Ok, so Nathan is up to it again, unlike his newer books, Death Metal is not as dark and twisted but that does not mean it is not dark and twisted. I love the beginning of the mayhem where Bekka first glimpses the shadows. That had me hooked. The story is fast and the heavy metal band was a nice twist from the normal paranormal genre. Would you like the book? Do you like vampires, evil and paranormal, well then yes, you will love this. Do you like a bit of romance on the side? Well then yes you will love this. If you do not like crude language, things that go bump in the night and blood guts and gore, then no, you will not like this. I give it drumbeat full of 4 *!

Meet Bekka, Brian, David, Derek and Will. The Bloodtones. From the first page of the book you're taken straight into there lives as musicians and thrown almost right into the action of the book.
There's not a dull moment in the entire book between the characters themselves and the issues they all had to deal with. The characters felt real to me and the book its self was very well written.
I honestly, can't wait till the sequel to this book is out, I was left wanting more of the story I couldn't stop reading it and was sad when I realized I had read the last page!

This was honestly pretty middle of the road as far as urban fantasy is concerned, but I've DNFed like ten books in the past several days after the first chapter or so and something kept me reading this one till the end so it can't be that bad. I liked the general concept and I'm always a sucker for urban fantasy books that feature characters who are in a band. There was a lot going on here - vampires, werewolves, demons, magic - but I think it all more or less came together by the end. My main problem was that I couldn't keep most of the characters straight and kept forgetting who was who. I mean obviously Becca is The Girl™ [which like, eyeroll, but not necessarily surprising] and for some reason I could always remember that Will was the vampire, but I kept mixing up the werewolf, the magician, and the 'normal guy'. Still, there was good pacing and it was overall a nice quick read. Hopefully helped me get out of my slump!

I loved this book! It was so nice to read something a little different than the uber-romantic paranormal fare that I usually read. The characters in this book are very well developed, and likable. The story progressed smoothly. The ending was perfect too. I was really impressed. I'm anxiously awaiting the second installment. Great job!

I received this book from Nathan in exchange for an honest review and just want to say," Thank you so much!!"

Bloodtones, an up and coming heavy metal band with dark, haunting lyrics, smokin hot members- a couple who just happen to be of the other-world variety, and a following that just keeps getting bigger, are on their way to where they've always wanted to be. During a slammin concert, Bekka- the lead singer and spirit of the band, catches a few things she never thought possible during a wild crowd surf that inevitably changes everything for her and her band mates.

Crazy things begin to happen not long after that fateful night, leaving Bekka and her fellow band mates constantly having to look all around them as their fan following turns in to a crazed following, with people of all ages, races and power try to take back that which has found a new home inside Bloodtones' beautiful, soft spoken and kindhearted vocalist.

As the emotions run high and danger threatens the five friends at every turn, decisions have to be made that could change them all forever.

Having a Vampire and Therion ( were-wolf ) in the band has never been a problem until now, and with all the extra attention on their fast rising fame, Will and David find themselves cornered by the Council- the governing law of the Mytho's communtiy- and warned that the three humans in the group are now a liability, making Rogues take closer notice. Which is never a good thing.

Can the bonds that bind the group as a band, and more importantly as friends, hold strong against the ever increasing threat against them all?

I REALLY enjoyed this novel. With every chapter the emotions run deeper, the bonds get stronger and the fear is more present. The relationship that builds between Brian- the now only complete human- and the possessed Bekka, we feel and see the struggle he goes through as he is the only one not strong enough to protect his love. Anger grows, tempers fly, and the tension between the five as the time draws near to the final battle is so thick you can feel it through the pages.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for something new, something not filled with so much romance and filled more with the true emotions and struggles the characters go through. It was a nice change to my usual choice, and I once again have to thank Mr. Squires for this fabulous book!!

I was given this book in return for an honest review. The Bloodtones are a rock band consisting of a motley crue of members. A sorcerer(Derek), a vampire(David), a werewolf(Will) and two humans(Brian and Bekka). At a gig Bekka sees some colored light kind of things floating up by the ceiling and they dive bomb, and enter her. That is where the adventure begins. Wierd things start to happen, lights and equipment blowing up, bottles exploding and very odd people attacking. After sharing with her band mates what she experienced, they kind of think she's a little bit off. After witnessing for themselves some of the crazy things that are happening, they begin to look for answers. They check with Derek's sorcerer gandpa and psychic aunt and find that the entities that are now residing in Bekka cannot be removed without killing her, they are part of her now and may save her life to protect themselves. The entities are part of a collective, and the collective wants them back, by any means necessary. They have to keep her safe while figuring out how to get rid of the ones chasing them. During all of this a romance developes, and they will discover some secrets about each other. You will see how close they are as a band, and as friends, can they stick together through it all to save their friend? Can her supernatural friends come up with a way to save her? Can they get past things going on in their own lives? This book was fantastic, original, action packed and just plain AWESOME!! Nathan never fails to deliver. I have never read anything like it and I can't wait for more, I always say that about his books, but they really are that good. Gritty, sometimes gorey, but always interesting. He's not pulling punches or holding back, you can tell he puts everything he has into his books. If you haven't read Nathan Squires, you are really and truly missing out. WaAr

I absolutely LOVED this story!! Death Metal is full of friendship, Paranormal characters, and a heavy metal band who find themselves getting into more than their music. Its a great story and one that recommend to all genres! My favorite parts of the book, were the poems in it and the songs that Becca would be singing! The last poem and the song at the end of the book was my absolute faves! I want to share them here!
HIDDEN
Tear out your eyes.
Cut off your hands.
Believe my lies.
Accept my demands.
You'll never find me!
I'm hidden!

You're blindness is your only strength!
Never look beneath the surface!

(Beneath the surface!)

Break all ties.
Sever all bands.
Hear my cries.
Obey my commands.
You'll never find me!
I'm hidden!

Beneath the surface!
Never look beneath the surface!

(You're blindness is your only strength!)

The song:
"IT'S IN THE NATURE OF THE BEAST TO RUN!"

"WHAT IF WE COULD RUN AWAY,
JUST YOU, ME AND THE BEAST?
WE'D TAKE TO THE STREETS ONE NIGHT,
AND HEAD FOREVER EAST!"

"THE HILLS WOULD BARELY SLOW US!
THE MOUNTAINS: NOT A CHANCE!
JUST YOU, ME AND THE BEAST, YOU, SEE,
ON OUR ROAD TRIP ROMANCE!"

"WHAT LINGERS ON THE INSIDE,
WILL CONSUME US IN THE END,
BUT WE COULD BE AWAY FROM HERE,
WHEN ALL OF THAT BEGINS!
IT WILL WREN ME FROM THE INSIDE,
UNTIL THERE'S NOTHING LEFT!
THE COME FOR YOU, I KNOW IT'S TRUE!
AND STEAL YOUR FINAL BREATH!"

"BUT WE CAN CHANCE THE FREEDOM,
THAT WE KNOW WE'LL NEVER CATCH!
RUNNING FROM WHAT WE KNOW WILL COME,
TO MAKE OUR MOMENT LAST!"

"IT'S IN THE NATURE OF THE BEAST TO RUN!"

"AND WE'LL KEEP MOVING FOWARD,
UNTIL THAT EVENTFUL FEAST!
PEDAL-TO-THE-METAL; HAND-IN-HAND!
JUST YOU, ME AND THE BEAST!"
Thank you so much Nathan Squiers for such an AWESOME book!!!

I want to start by saying how much I loved this book! I am a fan of metal music and mythology, and Death Metal has both in spades! The characters are well developed and their reactions both make sense and keep with the characters’ personalities. Squiers has a wonderful voice and I was hooked from the first chapter. Death Metal has a fresh take on mythology, all of which is explained, not leaving the reader with distracting questions. There is action throughout the book and no dull moments in between. I was very easily drawn into this novel. With compelling characters and a unique conflict, the Bloodtones have a lot that they must deal with and overcome, providing a captivating story.
My favorite character was Bekka, and I loved her evolving relationship with Brian. The closeness of the band in general was very real. During rough times, they all found out how much they meant to one another and worked together to do what needed to be done. The dialogue flowed easily and was entertaining as well as giving insight to each character’s mind. A favorite part of mine was the song lyrics that were included. I felt like I could hear the sound of the band and see little Bekka onstage screaming her heart out. I could continue raving about this awesome book, but it would be hard without giving spoilers. I will say, if you enjoy paranormal fiction, you will enjoy this book. With all the paranormal books flooding the market, it was a refreshing change to see the same creatures retold in a new way. I very much enjoyed this book and will be avidly waiting for future work from Nathan Squiers!

I received this book from the author to give an honest review.

Nathan has once again wrote an amazing story. This is the first I have ever read about a rock band that deals with the paranormal and I truly enjoyed it.

The rock band Bloodtones is not your average band. There is a werewolf named David, a vampire named Will, a sorcerer named Derek and two humans Bekka and Brian. What a very unique set of friends and band mates who are coming up in the death metal scene. With Curtain Call you not only get the story but some wickedly disturbing poems as well.

The way Nathan describes David's change into a werewolf and the way he described the people who changed after the evil were inside of them, was terrific. A lot of detail was written in and it had me cringing!

Bekka (which I love the spelling of the name) while performing gets a glimpse of shadows from the other side. Which starts off the adventure of Bekka's friends not only stopping at nothing to protect her but also helping her find a way to get rid of them.

The characters were very likable and I found myself loving the sarcastic talk between them all. One part in the book that had me laughing was on page 162 when Will was being sarcastic to Brian.

"Will shook his head, "You're going to take her word on that just cuz you two are bumping nasties now?" That is one term I have not heard in years.

Curtain call is very fast paced, with great twists that will make you keep reading.
If you like the paranormal, evil, romance, friendship, ass-kicking then this is the book for you.

"Curtain call: A Death Metal Novel" by Nathan Squiers is a truly inspired mad rush of a novel. It took me a while to settle into this book which is slightly different from the other work of the author, much of which I have only read recently.
This book contains very strong language but the use of it is necessary, authentic and appropriate in a novel about a death metal band. I hope you are not offended by it because the core of the story is extremely enjoyable. During a concert lead singer Bekka has a weird vision that others first attribute to drugs but suspicion of an energy or a demon possession starts here and pushes the plot along. Woven into the narrative are amazing song lyrics. I am not usually a fan of poetry and rhyme, especially in the middle of a supernatural novel, but these are not only very good, they fit in the context and the story very nicely; they should secure Squiers a professional side line in the music business.
The band already has a therion and a vampire with them, and with Bekka's strange changes the band is now not only turning into a supernatural bunch, on tour and recording, they now deal with a new series of new challenges.
Less gory and dark than the author's previous work this also contains a love story. If you come to this book from the Crimson Shadow series, be warned, it is different, but it is just as enjoyable and shows that Squiers can stretch his versatility not just within the world of Xander but also in a completely different setting. Costume drama next? A great read.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

This story will have you banging your head to a beat of paranormal heavy metal like you are a possessed human! The Author has once again opened the doors to the underworld and shown us just how talented he and his characters are. You won't be just a groupie of the Bloodtones, you are actually one of the band! But when you mix humans, a vampire, a Werewolf and a Magic Man all together on the same stage, anything can happen!

With a new type of entity not seen before, Bekka lead singer in the group, gets more than she bargained for when she decided to stage dive into the crowd. Now it is up to her band and friends to help her find out what is going on and how to stop it. It is a race to unravel the mystery locked inside her and one that creation itself is trying to open before she does. Great battle scenes, rocking concerts, and a beat up van will transport you into a world of Heavy Metal Music, Paranormal mystery and friendship that will last longer then the last chord played.

This will be a must read for Metal and Underworld enthusiasts of any age! Rock on Nathan!

Loved this awesome read! It has twists that only Nathan Squiers could bring to the table. This is the first book I have read that revolves around the paranormal and heavy metal-double win for me. The Bloodtones are far from your normal heavy metal band and find themselves with more issues than trying to score their next gig. I loved each one of the five band members, they are each unique and bring their own twist to the story and the band. Not only do they struggle with trying to become famous, they have the weight of keeping the band together and alive. Danger seems to lurk around their every move and seems to be far from their number on fan. This book definitely rocks the paranormal guidelines, which made it much more interesting than the same ole paranormal stuff out there. I recommend this book for every paranormal lover. Be warned: you will want to throw your point and pinky fingers in the air and bang your head!

I have officially decided that I want to be Bekka, even if she is possessed, we all have issues. That said, what I loved most about this story is that it took me away into another place, and I wanted to actually sit down and talk with each of these characters. It takes a special talent to write basically five lead characters and carry out their own unique personalities throughout the entire novel. I grew to love each member of the band, and loved how they all played an integral part to the story. the story has a great plot that is interesting and exiting and had me standing up as I read the last few pages as well as some great sub plots and a sweet love story. If you like rock and roll, an awesome story and great characters, get this book.

I was gifted a copy of this book by the author. I have to admit seeing the poems in the beginning made me think I was getting into something weird, however Nathan did an amazing job! Great story about a musical band of the supernatural. Not as dark as some of his other works, but still an amazing read!

I consumed Curtain Call in two frenetic sittings. The novel, bejewelled with poetry, was both easy to read and utterly engaging. The characters felt real and the dialogue superb. I believe Nathan Squiers could become one of my favourite fantasy writers, a master of the genre who offers humour and violence in harmonic balance.

I tried to finish this...was unsuccessful. I don't understand why there are such rave reviews both here and on Amazon... I was bored. Couldn't bring myself to care about the characters (and thus became confused who was who and what... Glad I didn't pay for this. Thank you, Kindle Prime access!!!
