this ties in to what is currently going on with Phelan.

Eventually, as they work together, Phelan comes to see Remiel in a different light. He finds his presence soothing to him and they actually have things in common. What started out with distrust and hate has slowly changed into something more. They have a common goal. They are also very attracted to one another. Even when Phelan is fighting the urge to sin, he can’t help but be attracted to Remiel and give into his carnal desires.

“My little blasphemer. From now on, you have no other god but me. My name should be the only thing on those lips. Yes?” “Yes,” I rasped. “Good. Now get on your knees.”

“I didn’t think you could taste any better, lover, but you proved me wrong. Wickedness suits you.”

The witches in Phelan's own coven think there is something wrong with him and they really do not handle the situation well. This moment really opens Phelan's eyes to some things. Phelan really goes through it in this book, but throughout all of his trials he comes into own and not only realizes his power, but also his place in the world. It is extremely satisfying to watch him grow and transform.

A dark smile curled my lips. He was utterly beautiful in his sorrow. But in his quiet, seething rage? He was absolutely divine.

✦ i absolutely love the whole set up of this world, but i feel like the plotlines themselves need to be tied up way quicker. i felt the same way about the plot in book 1. this just kept going on and on and on. i got bored and wanted it all to be tied up already.
✦ the relationship between the mcs was sadly disappointing overall for me too. the development just wasn't convincing enough for me, considering their whole relationship started out with them being enemies, kidnapping, imprisonment, torture, sexual assault, etc. i just don't see how, when, or where it turned into love.
✦ i didn't particularly care about or like either of the mcs, which made it very difficult to root for them individually or as a couple.

⭐︎ 5+ Stars For An Amazing Second Installment! ⭐︎

First off, heed the warnings going into this. There *is* non-con between the MC's at first. And it's a little dubious for a bit afterward as well. If the non-con is a hard limit, this isn't the book for you.

Also, I tagged major character death, but do not worry it is very temporary. But it does happen. Again, heed the TW's the author gives in the summary and beginning of this book.

Phelan and Remiel are a force of nature together and apart. They have a wildly different dynamic than the first couple - even though they two were enemies to lovers, it's just done in such a different way.

This story takes place in the same town as the first, has all the same supernatural elements and all that, and yet this felt like a completely new, fresh story, holding up on it's own in its own right.

Honestly, you could read this is a standalone. There are some broader world building that you would need the first book for, but the main plot is different and the characters of the first book are background characters in this. I think you could catch up pretty quick while reading this, although it the first book is really good too, so I recommend reading them in order. But if you didn't want to, I think this can be read on its own.

Phelan is seemingly leaving a pretty mundane, ordered life. He's 30, very religious and spends his days at the library doing research day in and day out.

He's also a Necromancer, who can walk in the dreamworld as well as summon demons to earth, for the Congregation to then kill. Which they've been doing for the past year.

Remiel is a very big deal in Hell. He's a prince of Hell, and is very very powerful. He's also at war with his brother, and the demons the Congregation have been killing have all suspiciously been coming from Remiel's realm of hell, which means they're his demons and no other prince's of Hell are having their demon's killed. Or the King of Hell himself, Beliar.

And when a duke of Hell was just recently killed by the Congregation, Remiel is at the place is happened with a general of his, when Phelan comes back to the place it happened, and although he can't see the demons, Remiel can see him.

And he immediately declares that Phelan is his. He remains invisible in the coming days and weeks as he follows Phelan around, watching and getting his boring routine down.

He shows himself looking human to Phelan once, and the chemistry is palpable, although Phelan doesn't let himself register that, as he has been celibate all his life, and is determined to never be with anyone. He's practically a priest without being a priest.

But with what happened with his mother - who seemed to go crazy and almost killed him when he was a baby - Phelan will do anything and everything he can to try not to end up like her.

When, one evening, when the congregation has met again to try to kill another demon, things go awry, and Remiel is there and he finally takes Phelan to the underworld to be his prisoner.

Partly because Remiel wants him for himself and he's a demon prince, so he'll take what he wants, but also he thinks the Congregation is working for his enemy, Hazael, who has been trying to take over his realm, and he wants to get as much information out of Phelan as he can.

These two do not start out in love, that's for sure. While Remiel wants Phelan in a lustful way, it's nothing more than that at first, and he sees him as a pet. Literally calls him that too. He is a demon prince, after all.

But as events unfold, there are crazy twists and turns as truths come to light that have been long buried.

And together, Remiel and Phelan are fiery and passionate and strong willed, as well as prideful. Their chemistry was so good and I absolutely loved all their interactions.

Phelan resists for some time, but he eventually gives into the feelings he has for Remiel. I also absolutely love that trope where one is supposedly 'evil' - and Remiel is bad, but idk if I'd say he's 100% evil - and they'll kill anyone but the one they're in love with. Plus, Remiel is highly possessive and I absolutely love it.

He'll cut anyone who dares touch his Phelan. Or looks at him the wrong way.

And by the end they literally get to spend eternity together, sniping at each other and probably having passionate fights, but at the end of the day, they love each other, and they're it for each other, forever.

I do wish, a teensy tiny bit that Remiel had said 'I love you' back to Phelan by the end, butttt I kind of get why he might not have. Plus we get to see just how much he loves Phelan in his actions, so I wasn't too bummed about it. I'm just greedy for that verbal saying of "i love you" I guess.

But, this was just...perfection. I absolutely loved this, it had my attention from the start and I was enraptured as I read, start to to finish.

Definitely, highly recommend this, I couldn't get enough of it.

Now, I have no idea who the next book could be about - if we are going to get a next one? I have no idea - but whoever it may be, if we get one, I can't wait. This series is just so amazing.

Two MASSIVE thumbs up from me! 😍🥰😘

🎵Dance Macabre by Ghost🎵

I don't know how to start describing to you this book.
And what i felt while reading it.

This is a very dark paranormal m/m romance between a Demon and a Witch.
Miles different from the first book in Tennebrose series, Igni Ferroque is the first novel i read this year that i didn't want to end (but what an ENDING it is).

I will preface this by saying that the entire story is a case of "the villain gets his HEA", this is also one of the few stories where the love interest doesn't somehow 'find his humanity' at the end of their ordeal, as it 'isn't a story of redemption' as per the cover. Remiel is first and foremost a Prince of Hell. His character goes through an arc, sure, but the full dizzyingly massive personality development is reserved for Phelan.

Phelan is a Necromancer witch, with limited Dreamweaver magic, and an unshakeable faith which he practices through self-flagellation, abstinence and overall piety. For his Congregation of Winslow witches, he does his duty by helping them summon and contain demons from this list in one of the books in their possession. One time, the summoning and subsequent demon slaughter ritual goes awry, and Phelan gets abducted by one of the Princes of Hell, Remiel, whose realm all the demons on the Congregation's list seem to hail from.

To make matters worse for Phelan, Remiel is as beautiful as he is ruthless, and as a fallen angel, has no qualms about torture (graphic, on page, almost skipped this part), rape (graphic, on page) and basically getting his way through any and all means available to him. Remiel suspects that the Witches Congregation is in cahoots with his enemies, and tries to get to the bottom of this through Phelan.

Not going to lie, this part is very hard to read and i was shocked, and i read a lot, so it takes a lot to shock me. I was waiting for some kind of consent, which really never comes. Phelan does though, every time, so there's that... This quote really sums up the extent of Remiel's positive traits:
[...] Despite the torture and the overall maltreatment and complete disregard for personal boundaries, he didn't seem to actually want to kill me. - that's as good as it's going to get, girl.

I confirmed through reading this that i am in fact in love with the following themes:
💀Gothic setting
💀Dark woods full of magic (bonus points if there is a portal to Hell, which there is)
💀Latin incantations
💀Mystery and chase of mythical objects
💀Religious / Biblical references
💀Marking of the love interest (branding especially)

Going through my annotations, there is one more remark that sums up the redemption arc for Remiel:
[...] I'd force him to do what I wanted so he could assuage his guilty conscience that the sin was mine alone. Beautifully said, and effective really.

I just have one question, and i'm sure i missed it because i swallowed this book in 2 days in between daily tasks, no chewing, so

Whatever happened to Kevin the Goat?
Do we find out? If you have read this and you know, tell me 🖤

People, go and read this book (at your own risk of course).
Top read of 2024 for me.
Highly recommend.

"A Necromancer was just the thing I didn’t know I needed until I set my sights on him."

Damn, Ashlyn Drewek, Igni Ferroque may be your finest work yet, and that's saying something; this book is totally divine.

Whilst Igni Ferroque isn't a follow-up to Malum Discordiae per se, I would strongly recommend that you read Malum first, because Igni is set in the same world and gives the reader an amazing introduction to the Tennebrose universe. You will also meet some of the characters from Malum in Igni.

Igni Ferroque is Phelan and Remiel's story and it's a dark, MM, paranormal read. Phelan is a Necromancer, dedicated to the 'old ways', completely focused on mastering demonic magic despite being frowned upon and rejected by most of the witches and necromancers in his community. He bounces from one crisis to another. He has kept himself 'pure' and dedicated to the cause, but you get the feeling from the start that there is something more to Phelan, something waiting to be unleashed, both at the physical and the supernatural level.

"He was vile and malicious. And every time he put his hands on me, my heart spasmed in my chest."

Remiel is a demon, a prince of Hell, hugely powerful - practically omnipotent, manipulative, sexual, totally immoral and ancient beyond imagining. There isn't much that interests or excites Remiel anymore, not even the war brewing in the underworld. Until he comes across Phelan. Something about the mild necromancer ignites him on every level and the results are nothing short of explosive.

"A dark smile curled my lips. He was utterly beautiful in his sorrow. But in his quiet, seething rage? He was absolutely divine."

Ashlyn Drewek tells us it straight off the bat - this is not a tale of redemption. Igni Ferroque is set in a dark, paranormal world of demons and witches and necromancers. There is no place for human morality. The author has made the warnings very clear for us - Igni Ferroque contains non-con/dub-con, kidnapping, torture, bloodplay - the list goes on, so do be warned. Nothing is romanticised, it's real and raw and confronting and MAGNIFICENT.

The research that Ashlyn Drewek clearly puts into her books is beyond compare. You literally feel as though you are living and breathing Tennebrose. The world building is exceptional and these characters are sublime - Remiel is so divinely evil, such a guilty pleasure, I just want to inhale him and swallow him down like a fine wine. Pun intended 😈. Phelan's character ark is inspired, that boy is nothing short of a phenomenan. I couldn't love their f*cked up relationship more.

"He was a paradox, as always. My tormentor and my salvation, who made sinning feeling like a dream."

I honestly cannot say enough good things about Igni Ferroque. You NEED to read this, if you love:

🖤MM dark romance
🖤Dark paranormal
🖤Enemies to lovers
🖤Non-con/Dub-con
🖤Forbidden
🖤Demonic mythology
🖤Torture/blood play
🖤Red hot steam
🖤Amazing world-building and storyline

Igni Ferroque is a five star + read for me and is out now!

Igni Ferroque is one of the best dark romances I have ever read. Phelan and Remiel are amazingly dynamic characters and even more fascinating together due to their vast differences. Phelan is a shy librarian necromancer who is used to living his life by following the rules and remaining devoted to his faith. Remiel is the exact opposite in personality and belief due to his demonic nature where he operates purely on instinct. Together they are quite a fiery pair due to their intense personality clashes and belief system, which is why they are perfect complements to one another.

One of my favorite aspects of this story is the relentless pursuit of Phelan on Remiel's part. He does not believe in the word "no" and consent is a silly concept to him, making for such intense push/pull scenes with Phelan. Another fantastic element of this story is Phelan's character arc. His character growth is one of the best I have ever read. How he accepts his role in this paranormal world is so fascinating and well-constructed I was in awe at its conclusion.

Another winning aspect of this story is its fantastically morally grey romance. This relationship is possessive, violent, and unhealthy at times, while also having intense devotion, affection, and passion. Phelan and Remiel are complicated characters and it seems fitting that their romance would be just as unconventional.

Overall I am in awe of this story and when I initially finished it I was a bit speechless. I found it masterfully written that gives you a well-earned HEA in the darkest possible way. Another winning entry in this addicting Tennebrose universe. I love every aspect of this universe and cannot wait to see what comes next.

“Remember,” Remiel said with a sudden seriousness as he pulled me to my feet, “there’s no talking in the library. Which means no screaming.”

After loving Malum Discordiae I was looking forward to more dark academia romance goodness with its sequel. And Igni Ferroque more than delivered on that, with the intensity dialled riiiight up to 100.

It's such a different vibe than the first book in the best possible way. It's darker and grittier, and is as violent as you can expect from a romance between a necromancer and a literal demon prince. Igni Ferroque is enemies to lovers in the truest form, and Ashlyn Drewek did an amazing job with their dynamic and making it work. Phelan and Remiel's romance was so intense and I loved every second of it.

Igni Ferroque further confirms Tennebrose as a series I'll be eagerly waiting for the next release. With the direction this book took, it has me excited for what's to come.

“You are a curious creature, Phelan Oliver.”

“One of these days, demon, I’ll kill you for this,”
“I love the way you lie to me.”

Amazing dark paranormal romance.
Loved the possessive vibes, the characters, the tension, the world-building. I can’t think of one thing I didn’t thoroughly enjoy about this book.

The plot flowed very nicely and I definitely did not want to put this down. Ashlyn Drewek really knows how to keep the reader on the edge of their seats and rooting for these morally grey characters.

My tormentor and my salvation, who made sinning feel like a dream.

CW and tropes(spoilers):
- Demon vs Necromancer
- Enemies to lovers
- Dark academia vibes
- Dub-con
- Virgin MC
- Vers MCs
- Intercrural
- ‘I had nowhere else to go’ trope
POV: 1st person, dual

5/5 audio

This was so good I want to bash my head against the wall . I simply was not prepared for how much I was going to love this.

A Demon prince , Remiel( basically Sephiroth) becomes obsessed with this necromancer & drags him to hell .

I loved all the twist and turns, the 🌶️ & the possessiveness.

Cw: this is a captor captive enemies to lovers dark romance & its a lot darker than I thought it was going to be so be mindful. It has Noncon/dubcon/graphic violence

This can be read as a standalone

This book have sexual abuse, torture, it's a dark romance, if you can call it that.

The book in itself is not bad, but I think reading this after reading another big book was a mistake. Have in mind that this book is long, and the writing is stiff, even after that I enjoy the minimum for the tree stars rate. If you like dark mm this can be for you

This was definitely an S tier read for me. Phelan and Remiel were a crazy combination of disturbing, toxic, hot, weirdly romantic, and weirdly perfect. This story was even darker than the first book in the series, and I think I ended up liking it even more.

It was filled with twists and turns, mystery, and action. I loved the ending and the way Ashlyn did the HEA for Remiel and Phelan.

I was the lucky recipient of an ✨audiobook arc✨.
I read the first book in the series a while ago and I fell in love with this world and this author. Her writing is so good and her character so well-rounded. I couldn't pass the opportunity to have Michael Gallagher and JF Harding read it to me. Phelan came alive as the tortured Necromancer that he is and Remiel was...well I have a soft spot for cocky demons, so he was perfect.
As I expect of Drewek, she doesn't pull her punches in the violence/gore/extreme moments, but as always, it wasn't triggering for me (but it might be for you, so beware of TW because it gets rough out there). The cover says "This isn't a tale of redemption" and I couldn't be happier, because my religious trauma was screaming at me (and at Phelan, ffs my man, stop with the self-flagellation, literally). What I appreciate most about this author is that I can never predict where the story is going. I had some ideas, but, let me tell you, I wasn't ready for all the twist and turns. I don't want to spoil the plot AT ALL, but my dudes, you aren't ready either. Enjoy the ride.
I loved my little cameos from characters from the previous book, especially Graeme and Cassius (hello bbs). And Ainsworth, because he is just the best.
I usually listen to audiobooks while I drive to and from work, and I was grateful for heavy traffic and traffic jams so I didn't have to stop listening.

5+++++ incredible stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved this just as much as I loved the first book.

This book was prefaced with a warning, including a massive laundry list of trigger warnings, and I quote..."This will offend most most people". Awesome. lol

Loved the story, the characters, the details, the writing . Hot as he'll 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Listened on audiobook, and it was perfect 👌

2.5 ⭐️? Maybe? I have such mixed feelings on this one…

🏳‍🌈 Demons
🏳‍🌈 Possessive MC
🏳‍🌈 Noncon & Dubcon
🏳‍🌈 Enemies to lovers? Maybe captor to lovers? 🤷🏽‍♀️

The world is fabulous. I just didn't enjoy the book as much as the first one. Maybe I should have purchased it on audiobook... a few GR friends mentioned the audiobook was well done. It might have made me like the story better.

So it's nice to see an actual noncon without some sort of weird mental gymnastics from the author to make it be something it's not. It does morph into dubcon and that was where I actually started to have my first "eh..." thoughts. The first time Phelan tries to initiate anything it just felt written weird. He's supposedly doing it to try and get free but the writing didn't shore up the actions. Something was just missing from the story there that I wanted. I wanted more of his internal dialogue on why he was doing it.

Then some of the scenes felt written at a feverish pace, like it was a frantically scribbled outline instead of a solid chapter/scene. The chapel where the felt that way to me. But then other chapters dragged on forever and ever without feeling like anything was happening. I wanted a consistent pace. At least it isn't 754 pages like Pucking Around is. So there was some editing going on. I just wished there was a consistent flow to how it was written instead of super slow to super frantic.

Also, Phelan is a bit of a drama queen after he finds out . Which I guess is understandable. But it felt weirdly out of character for him. But then again, maybe not. Maybe that was his breaking point and his drama queen was ready to come out and play lol.

Also there are huge gaps in both the story and the magic. Let's address the magic first. You find out they can summon books to them towards the end of the story. Why didn't they just use this to summon the book with all the demons names in it? Why? There were a million times something could have been summoned to help one of them out but they didn't use it. And as for story problems... And don't get me started about his

Despite this, Imma continue on with the series. Just not right now. Going to read a few others before I loop back around.

This one is hard to rate and review.

On one hand, I really enjoyed the continued world building and all the intricate details within the story. The overall story was intriguing and definitely kept me on my toes.

On the other hand, the content warnings are no joke, and I just couldn’t get past the multiple, multiple scenes of rape and violence between the MC’s. I think maybe only one or two intimate scenes in the book can be considered fully consensual, all the rest were either dubcon or fully noncon.

I almost stopped reading in the beginning when Remiel had Phelan brutally whipped until his back was just chunks of skin and blood, and then raped him afterwards.

For that moment on, I was very detached from the actual “romantic” pairing in the book. Again, the story itself was intriguing and very well done, but I could never be a fan of Remiel or Remiel and Phelan together.

Make no mistake, there was very little romance in this book, so if you’re looking for an emotional connection between the two MC’s, you won’t find that here.

This would have been a 5-star read for me if the non-con elements didn’t exist and if there was a development of romance. Alas, I’m settling this at a (generous) 3 stars.

“… until the end of days.” 👁️🫦👁️

After reading the first Tennebrose book, I really didn't expect this one to be so dark--and that's exactly what I wanted! A toxic romance between two natural enemies, a Catholic Necromancer and a demon prince? chef's kiss.
REMIEL BRING ME TO HELL 🗣️🗣️

The plot was engaging and the atmosphere was HOT and creepy and so blasphemous. I love dark romance, so I personally enjoyed it BUT before reading it I would recommend to read the TWs since the story contains elements that might bother you.

Anyway, I really hope more stories will be released, I have grown fond of the Tennebrose universe! 🫶🏻🫶🏻

And btw, I’M SO HAPPY ABOUT KEVIN 🐐✨🐐✨

It started so good, so good and then: The worst Stockholm Syndrome. EVER!

So much theology talking, so much action, the “romance” was so undeveloped. If you can call That a romance. When did the MCs fall in love? Why? There were no feeling there, no emotions involved.

At some point it became so boring, I just wanted to be over with it.

I’m disappointed. This was nothing like the first book.

I don't know what happened, it had so much potential.
I'm still disappointed we didn't more about the world-building, things weren't much explained and, the religious side was way too much present. I get it, it's a Necromancer thing, but am I reading about a priest or a witch?
I might be dumb but I wasn't thinking that noncon was actually rape. So when that happened, I kinda gave up in liking the MCs or the story. And what kind of torture is that? Just another reason for Remiel to fuck Phelan. Am I reading Erotica? (Which I don't mind, but I want to know when it's one)

Anyway the plot wasn't plotting and when it was, I was left speechless. When was it a good idea to make

I am extremely torn on how to rate this...some solid five star moments but also some moments of confusion and plot-holey-ness will probably make this a good four stars.

Content warnings are right at the beginning of the book which are to be taken seriously. All that being said I didn't find this to be very dark and the noncon also didn't feel that non-con-y?

I did not always expect where the plot was taking me and I'm not sure if that was a good thing or not.
At the beginning of the book there is a lot of sex and a lot less towards the end when it's no longer the same power imbalance as it was at the beginning.
The enemies side of things feels forced BUT it makes sense! As we have a sort of fated mates thing going on here and witchy boy Phelan wants to hate demon Remiel, wants to hate how he makes him feel but he can't quite get there.

My two major 'huh' moments:
-
-

My favourite moments:
- The WINGS! I'm always disappointed when wings are underutilised and here they create perfect moments of intimacy <3
- How Phelan treats Kevin, the goat (- The possessiveness and obsession
- Phelan learning to believe in himself

Some quotes
"Oh, God's not going to save you. No, I'm afraid no one is. You're mine, Phelan Oliver, until the end of days." (p. 71)

"I felt him everywhere. All around me. Inside of me. I didn't know what was physical and what was mental anymore, where he stopped and I began." (p. 102)

"So much trust for someone who says they hate me."
"I do hate you," I said, even though my words lacked any venom.
"As much as I hate you, I imagine," he murmured, kissing the side of my neck. (p. 313)
