Why have I been waiting so long after I finish the book to post the review? *smh at myself*

This was my first read by Shyla Colt, and I dug it! It was a suspenseful mix of Sci-Fi, Horror, some Paranormal(ish) themes of fated mates, and toward the end a solid Romance. The heroine, Zasha, is awesome, and Phelan the (alien) hero is a great character as well.

The first 2/3rds set up the world and MC's background while we follow along with some pretty nasty (and weird) murders. This part of the book had an Urban Fantasy feel to it, and it kinda made me miss the first season of Sleepy Hollow, lol. With the no-nonsense, kick-butt woman in law enforcement, and a male MC who, while he's more than capable, is a bit out of his element in our world. Oh, and he's hella sexy.

SOMEONE MAKE THIS A SHOW. *@'s Netflix*

Lol, but I digress. :D

There was a fair amount of typographical errors throughout, and though it took me away from the story from time to time, the characters/plot is so strong it becomes no biggie. And certain sections could have benefited from a little bit more explanation/some cuts were choppy, but that sometimes is just a preference thing from reader to reader.

In the last 3rd of Zasha and Phe's story, we switch firmly to the Romance portion of our programming, and that was done well, too.

Fantastic characters and a gripping story. I'll def read more from this author. ☺

*I don't really think that this book is a 5, but it definitely wasn't a 1, so I padded my numbers a bit to come up with a number I like. ;-)*

Is it me, or does every other paranormal book you pick up involve a mating heat that the main characters are helpless to control? What happens when you find your mate, but the timing sucks…major?

Shyla Colt has written a fresh take on finding a mate. When Phelan found his mate, he immediately recognizes The Wanting for what it is. He also knows that his mate is too young, so he waits. Years of crushing on her old professor don’t make finding out he’s her destined mate any easier for Zasha. She has her own reasons for running from the Wanting.

This was my first Shyla Colt read and I’m not going to lie, I did have some readability issues early on, but that was editorial stuff. The premise of this book was great; the dialog highly erotic and the overall pace for the romance nice.

I look forward to more from this author in the future and have no doubt she will be a strong voice within the paranormal genre.

I can't believe it! I actually dislike a Shyla Colt book! What started out with promise became a hot, jumbled mess full of straining nipples. So, so many straining nipples.... To her defense, this book was written in 2011. Her new work is LIGHTYEARS better with solid editing. This series deserves a rewrite so that true storytelling can take place. A story with not so many straining nipples.

Shyla Colt hits the passion nail on the head with a novella of racial boundaries that prove love conquers all and "little green men" are really gorgeous Alpha males that know how to claim their mate.

The first thing I noticed was the editing problem. It really needs to be fixed but as I read more the story overpowered. Those who are strict with the editing might have a problem with this book.

I enjoyed this fast read as I couldn't put The Wanting down. The secondary characters were set up with enough content to build the sequels and I liked them immediately. This was fun, exhilarating, and successfully checked the boxes I look for in a “keeper”of a book. Bravo! I look forward to the next books in this series.

Great concept & interesting ideas..
I would have given it more stars if it didn't have so many spelling errors/problems... That made it difficult for me read it and in some areas it was too wordy which it made it difficult for the flow of conversations between the characters.

Great paranormal read

I really enjoyed this story as it is an exciting start to a new series. The action, the aliens and the adventures gave this story a real suspenseful feel. Both protagonists have this wonderful chemistry, of course l part of the wanting. How both protagonists navigate around their feelings while solving some strange murders is the crux of g his tale. It certainly has potential a n d I will be reading the next book in the series. However, it does need some editing. Names changed from Kade to Kale. Some sentences did not make sense. This Nov e l deserves a serious editing just to e ensure t this really enjoyable story makes sense, particularly as it is the start is a new series. It has got to be interesting. I shall be reading the next book in the series. I look forward to many more in this series, Ms. Colt.

Quick enjoyable read

Phelan, alien D’Shar King liaises with Zasha team leader for the P.I.U. to keep aliens from committing crimes against humanity. For five years they’ve worked together with an underlying attraction between them. Now an evil so putrid has started creating mutants and taunting the royals and the P.I.U. As they strive to put an end to the terror but time has run out as an unknown evil stalks Zasha. Phelan can’t stop the mating fever he has suppressed and hidden for years as he has already waited centuries to find his mate and queen. I like how strong Zasha is as she grew up in the foster system when her mother was murdered by an alien. Her attraction to Phelan has also been building but with the new threat they are thrown together in close contact lighting a slow burn toward uncontrolled passion. I look forward to the next in the series.

Good

Interesting and delightful full of charming characters including so called monsters, I’m not a college grad but somethings were wrong about the writing. Anyway I liked it in spite of certain aspects. Thanks...

The cover of this books looks suspicious close to corn 🌽 and the story was pretty short but it was a fun read to pass the time.

This is not a terrible book but it had potential to be much more. The basic concept is interesting but nothing is given anywhere near the amount of time wit would take to fully flesh out the world or the characters. Zasha's team and occupation are mentioned repeatedly but you never get an idea why this is important (you are told but it never feels real). The conflict in the relationship isn't given enough time. The relationship isn't given much time. I love science fiction. I love IR romances, this combined the two in away that left me wanting (I tried to resist but I couldn't).

I'm on the fence

This is definitely Not Ms. Colt's usual work. So it goes without saying, that this book was not what was expected. It's not a bad story. It's just not the hot and heavy romances that I really look forward to reading from Ms. Colt.
This was a Sci - Fi Mystery with a little romance sprinkled in as an after thought. Which is how I felt after reading it. I'm really not sure if I want to continue the series ( if there is one).

Good

I liked that the sci-fi/fantasy part of the book seemed developed. Things were able to happen independent of the romance, which works in favor of future books. The romance part was sweet. I don't want to say it took a long time to start, because everything about it seemed like it happened as fast as it could considering there's a bad guy Zasha and Phelan are chasing down. The romance ends in an HEA but the bad guy story would have to continue in other books.

I enjoyed this book. I hope the author intends to write about each of the brothers mentioned in the D'Shar family. To be honest there were some minor spelling and grammatical errors, however this is a great read and I instantly fell in love with hero/heroine Phelan & Zasha.

Zasha

I love the developing relationship of the hero and the heroine . This sci-fi, urban fantasy takes us in a world where aliens and people can work together and live together especially with a major threat is looming them.

Interesting

Nice book with a difference. Nice that they took time to get to know each other before declaring love. However there are quite a few editing issues. Will still read part 2

Entertaining but a disappointing read.

I like the characters and the story but the numerous grammar and spelling errors kept me from enjoying the read.
