Angela's Rainbow

Rate this book
Johnson's paintings trace in subtly sensuous detail, the stages of a woman's life as she searches for herself and her destiny through the ultimate sexual connection- union with the cosmos. Her guide is a rainbow, bridge between earth and sky. From mountain to desert, pasture to battle zone, busy city street to the luminous emptiness of space, we share her magical quest for the truth that lies beyond the rainbow's end. A powerfully written text links and complements the illustrations.

Lisa Tuttle wrote the text of Angela's Rainbow specifically to accompany a series of paintings by the artist Michael Johnson.

This is another entry in to my Paper Tiger collection - this time a lesser know title from the hands of Michael Johnson and (depending on the listing being credited or uncredited) words of Lisa Tuttle.

The book consists of series of pieces which chart the journey of spiritual discovery of a young woman through the interpretations of a rainbow she sees.

To me this is one of the more experimental books that Paper Tiger explored - considering the publishers journey from record cover art cataloguer (who remembers vinyl) to the champion of artists and their portfolios to reinterpretations of classic myths and legends.

Along the way the group published works from some of the biggest and most influential names and yet it is in the lesser know titles that some of the most interesting pieces can be found. Another great addition to my collection.
