Vampires are taking over the French Quarter. Ofelia Archer was hoping for a break, a stretch of quiet time to enjoy the opening of her brother’s new bar, but the sight of vampires walking the rooftops one evening, tracking her, makes her wary. Then, the next morning, when a body is dropped in front of a famous vampire house, things in the Quarter take a turn. Ofelia’s dealt with vampires before, but there’s something different about this fang gang. She’s confused enough to Are they really dealing with vampires, or something else entirely? Zach Sully, Ofelia’s fiancé and a local police detective, starts digging. It seems there’s more than one dead body afoot…and possibly a conspiracy to hide multiple deaths. Ofelia’s team is prepared to figure out the truth, even if it means putting themselves in danger to do it. When the new enemy focuses on her father Oscar, however, Ofelia goes on the offensive. The French Quarter is a place where things frequently go bump in the night. This fight is about to get bloody, however. In more ways than one.
But let down with this one, Ophelia and Sully are wonderful (as usual) as are the other regular characters but I felt the. "Villans" of this.story left a lot to be desired. There was no sense of danger or much of a mystery and the ending well I found it a bit.if a.non issue, in fact the final fight isn't a fight at all and ends off page. Still good fun but not one.I will want re visit.............
The end was strangely… touching. I actually began to tear up.
As always, great read by Hart. I also found out something about Lee and Hart today and it was suspicions confirmed. I noticed the writing style and even the characters are similar in the two ladies books, so I did a little research and found out why. Let’s just say they’re two with the same body.
Anyway, in this read it’s all about vampyres and they are attempting to get Oscar in his hospital room. And a women’s body is found on a doorstep for everyone to see in the French Quarter. Ofelia goes searching for the culprit or clues and comes across a handsome male named Blade who has a cocky attitude and too much knowledge of Ofelia and her family that makes her very uncomfortable and very p’d off. He also disguises what he is and Ofelia doesn’t like not knowing things, so she makes sure to respond to him in her very snarky tone.
She goes to her normal sources to find out more about Blade and the recent influx of vampyres. Pascal himself is a vampire and Ofelia’s “adopted” dad, so he promises to help figure things out.
And of course there’s Ofelia’s very hot and very protective panther shifter fiancé Sully helping move things along.
There’s a lot of eating of French cuisine and drinking new concoctions. In fact, I’m reminded that Ofelia’s brother Felix and she were in a two person contest to see which sibling could create the best alcoholic drink. That contest never happened, so I wonder who did win - maybe Felix!
There’s a Speakeasy and a feeding room. Ofelia and Sully go for a walk looking for Blade and other vampyres on the boardwalk and when Blade is found, he uses his usual cocky attitude and an allure to get Ofelia to kiss him. In front of Sully! What. The. Heck?!? You know Sully wants to kill Blade now! But after a conversation, Ofelia learns that Blade isn’t much of a threat, rather there is another someone in charge of the vampyres. A powerfully unknown someone, but probably a female someone.
Ofelia needs to stop the killings of women in the French Quarter and her first step is finding who the leader is and then omit her/him.
I love the relationships Ofelia has formed and her dedication to those people. The one between her and Pascal is very special and their interactions are really sweet.
My next book is by Barbara Davis - The Echo of Old Books: A Novel
highly entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series
This is a highly entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a awesome storyline. Ophelia archer is a powerful witch in New Orleans. She runs a bar called the crew. She bought it from her father who owned it before her. Her brother Runs another bar called archer not far away on Bourbon Street. Her brother is not magical but he is a unique individual. Her fiancé is Detective Soli with the New Orleans Police Department. He is a panther shifter and is part of the paranormal unit as well as a normal detective. They are tasked with dealing with any paranormal issues in New Orleans. I figure has a bunch of different allies including a vampire that poses as a human pretending to be a vampire in his shop in New Orleans. Typically most paranormal‘s do not cause much trouble in mind your own business. Yet just like any other species there are bad apples in a group. Now there seems to be a young vampire problem in the city with new vampires causing issues. Ophelia and Soli must figure out what is going on who is in charge and stop them before too much more happens. When Pascal goes out to do some information hunting on his own and he doesn’t come back, can the magic at Ophelia’s fingertips and from her community come through to help take care of her second father, while she continues to worry about her first father?
I absolutely loved this story. The main part of the book was fantastic, as always with any LHH book, but the secondary storyline blew me away. Ofelia is grappling with so much guilt about her father being in a treatment program for his mental health issues. She's determined to help him, but it is a long and difficult process that is hard for all of them. I love that the author keeps things so real regarding Oscar's journey and how it affects everyone else in his life.
As for the main storyline, Ofelia and Sully have a tough job trying to figure out what's going on, and the answers don't come easy. When all is said and done, they take care of things, but not without some problems along the way. All in all, another great book by LHH.
If others have read this far I don't think I'm giving anything away by saying that each book only covers about two weeks and you haven't even made it to Halloween yet and I'm guessing from your other books that you will end with the wedding I would personally like to see more than a year of their lives.. Since the next book isn't do to be released until December I will probably put it on my wish list but not get anymore of them until you have finished. If you had better cover art that didn't look like it was for a third grade level I think you'd sell many more books.
This series is a fun series with the exception of how mental illness can affect a community. In that regard I applaud Ms. Hart for educating her readers on this subject. Aside from that this book brought more characters in that I feel we may see in the future & also touched on a group of white potentially racist women that I think we are going to see more in the next book. I love how this book is a fun read while also educating us on real issues we are facing as a society! This series is a must read especially if you love a strong female lead and lots of sarcasm.
Join Ophelia and Sully as they learn about a new breed of vampires that are in the neighborhood running two different clubs and maybe also killing people. Something is not right with this group and it’s up to Ophelia to take care of her city and find out what is really going on with Sully by her side and even Pascale helping to find the truth. So join them on their journey by buying this book and reading this new adventure they are on.
H extraordinary Circumstances (A Super national Speak easy Cozy Mystery book 12 by Lily Harper Hart
This was another winner. I highly recommend all her books and different series. She has a great imagination and a great cast of characters. If you love paranormal mysteries you will love this Author. This series has been one of my favorites. I love this series and cast of characters. Diana Romano
Enjoyed this one. I like seeing the character growth and love how Sully and Ophelia interact. Pascal is one of my favorite side characters. Lots of love and forward momentum in relationships. Summary covers basics. Don't want to give spoilers. Looking forward to next in series.
Fe and Sully are my favorites in the LHH universe. A terrific couple with an amazing location and friends that are a little bit of everything. This book was perfect because of Pascal's involvement, he is one of my favorite characters, and the storyline was , as always, amazing.
Krewe and Felix' new place Archer. Ofelia and Sully protect Oscar and Percy. White walkers invade the quarters, and wonder why people keep likening them to Game of Thrones while not recognizing them as garden variety racists. Is there room for a #13?
I love this series! I could hardly wait for it to be released. I love the characters and that the mental illness is worked into the story with compassion to everyone involved. There is also a lot of fun in it too! I won’t mind trying so of the drinks the creat either. Would definitely recommend the series.
This book is a favorite in this series so far. I really enjoyed it. It's great that the characters continue to be developed and grow (not Marie, her character [on purpose] doesn't grow as a person, as she is meant to be impressionable and a follower) I wish for more Angilique though. She is entertaining.
I have so enjoyed seeing Fe and Sully grow together in every way. I love that Ms. Hart is taking on mental illness and how real it is. I want, no I need this series to never end. I could say more but I don’t want to spoil this book for others! Just read it, you won’t regret it!
I love this Series, the storyline and characters are excellent! This book didn't disappoint, I was sorry to come to the end. Between Oscar's situation, and the new vampires to deal with Sully and Fe had a lot on their plates. Reading these books make you feel the magic of the French Quarter.
I love this book and I love Ms. Hart's sense of humor!! Her stories flow easily and keep you entertained. I never felt like there was a lull in the story or a lot of unnecessary filler. She is a very gifted and creative author. You won't be sorry to buy this book.
Another fun story from the supernatural speakeasy series. A good story that had a small twist. I enjoy all the characters but I do wonder how Ophelia and Sully don’t weigh 300lbs yet!? I also have a craving for bananas foster! Looking forward to the next story in the series.
These books just keep getting better n BETTER!!! OHMYGOSH!!! This one was sooooo gooood!!!! I LOVE a good mystery with some fun n laughs thrown in . This one had a lot of Pascal in it too!! LOVE Pascal. He is something else!! funny, LOVE it when he slips up on Sully -not totally intentionally but vampires are stealthy and Sully's reactions.
Such a great book but PASCAL!? I had a little heart attack at first. I'm also curious if the doctor is going to have some more time next book because of things. I'm trying hard not to have real spoilers. As always I love learning about the different restaurants and places in NOLA as I don't live to far and can visit the places
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I do enjoy the series overall. This one really didn't have too much mystery or conflict, which made it a little slow. The bits that were there were pretty quickly resolved. I was expecting more with the "vampire nest" build up, but it was pretty weak on that focus. More storyline involving Oscar makes me think they'll resolve his hospital stay in the next book.
An underground speakeasy, A new bar called "Vampyre". And bodies with their throat torn out but lots of blood around the bodies. New vampires are in town and they are causing quite a stir. When they try to convince Ofelia's father to open his hospital window, a war is declared... by Ofelia. The vamps are weak, but being controlled by something else. Can Ofelia win?
This is one of my favorite in the Lily Harper Hart line-up, though I have thoroughly enjoyed them all. She definitely knows how to keep you guessing. Can’t wait for the next installment.
Must Read! Vampires, shifters and one Bad A** Witch!
I have read each book that Ms Hart has written. Her books are thrilling, fantistical and loaded with great characters. This is a book is a 5 star read "witch" you will read it in one sitting.
This may be my favorite series from Hart! I love the interaction of these characters but I do have to be honest and say that while the ending was perfect for Ofelia and Oscar it was very anticlimactic for the villain and Pascal. I've noticed that on a few of these books, I loved the storylines but they fizzle at the end a little. I still would highly recommend reading each book and while I read from the beginning of a series its not necessary.
New Orleans has a new crop of blood suckers! "Fe" and Sully are trying to figure out who and why they are there. With her Father in Hospital they find this new faction is taunting him at night, but why? The body count is going up and the story just keeps getting better!
This is a great series with situations that at times seems to be intense. The characters fall into areas that are very personal for some.readers. The storytelling is just so good.
I have loved this series from the beginning but it keeps getting better! The relationships between Ofelia and all of the men in her life are so important to the story. The ending was really touching and makes me look forward to the next book.
Loved it! I am a big fan of the couple and their friends! This time an unexpected turn with a strong supernatural in trouble, unexpected that one to need help. Cannot wait fro the next in this series and other series by this Author!
This story is one outstanding combination os the supernatural, a great what done it, and a couple in love facing a real challenge. Not to mention a father who need mental help and keeps fighting it.
