Young "Ike", The Exciting Story of Dwight D. Eisenhower, The Farm Boy Who Became Alden HatchA Closely Knit Family of Six Boys. Young Ike grew up on a modest farm in Kansas in a big, active family where all six brothers did farm work and helped out in their father's creamery. They liked to fish, play baseball and football - and dare each other into all kinds of adventures. Once Ike and Edgar took a wild ride during a flood in a boat without oars. When the six brothers - all with strong opinions - got into fistfights, their mother refused to interfere. She believed her sons should learn to make their own decisions.Dwight D. Eisenhower was to make many decisions that would help shape the world events. Graduated from West Point in 1915, he rose through the ranks to become the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in World War II. In 1953, he was elected President of the United States.
Written at a kid's reading level but that was fine because it was a nice light read to educate myself a bit about this president. It wasn't that "Exciting" as the title says but it was a nice retelling of stories. Sort of made me feel like I was sitting in the room with the old guy drinking coffee and hearing his family (or him) talk about the hyjinks that he was involved in during his younger days.
