The first real chess book I ever went through cover to cover. The first unreal book was Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess. :-)

The best thing here is the games: just about all of them quite intriguing (and many I'd never seen before). The annotations are alright too. The only debit is when the authors insist on editorializing...a trend which reaches its nadir right at the beginning (with a ridiculous hagiography about Steinitz).
