This book does an excellent job of detailing the role of codes and ciphers in military and business areas. The focus is on WW I and WW II with lots of examples from other times as well as how translation of older languages is similar to code and cipher work. This book is dated (1962) and so modern advancements are not covered. It actually makes reading easier as all the examples and discussions are of doing the work by hand.
