New Version March 1 2012: Professionally edited, this taut, fast-paced suspense thriller, reflecting the political realities of current events, details a week-long, action-packed journey that culminates in a stunning conclusion in Dubai. It depicts the personal journey and physical dangers a woman must take on to save the man she loves -- and to save the world.
Jill is a terrorist profiler for the US Marshal Special Operations Group and former Remote Viewer for the FBI. When her new husband David, a war correspondent for Time, disappears while on assignment in the Middle East, Jill embarks upon a journey deep into the region to find him.
Deception and danger plague her every move. Her only hope is the help of a mysterious and handsome Arabian man who escorts her to the foothills on the Turkmenistan/Afghanistan border. Ultimately, however, Jill is left on her own in a sinister web of intrigue. As she overcomes both fear of external dangers and her internal demons, she learns what true deception really is.
The protagonist, Jill Oliver, is a contemporary American heroine--a fresh new take on the popular type of action hero previously embodied by Jack Bauer of the hit series "24" and the characters of Tom Clancy, James Patterson and other bestselling authors.

“I remember contacting the U.S. Marshal Service to ask what type of gun they used. Yikes—they were VERY curious about who I was and why I wanted to know. One of my more... ummmm... intense moments while researching for this series.”
“Living in the mind of a serial killer scares the &%#@ out of me!” Judith admits while developing PRIMAL DECEPTION: A Jill Oliver Novel.
I purchased this book for the primary reason the plot was supposed to have been in Turkmenistan. Although the country is mentioned, it is only a blip. Nothing to even mention, let alone include in a World Challenge It started out good with U.S. Marshal Jill finishing up a terrorism case. She shows herself as confidant, professional and well skilled. She is trained and skilled as a FBI Remote Viewer - a sort of psychic reader. I was under the presumption the FBI do use people with interesting "skills". Her new husband, a journalist has gone missing. She goes off in search of him. She uses her Abilities to help find him and gets into a much more complicated situation. At times, I really liked this book as it had all sorts of bad guys, hair-raising taxi rides, scary night chases. But other times, it felt unrealistic. The ending was a rush job and a cheap shot cliff hanger that was not appreciated. It is unlikely, I will return for Books 2 or 3. EDIT 4/6/2020 realized she was suppose to have been in Dubai as well? Not enough to remember!
A good book. a few references to some British and Canadian elements that aren't well known stood out to me. They didn't fit the main character well. A bong and a hooka are similar but technically different. I've been over there and saw hookas being used, not bongs.
These didn't detract from the book but I kind of found them mildly distracting.
The first book in a series featuring Jill Oliver, terrorist profiler, former FBI remote viewer. When Jill’s husband, a journalist, goes silent whilst covering a story in the Middle East, she follows him, knowing something is amiss. Deception, intrigue & danger follow her throughout her mission.
This book had a lot of investigating and some action scenes in it. I really liked how Jill was always moving and seemed to motivated to find her husband. Although the trip was a harsh one to look for her husband, some of the clues that she found were confusing to me too. Also, the ending didn't really answer my questions or conclude anything at all for me, it was leading me to the second book. I'll be looking forward to reading the second book though!!
Great book, great main character! Jill Oliver is an ex Remote Viewer for the FBI -- an ability inherited from her Navajo granmother. She has PTSD from a traumatic torture session and so is now a US marshall. Her new husband, a journalist goes missing and she decides to find him. She starts out in Doha, his last known location and the tale spins from there. Well played.
It took me almost a year to read this novel. For me that is a record. it simply was not the addictive page turner I had hoped for. Having said that I will take a look at the prequel novil Primal Deception and hopefully the story makes more sense to me as things are tied together.
