I've only made one thing from this book (the Safiya trousers) but holy cow they were so easy and look amazing. I've never sewn clothes before, and these directions are so clear and the pictures are incredibly helpful. I have fabric for a second pair of trousers (no pocket this time -- I want a quicker project) and I just bought some fabric to make the Tabitha drawstring dress. I definitely take longer than the pattern says, but that's because I'm going super slow! Taking my time, trying to make everything nice and even. Hooray! Recommended!
A great resource for beginners and more experienced sewers alike, this book is a great guide to some simple projects. The patterns are easy to follow with useful tips. Importantly, the sizing chart is accurate in regards to choosing the right pattern size, something many commercial patterns fail to do (providing way too much ease). I have made 2 projects from this book thus far and was pleasantly suprised at how few adjustments I needed to make, I even did away with making toiles. The projects took longer than the estimated time however #slowsewing is my thing. Highly recommend.
I love the patterns and ideas in this book. However, it still intimidated me quite a bit as I'm picking up sewing after being relatively dormant for 12 years (other than a couple of really easy projects). I wouldn't necessarily call this a beginning sewers book, but rather someone with comfort & confidence in sewing.
I haven't made anything from this book yet, so I might adjust my rating depending on how that goes. I'm eager to make things from this book, though, even though most of them aren't quite my style. That says a lot, because there are a lot of sewing books out there that I have read and really wanted to make things from, but I was too intimidated by them. This book is so accessible. The patterns are advertised as easy and they really seem like they will be. I've already printed two of them up and I'm super excited to try them out with fabric in my stash.
The photos are lovely and mostly clear (a few things here and there that I puzzled over.) I love the consistent color scheme, though that is irrelevant to the instructions; it's just a cute touch. I didn't have a huge interest in Tilly and the Buttons before reading this book, but I will definitely be purchasing more of their patterns if these ones go well. I love the aesthetic and the sort of welcoming vibe that I don't feel often in sewing books. I'm not a beginner, but I took a years-long break from sewing and have had a bit of trouble jumping back in. This book made me feel more confident, and I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with it!
I'll try to remember to update after I actually make the items.

Good book, good advice. Co versstional writing style is engaging and the material interesting.
Tilly is amazing. This book really makes it simple. If you do not know much and are daunted at the prospect of facing a sewing machine this is definetly a go-to book. On top, Tilly offers so much advice online: on her blog, on Instagram, on youtube. There's sewalongs where you can follow every step of the process. Really, if you have a passion for sewing, embrace it. There's no excuse with this book <3
Love this but the patterns overlap each other and are really hard to comprehend when tracing. I know these can be printed but I had hoped to not need to do this
